I loved The Stones in the 60's, at first it was The Beatles, then when I heard The Stones I never looked back, their early albums are fantastic, although they were doing covers, Otis Redding, Motown (Marvin Gaye, etc) even Sam cooke, their covers were great, Out Of Our Heads was the album that really got me, then I discovered the earlier albums that had all these blues greats (The Rolling Stones Now, 12x5, & their first album) the only problem is that asshole Allen Klein owns the rights to all these albums, but what can you do? the 60/70's stones are my favorites, but I'm just doing a poll of the so called London Years.
Guests allowed, & more then 1 option to choose.

pre BB Out of our Heads is way in front of the rest...

although as time goes by i realise more and more that their first Lp maybe their the greatest - that opening riff of Route 66 is every bit a jaw dropping intro to a record as Rocks Off itself and the rythymic/sonic stew of Mona still sounds futuristic

btw does th e US OOOH have the same tarck listing as the UK?? - i know December's Children are different - we had the UK listings down here

When I grew up in the 60's, it was my Mother who probably heard The Stones more then me, she died in 1980, I played The Stones all the time, that's something about having a special Mother, she knew about about Mick, Keith & Brian, & about Charlie & Bill, & I had a Sister who died in 1993, her fav. Stone was Charlie, that was her fav. stone, even though she was a housewife & had 4 children, that's saying something about how a influence the bad boys of Rock 'N' Roll had a influence on a son who loved The Rolling Stones.

i think some of their early songs are pretty silly and make no sense what so ever to me and i find myself ff'ing thru some of them...there are a couple off of flowers and between the buttons for instance.  i guess people call them fillers.

i actually like the satanic majesties request cd....she's a rainbow is superb tune.

No.  It doesn't.  Mona is on Now! in the states.

As per your assessment of LP #1 I could not agree more, although in the states the opener is the equally apocalyptic Not Fade Away, THEN Route 66, then I Just Want to Make Love to You.  It is entirely breathtaking.  In barely six minutes the band redefines how hard you can rock and roll.

When the Stones toured in '69, in Gimme Shelter tour film, I was Keith Richards for about 3 years in real life, my Friend ^ me dressed up like Keith for years, we were so influenced by the movie, that there were lineups for the movie on Young St. In Toronto for 4 years (And I'm not kidding) my friend today is 54, he's been sober since '84 (He's a alcoholic since he got sober in '84) & today we joke about those days, was it him who acted like Mick on Stage or me?????

it's part of being young again, To act like Jagger on stage like Gimme Shelter, it's fantastic, to mince & prance across the stage like Bette Davis on acid is fantastic!!! I 'm not gay but I love Jagger's performance, he's fantastic!!! as to the guy who Pete Townsend kicked of the stage at Woodstock, Abbie what ever his name is, called Jagger his MYRA Berckingridge, cause Jagger wouldn't support his chicago 11 trial in money, but abbey turned out to be a very alright person when the people said No! to him, he was a downright asshole! I don't know or care? whatever happened to him, but he belongs in the rock 'n' roll history, as a person of those times, I'M sure Townsend has memories of this, maybe he'll share them at his next A.A. Meeting, but those were the days.

The Stones in the 60's are my favorite Stones! Ha, I mean those are my favorite years and I love all the albums during that time period. I love the mid 60's Aftermath, Between The Buttons, etc, but those first albums---the covers and blusey songs....just brilliant. I started playing the first album through the next few last weekend. So explosive! And the live boots are even better---there's no holding back! I STILL say the best thing I ever heard was the band live, on tape, going from the mesmerizing Diddley beat of "Mona" to the BEST version ever of "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love".

Those times will never be repeated. You just had to BE there....Smiley

I just happen to have an original mono version of 12x5 in my collection.  I bought it at a used record store in Boulder, Colorado in 1981 when we drove there from Nebraska to see The Who play at Folsom Field.  The owner of the store said it came from the collection of a girl who had died.  Let's raise a toast to that girl, ladies and gentlemen.  Come on, who's with me?

Let's drink to the Rolling Stones and the dead girl!
