England is a very sophisticated country with high standards, picturesque countryside, and the marvelous waterfront cities of Liverpool & London. Puntuality is a must, even the trains and busses are on schedule to the minute, the streets are clean, people are polite, and the best Rock & Roll music has originated there. The architecture is detailed and intricate, the gardens are impeccably maintained, history is rich and tradition is honored. The food is tasty and pubs are filled with interesting, sexy people!! If anyone has not been there, I say this: YOU GOTTA GO!!

Most of the so-called "great things" about England are relics from yesteryear. Real ale, fish and chips, football, pubs etc.

Too many pubs don't sell real-ale, there aren't many British-owned chip shops anymore (at least, not where I live), we can't play football and too many of our 'proper' pubs are closing - being turned into trendy bars or flats.

The merry old England that many foreigners have in there head is, well, in their head. It doesn't exist anymore.

Oh, and Adrian. Our history is rich and glorious, but kids are not allowed to learn about it in school anymore.

Well it was a loaded question, MM!

I personally, am English through and through and if were to ever have children, they'd be bought up in a very English environment.

We do live in a multi-cultural environment and whilst many have bought worthwhile qualities to this little island, I feel strongly that it’s about time serious restrictions were bought in. By that, I mean, serious, serious, vetting for suitability. IE, job and language skills etc.

I will never bow to any "new Europe" ethos.

I gotta stop coming into these discussions so late, sadly I do not have the time.

My two pennorth....

I fear for the future of our great country....most of the people I work with don't give a toss and thats not the way I was bought up, the majority of brit youths want to get rich quick or die trying somebody said to me recently and may be they are right.

Still we have a great history.

I agree though, most brit women are prudes, real ale is hard to find, fish and chips is unhealthy, the weather is crap, our footballers believe we should win the world cup but never stay the course etc, etc, etc.

I compared London to New York and New Jersey. Did you think MICK was kidding when he said They got rats on the west side, and bedbugs uptown? The population here is larger, more people, more dirt, more trash, more delays, and the bad ass additude to go with it. London is much more civilized, even the drunks on the busses and trains were polite!
