Paul McCartney concert a 'once in a lifetime' experience

With a little help from a friend, Beatles superfan Patty Trent celebrated her 50th birthday at a concert she undoubtedly will never forget.

The duo travelled all the way from Boise, Idaho, this week to join a sell-out crowd of over 40,000 people at the Paul McCartney show at Mosaic Stadium on Wednesday night.

Born July 30, 1963 (the day The Beatles recorded All My Loving), Trent's passion for the iconic band runs deep.

"It just brings back the memories of my childhood, which are perfect," said Trent, whose older brother introduced her to Beatles music when she was four years old. "So it's not so deep in the sense of a movement or politically, it's more the nostalgia that it makes me feel when I hear it."

Having seen McCartney perform in Seattle last month, she was prepared the show might not start on time. As in the past, Wednesday's concert began about an hour late at 9 p.m. The crowd waited patiently, though, doing the wave before greeting McCartney with a loud roar when he took the stage and opened with the 1964 Beatles hit Eight Days A Week.

Weeks before the rock legend took Regina by storm, Haylee Hyde, 21, was in Edmonton browsing for tickets. One look at those waiting in line to take their seats Wednesday proves the 71-year-old McCartney has multi-generational appeal.

Holding a poster in line Wednesday that read "Today Is My 21 Birthday Please Sign Me," and sporting a black The Beatles tattoo on her right foot, Hyde drove the 6-hours from Edmonton to see McCartney for the second time in less than a year. She and her boyfriend, Katlen, showed up before 5 p.m. to be near the front of the line.

Hyde said music today does not come close to the poetry former Beatles McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr wrote.

"Throughout high school, that's all I did. I didn't hang out with friends - I stayed home and listened to The Beatles," explained Hyde, who dropped her vacation plans when she learned McCartney would be completing his North American tour in Regina. "They were kind of my rock. They have a song for every mood."

Rob Robertson, also from Edmonton, has seen McCartney before, too. He flew in to the Queen City anyway, eager to listen to one of his favourite singers again.

Robertson is something of a travelling concert-goer, having visited Vancouver, Toronto, Lloydminster and now Regina, on top of countless other cities. He said he has seen Led Zeppelin and David Bowie each four times, and Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones each five times.

"I see all of the shows wherever I can," he explained. "Love my music, love rock and roll. I've seen over 300 shows. I'm 58 years old. I've seen them all. You only live once."

Gearing up for the anticipated three-hour performance, Tom Pastuch and his sister Gerri Mills joined the queue that stretched down 9th Avenue more than two hours before the concert began. Many streets around Mosaic Stadium were closed as far as Dewdney Avenue to accommodate the tens of thousands of concert-goers waiting to get into the stadium.

Missing McCartney was not an option for Pastuch, who attended AC/DC, Bon Jovi and The Rolling Stones here as well. Scoring second-row tickets was a small price to pay to experience a night with a living legend, he added.

"It's phenomenal to get these bands coming to the city, and it helps acknowledge us in Canada," the Reginan said while waiting in line. "I'm really looking forward to this. He'll never come here again. This is once in a lifetime."

Joey, we may have to accept the fact that jb's gone for good.

I would suggest taking this with the proverbial grain of salt, but since it's coming from a traditional media outlet, we'll pass this rumor along.

An article from Nice-Matin, a French news outlet, mentions these three rumors:

■U2's new album will be out before the end of the year.
■U2's tour will start in March 2014. The first show in France will be at Paris Bercy and the next will be at the new Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice for the second show. The article might be suggesting that these are the first shows of the whole tour, but that's not clear.
■Adam Clayton will be married on September 15th (of this year).
The most questionable part of the report is about the two shows in France. Bercy is an indoor arena, while Allianz Riviera is a new outdoor stadium. It seems odd to think that U2 would play both types of venues, especially when previous reports have said the next tour will be only in arenas, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility.

The article seems to be quoting and paraphrasing things that Bono has said to people in Nice during his daily travels, so that -- sorry, Bono -- is another reason to be suspicious. Smiley

UPDATE: The online translations of this article were less than ideal, and based on trusted feedback, the bullet items above have been edited. Specifically, it appears that the March 2014 reference is to the start of the tour, not to when the new album might be out. We also edited the second bullet item about whether the French shows would be the start of the whole tour.

To repeat, the article attributes all of this to things Bono has said randomly to someone in Eze (such as a neighbor) ... so the advice to consider it all rumor is unchanged.

" August 19, 2013 -- San Francisco Chronicle

Paul McCartney sets sights on Candlestick's last bow

Sir Paul McCartney has tossed up the possibility of headlining one last concert at Candlestick Park - where The Beatles played their final gig for a paying crowd in 1966 - before the stadium's date with the wrecking ball.

No one was more stunned than Mayor Ed Lee when McCartney floated the idea as he was about to take the stage at his recent Outside Lands festival appearance.

"And it was him who made the suggestion," Lee said. "Believe me, it wasn't something I, or anyone else, was expecting."

It all began when Lee - with about a half hour to kill - decided to check out how things were going at the festival in Golden Gate Park the evening of Aug. 10.

Lee was talking with Outside Lands promoter Gregg Perloff, who asked if he had a couple of minutes to meet with McCartney before the singer went on.

"Ah, Mayor Lee, what an honor," McCartney said. "I understand you are the first Asian mayor of the city."

"Thank you," Lee replied, "but I'm not sure it's quite as glamorous as being knighted."

Sir Paul put his thumb and forefinger almost together and said, "It's that much more."

The ice properly broken, city salesman Lee launched into the success of Outside Lands, then slid into another upcoming significant event - the end of Candlestick, and how the city was putting together photos and film footage to honor the Beatles' final concert.

"Oh, kind of like Shea Stadium," McCartney said, referring to the old New York ballpark where the Beatles played two of their most famous shows. "That sounds fantastic."

"Then," Lee said, "he looks at me and Phil Ginsburg" - general manager of the Recreation and Park Department - "and says, 'Well, if you are going to tear down the stadium next year, we should think about us doing the last concert there.' "

As Lee's and everyone else's jaw dropped, McCartney added, "You know my agent. Why don't we follow up with him?"

McCartney did this once before - at Shea Stadium, just before it was demolished in 2009. Then he and Billy Joel helped break in Citi Field, the New York Mets' replacement stadium.

If the Stick show does come together, it would be full circle from Aug. 29, 1966, when the Beatles played to a crowd of about 25,000 - well short of the stadium's pre-expansion capacity of 42,000.

Tickets went for $4.50 and $6.50, and the Beatles played for about 30 minutes.

When McCartney hit the stage at Outside Lands, an estimated 65,000 were on hand - at $75 to $105 a head. Over the three-day festival, the Recreation and Park Department netted $2.2 million.

A McCartney farewell show would grab international headlines - but it's only one of the many ideas in the works for turning the Candlestick tear-down into a boon for Rec and Park.

No hard day's write, Paul

National treasure Sir Paul McCartney has turned down £5 million ($7.8 million) to write his autobiography on the grounds that he doesn't have the time and that enough has been written about him already.

What a shame: a Beatles-eye view of the Swinging Sixties would be an entertaining one indeed.

Still his decision does confirm what we always knew - that Sir Paul always wanted to be a singer rather than a paperback writer.  "

Joey, why is jb breathing a sigh of relief?

More rumors to share, this one coming from the Italian fan site U2place, which is reporting that a source at Universal Music Italy says there won't be a U2 album this year. The original article is in Italian, but the Google translate into English is pretty clear:

According to our source inside the record company Universal Italy the new U2 album definitely will not come out this year. This would seem to confirm another rumor mentioned in the news yesterday that suggests the release in March 2014.

The "news yesterday" they're referring to is the article in a French newspaper that, in some translations, had Bono telling people around Eze, France, that the album would be released next March. Other translations disagreed with that wording.

We'll ask around our contacts and see if we can learn anything to add to this.

"  joey  ..... did macca have anything to do with ' being for the benefit of mr. kite ? "

*************** " SIGH !!!!! "  ****************

Some Guy  ........ as you well know  ....... it is ALL in the ' Bible '  .

http://www.beatlesbible.com/songs/being-for-the-benefit-of-mr-kite/

" On 31 January 1967, while The Beatles were in Sevenoaks, Kent, making a promotional film for Strawberry Fields Forever, John Lennon wandered in to an antique shop close to their hotel. There he bought a framed Victorian circus poster from 1843.

The poster announced Pablo Fanque's Circus Royal, coming to Town Meadows in Rochdale. It grandly announced that the circus would be for the benefit of Mr Kite, and would feature "Mr J Henderson the celebrated somerset thrower" and Zanthus the horse.

Mr Kite was William Kite, a performer and the son of circus owner James Kite. In 1810 he had founded Kite's Pavilion Circus and later moved to Wells' Circus. It is thought that he worked in Pablo Fanques' fair between 1843 and 1845. Fanque, pictured below, was Britain's first black circus owner. He was born William Darby in Norwich in 1796.

Lennon hung the poster in his music room at his home in Weybridge, and began to use it as inspiration for a song. Some of the facts he changed - the circus was coming to Bishopsgate rather than Rochdale; the horse became Henry; the circus became a fair; Mr Kite was 'late of Wells's Circus' rather that of Pablo Fanque (pictured below); and Mr Henderson, rather than Mr Kite, promised to challenge the world.

Minor changes aside, the words of the poster found their way almost unchanged into Lennon's Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite!, which closed the first half of the Sgt Pepper album. Lennon sat at his piano and sang phrases from the poster until he had the song, possibly with help from McCartney.

Lennon was later dismissive of the song, as revealed in a range of interview snippets collated in the Anthology book."

************************************

" I wrote that as a pure poetic job, to write a song sitting there. I had to write because it was time to write. And I had to write it quick because otherwise I wouldn't have been on the album. So I had to knock off a few songs. I knocked off A Day In The Life, or my section of it, and whatever we were talking about, Mr Kite, or something like that. I was very paranoid in those days, I could hardly move.John Lennon, 1970
Lennon Remembers, Jann S Wenner  "

" He also denied there were hidden drug references in the song.  "

********************************************

" The whole song is from a Victorian poster, which I bought in a junk shop. It is so cosmically beautiful. It's a poster for a fair that must have happened in the 1800s. Everything in the song is from that poster, except the horse wasn't called Henry. Now, there were all kinds of stories about Henry the Horse being heroin. I had never seen heroin in that period. No, it's all just from that poster. The song is pure, like a painting, a pure watercolour.John Lennon
All We Are Saying, David Sheff  "

" Paul McCartney added Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite! to the setlist of his Out There tour in 2013. In a July 2013 interview with Rolling Stone he said he had co-written the song with Lennon.

Mr Kite! is such a crazy, oddball song that I thought it would freshen up the set. Plus the fact that I'd never done it. None of us in the Beatles ever did that song [in concert]. And I have great memories of writing it with John. I read, occasionally, people say, 'Oh, John wrote that one.' I say, 'Wait a minute, what was that afternoon I spent with him, then, looking at this poster?' He happened to have a poster in his living room at home. I was out at his house, and we just got this idea, because the poster said 'Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite' – and then we put in, you know, 'there will be a show tonight,' and then it was like, 'of course,' then it had 'Henry the Horse dances the waltz.' You know, whatever. 'The Hendersons, Pablo Fanques, somersets...' We said, 'What was 'somersets'? It must have been an old-fashioned way of saying somersaults.' The song just wrote itself. So, yeah, I was happy to kind of reclaim it as partially mine.Paul McCartney

Joey, why is jb nonplussed?

This is about as official a statement as we're likely to get on U2's album plans. In a pre-recorded interview that aired this morning on Ireland's Newstalk FM, Bono told host Pat Kenny that the band has no "commitment to any release schedule" and said he'd "like to think that next year there'll be a U2 release."

The interview was recorded over the weekend (Friday or Saturday, in all likelihood) while Bono was still in Ghana. (The band was in Copenhagen on Sunday.) It aired this morning on the first day of Kenny's new show. The focus of the conversation was the death of Irish poet Seamus Heaney and Bono's recent trip to Africa, but it ended with this exchange about U2's plans:

Kenny: The band, what are you up to at the moment? Back in studio, or finished or ... what?

Bono: The band? Uhm, we're nearly there, I think -- though this can change. There's no sense from the band of any commitment to any release schedule, any ... to anything. They just want to be really -- make some great music.

But I think we're nearly there, and once we're there we'll know it. I'd like to think that next year, there'll be a U2 release.

I mean, it sounds like we've been flaffing around, but actually what we've -- what's just happened is that we just got lost in the music and went right back to why we wanted to be in a band in the first place -- listen to the music of the mid-70s, punk rock, electronica -- we're really sort of beginning again.

I know we do this periodically, but you have to. And so ... it's very different, very fresh sound, and some beautiful songs ... big hooks ... and yeah, you'll be sick of us. I hope!

You can hear it for yourself on the Newstalk website. This part of the conversation begins at the 20:20 mark.

This is the third report in the past 10 days saying there won't be a U2 album in 2013. Steve Lillywhite recently said that to a fan in Dublin, and Universal Music Italy also told the same to U2place.com. (Also see our latest Achtoon Baby for an explanation of "getting lost" in the music.)

Not only is it looking like U2's next album won't be out until 2014, but it also sounds like the band may have decided to go back into the studio to work on (more) new material.

If you follow us on Facebook, you may have noticed us reshare a post from Dublin fan Dave Griffith on Sunday, who wrote about his encounter near U2's studio with Edge's guitar tech, Dallas Schoo. Dallas told Dave that the album is due next year, but also talked about Edge working on completely new songs:

They're still writing stuff and Edge keeps coming up with new stuff. I'm actually off to him now!!

Larry Mullen also made similar comments last week at Adam's wedding. As the Independent reported a couple days ago, Larry said the band is back to working in the studio:

"We're working in the studio so we're dropping in for lunch and then we'll probably go back to work."

Asked if U2's bass player would be working on his wedding day, Larry joked: "I hope so - we've an album to finish."

By all accounts, U2 had actually finished recording earlier this year -- as much as a U2 album is ever finished -- and the mixing wrapped up at Electric Lady Studios in early June. In July, Gavin Friday spoke to the Herald in words that indicated the album was finished:

I've heard the new album ... It's definitely their most exciting release since Achtung Baby.

When Bono spoke with Newstalk FM recently, he said U2 is "nearly there" with the album, but didn't specifically say they were working on more new material in the studio. But it sounds like that may be the case. And it sounds similar to the build up before No Line On The Horizon, when U2 was reportedly finished recording the album, then decided to go back into the studio for some last-minute work.

Joey, if jb don't like this one, fuck him.

Joey, why is jb butt hurt?

"I am a bit out of touch with the rest of the world at the moment, I am down in a big black hole with U2, as we are busy working on our next album. We don't know yet when it will come out. It could be finished within the next weeks, maybe at the end of the year. We are just lost in it, and we surely don't wanna wake up out of this until the dream is done".

On the Scene at Paul McCartney's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' concert: Something old, something 'New'

When Paul McCartney and his Beatles bandmates performed an unannounced concert on a London rooftop in 1969 for their Let It Be film, the police eventually came in and shut it down. But McCartney and Jimmy Kimmel had the cops' blessing Monday night in Los Angeles, as they took to the roof of the El Capitan Theatre, promising a free show from the one-and-only Sir Paul for the gathered masses.

Monday's Jimmy Kimmel Live! TV audience only caught two of those songs. After that, as McCartney told us when he hit the stage, "The rest is just for you." Here's what you missed if you weren't one of the 10,000 people lining Hollywood Boulevard:

Even though McCartney has a new album to promote - aptly titled New - he played only three songs from his latest during the Jimmy Kimmel Live! concert, favoring Beatles and Wings hits instead for the dedicated crowd (some fans waited more than 10 hours to be in the front row). "You all right back there in Santa Monica?" he cracked to the fans who appeared to be cities away.

Among those Beatles favorites was "Birthday" (the couple next to me freaked out because it was the husband's actual birthday; not a bad gift), and McCartney kicked the night off with "Magical Mystery Tour," which matched the psychedelic upright piano he played throughout the set. "Lady Madonna," "Back in the U.S.S.R.," and "Day Tripper" were also on the list, along with the tailor-made sing-along "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" (we swear we spotted Game of Thrones' Rose Leslie, a.k.a. Ygritte, shooting a cell phone video during this one).

Speaking of sing-alongs, McCartney was able to turn even a brand-new song into a communal experience, telling the crowd before performing "Everybody Out There," "There's a little bit that goes 'whoa-oh-oh-oh.' You might pick it up, you might not. If you do, good on you." He was pretty impressed with our performance, but he gave us a refresher afterward, just in case the New track becomes a Beatles-level hit: "That's your bit, for future reference."

The music icon ended in, well, iconic fashion, bringing out the massive one-two punch of "Let It Be" and "Hey Jude." And let us say: Nothing unites a crowd of 10,000 quicker than singing the na-na-na's of "Jude" on a warm L.A. night.

"See you next time," McCartney said after the hour-long set, blowing kisses to the crowd. We hope it won't be another 40-plus years until he hits his next rooftop  . "

Paul McCartney: "The Song's Your Psychiatrist"

How death, "demons" and a paternity suit stoked the former Beatle's muse, as revealed in exclusive MOJO interview.

Paul McCartney has talked about the troubled times from which he plucked some of his most affecting songs.

The death from cancer of the singer's mother, the Japanese drug bust of 1980 and the death of Ringo Starr's first wife, Maureen: all impacted on McCartney far more than his outwardly breezy demeanour tends to project, and he sheds fascinating light on that area in an interview in MOJO magazine on the eve of the release of his latest solo album, New.

"I think it's good when you're in a dark period, the good is [the song's] your psychiatrist, it's your therapy," McCartney tells MOJO's Pat Gilbert. "Going away when you're really upset about something and putting it in your song you come out of that cupboard, toilet or basement and go, 'I really feel better.' You've actually exorcised the demon."

McCartney cites the Flaming Pie album's Little Willow written after the 1994 death of Maureen Starkey as one of his more cathartic songs. Then there's The Beatles' Yesterday.

"With Yesterday, singing it now, I think without realising it I was singing about my mum," says McCartney. "Because I think now, 'Why she had to go, I don't know, she wouldn't say, I said something wrong'... I think the psychiatrist would have a field day with that one..."

Macca's dark days tend to be brushed off, not least by Macca himself. But the loss of Linda in 1998 thrust him into a highly public mourning, while the drug bust, the paternity suit filed by Bettina Krischbin (the daughter of Hamburg-era girlfriend Erika Hübers) and Lennon's murder came in short order at the turn of the '80s. A rough ride in anyone's estimation.

"I think my [robust] personality got me through it," says McCartney. "It goes back to my family and upbringing in Liverpool, which taught you no matter how sh*ty it is, get on with it and try and have a good time. With that paternity suit, the most difficult thing was my kids, saying to them, 'Look, you're going to go to school today and the kids have probably seen this front page thing about my secret love child, you're just going to have to deal with it. It's not true'..."

Read more about McCartney's coping strategies and songwriterly soul-mining in the latest MOJO magazine, out now.  "

We love you Paul. I will be blasting Back to the Egg through my headphones in your honor tonight.

I like that album. Yes, I do. And I like that dopey late seventies - early eighties production sound, combined with his melodies. When I was purchasing Macca CDs by the mid nineties, some of my friends were buying Nirvana records and made fun of me. But Kurt Cobain killed himself and made the world not only a happier place but inspired a totally kick ass movie directed by Gus Van Sant that made you stare at some guy cooking microwave macaroni.

Mark Ronson turned vegetarian after Paul McCartney sessions

Music producer Mark Ronson has given up eating meat after working with vegetarian superstar Sir Paul McCartney.

The studio wizard was recruited by The Beatles legend to work on his upcoming album "New," and he changed his diet after gorging on vegetarian dishes which were available for free during their studio sessions.

He tells Mojo magazine, "Did the experience (of working with McCartney) change me? Yes, it turned me into a vegetarian! I'm a (late night) studio rat, and if you ordered food at two in the morning it was free if it was veggie. Better than ordering a Nando's. You have more energy, which you can see every day in Paul, he's so driven."

' joey  ...... what is Bibi waiting for ? ..soon iran will be able to accomplish what hitler tried to do in ww2 ..... '

Good Friggin Question Some Guy   !!!!

Good Question !!!! :

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2013/09/30/Three-Conditions-for-an-Israeli-St...

" When Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meets with President Barack Obama today, he will do so against the backdrop of vastly changed circumstances. President Obama's bungling of the Syria crisis has established that the U.S. is no longer a deterrent force against rogue regimes in the region. His overtures to the Iranian regime, including reference to a bogus "fatwa" against nuclear weapons, have shelved any military option.
It is clearer than ever that if there is to be any use of force against Iran, it will have to be undertaken by Israel. Kenneth Pollack, who does not quite dismiss a military option even though he argues in favor of negotiation and containment in his masterful new analysis of the Iranian crisis, considers an Israeli strike to be the worst of all military options, especially as it is far less likely to succeed than a U.S. attack would be.

There are, however, three conditions that, if met, would make an Israeli strike the best of a range of bad options. One is that the Israeli military possesses a previously undisclosed capability to strike Iran, whether through technology or intelligence, that only becomes apparent in the execution of the attack. That has been the case in previous surprise attacks, such as the one that destroyed Syria's nuclear program in 2007.

A second condition is that an Israeli strike must be able to use Iran's own weaknesses against it. Since Israel is not likely to be capable of sustaining a long air or (especially) ground campaign, it would need to strike in such a way that retaliation is not in Iran's interest. That might happen if Israel targets the key political institutions of the regime, creating renewed potential for an uprising by the regime's domestic opponents.

A third condition is that Israel becomes convinced that it has no other choice. As Pollack rightly points out, one of the reasons Israel has not hit the Iranian nuclear program after watching it grow over two decades is the essential difficulty of the task--and managing the aftermath. Yet Israel will take those risks once it is clear that there is no option left to stop a nuclear-armed Iran, which poses a direct threat to its existence.

Paradoxically, then, President Obama's weakness on the world stage has strengthened Netanyahu's hand. The less he can rely on the administration for support, the more his government is free to weigh military action on its own merits. His task, while charting an independent course, is to create the appearance of harmony with the Obama administration. As long as his strategy is successful, Obama will be glad to play along.  "

Joey, what does jb watch at night?

Bono sat down for a short chat Thursday night on The Late Show with David Letterman and the host didn't disappoint anxious U2 fans -- his second question asked Bono for a status report on what U2 is doing at the moment.

Unfortunately for the anxious, Bono pretty much avoided the question. He answered with some of his well-worn comments like "very good is the enemy of great" and "who needs a U2 album? There's loads of them out there" and "we have to make a great U2 album" and so forth. In other words: No news to report.
