Saturday, September 27, 2008: (London):

Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp has agreed to return to his role of quirky pirate Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth film of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Executives at Disney, the studio behind the Pirates of the Caribbean series based on a popular theme park ride at one of its parks, are delighted that Depp has agreed to play Jack Sparrow once again. The character is said to be modelled on The Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards, reports said.

The three films of the franchise produced by Hollywood filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer have earned a staggering $2.6 billion at the box office.

Depp will also star as the Mad Hatter in a big screen version of Lewis Carrol's Alice in Wonderland and as Tonto, the Indian sidekick of the masked cowboy in a version of the 1950s TV series The Lone Ranger.

Pirates 2 and 3 were not a complete disaster only because of the actors in them, and particularly Johnny Depp. The script and the scriptwriters themselves were so rushed, the story didn't make any sense at all you made a grown man cry

I do hope a 4th Pirates film has at least a descent story to back it up.

Now, I don't really like Depp's fascination with Disney lately but that's a whole other issue Shit!

I'm more anxious for his other films which haven't even started shooting yet, like Sin City 3 or Tim Burton's vampire project. More "Deppish" for sure!

actually, the first pirates movie was fantastic.

two didn't make any sense, so i skipped #3...saw the keith clip on youtube, that is all i need.

Usually remakes like that suck but since the Lone Ranger scripts were so goddam weak and lame to begin with its doubtful that they could ruin The Lone Ranger that badly.
