Swetcharmedlife:

Maybe we are not on the same page on this particular topic directly below.

I am talking about a campaign and going totally public about their business practices, or what they believe to be ethical in terms of the public and music business, hence the whole anti-napster campaign. I am not referring to feuds.

Metallica will go down as The greatest "metal" band I suppose you could say. Sure you can make an arguement of that. What I am saying here is that when a certain status is reached by a band, or artist you simply leave them be and don't down play what they do as compared to you.

The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin (to a point), Elvis Presley, Dylan, Chuck Berry are the only examples I care to mention in this league off hand. You should never compare yourselves to them and their performance, or their legacy. Why? It is not of good taste, especially when they let you open their shows last time out!!!!

Speaking of therapists, Ronnie could need one sure, I certainly bet he has one right now. However, you'll never see that on a documentary of The Stones. It would be kept quiet. The demons, or issues The Stones have encountered and that involved the group and handling success they have miraculously made it through these things themselves. Without therapy. With no therapist. Without group meetings. To note, they have been through a heck of a lot more than Metallica has. Metallica would never begin to make it over the obstacles The Stones have. They can barely manage their own inner security's and minor conflicts as it is.  So lets not go onto all that.

My good man, All I am saying there is something known as Rock n Roll manners. The brothers of Oasis and Lars need some filling in on these things. It just isn't appropriate. You don't downgrade Charlie Watts simply to compare what you play to what he plays in fear of you knowing your band will never make it to that level at that age.

That is what Lars did.

All right Ian. To each their own. I still think it's apples and oranges. Two different bands and more importantly two different eras. Who knows what would have happened if the Stones had started 20 years later?...But hey we always need something to talk about right? Smiley

Yessir, and I do really agree with you in that it is really Apples and Goats ..er, oranges as far as what their music is, and how their careers have went. It was more over I just don't think Lars should of went there is all. Like you said though, at least it gave us something to chatter about.

I read this article and the Rolling Stone one. It was Hetfield that mentioned Charlie and I didnt think it was a shot at all.Hell Charlie would be the first to admit he doesnt smash about wildly like Lars. FFS he doent have to!

They singlehandedly destroyed Napster.

Fuck him.  He was just jealous that nobody will buy their shit, and I do mean shit.

"Nobody... ?"  They are one of the top selling bands of all time with their 1991 eponymous release selling around 20 million units.

I don't get upset when people dis the Stones....just sometimes a very minor irritant, not that Lars did.....but even if he did ...it's just water off a ducks back. I don't even think the Stones take THEMSELVES all that serioulsy....it's only just rock n roll......they just want alot of money for it thats all.  Grin

Considering how Keith slags other bands fairly openly we should expect some backlash. But this isnt a slight to Charlie the way I read both articles.

Metallica are to guitar bands what Britney Spears is to vocalists.... sort of catering to that teenage masturbation market... you know, tone deaf little kids who have yet to develop a sense of when they are getting ripped off and who believe the hype and make these twits rich......

The thing with Metallica is they produce lots of noise, have lots of hair and the guitar solos have lots and lots of notes, played fast, and to a lot of people that constitutes a good band. But they are not even the best in that dumbarse genre that is metal .... and the funny thing is Rick Rubin, who produced Slayer's 'Reign in Blood' about 25 years ago has produced the latest Metallica opus..... I have only heard one track so far. Didn't move me too much.

For seriously good music check out John Cotrane, Lars.... that dude could play lots of notes and still be brilliant.

Anyhow, who cares???????

I agree for the most part. What struck me in the interview was that Lars compared his playing to Charlie Watt's in sort of a downgrade or irrelevant way. It wouldn't surprise me that much if they hadn't wanted to open for The Stones so much, in which they did just last tour out. Metallica said it was one thing they always wanted to get the opportunity to do.  I didn't want to go into comparing the two groups. As was said, it is like comparing apples to goats (really... we all know who is far superior anyway).
I seen the comment as "kiddish" and kind of unmannerly added with a few sour grapes so it caught my attention. I really feel Lars could of (and should of) easily stated his case (which would of been fine) in a light without really "naming names" ...especially Charlie Watt's. You know, it is known as having a little class.

Before everyone gets carried away bashing Metallica. Comapring them with the Stones is like comparing Apples and Goats.Huh? Exactly. Totally different bands. I really don't care how big a prick Lars is. I enjoy Metallica's music. Before everyone rewrites history. Have the Stones always been princes among men? Have they always had kind things to say about other bands. Have their business practices been beyond reproach? Give Metallica credit for being willing to open 2 shows for the Stones in their own home town.(and helping sell out both shows).

Btw is there somewhere video or pictures of metallica performingon BBstage?

And btw.. Metallica deserves to be credited.. it is the most known and powerful metal band in the world.. so you can't compare metallica and stones together .. they are totally different bands..

One thing just annoyins me when here is a thread about some band .. like this here.. some people just have to come here to say their crappy opinions like " Metallica sucks ".. " Stones are much better than them "  .. like grow up..  And like Sweetcharmedlife said they both ruled on their on eras.

Nah, this is the best place to slag off a crappy band like tallica. Puke all over me (wait that is BLEED)

I swear I'll behave when I write on the Metallica forum - but that will have to wait  a while...... actually until hell freezes in.
