I've seen parts of it and it just made the list. Don't know about the other.

"Casino" came out in late 1995. The Stones' song isnt on the soundtrack CD.

At the time of the movie's release, only two Stones versions of the song had been released

1) the studio version from "Let it Bleed" released in 1969

2) a live version from the US Tour in 1989 released in cassette form only on a UK multi artists charity release for the homeless called "Putting Our House In Order" in 1993 (it featured about twelve versions of the song released as EP's across three formats - CD, cassette and vinyl).

So, if its a live version, its this one - although as far as I was aware it was the studio recording (only own the movie on home video, I dont seem to have it on DVD so cant check)

There's a live 1995 Stones version of it from the Paradiso in Amsterdam which was used in the "Stripped" TV special, but it wasnt released officially until it was featured as a bonus track on the "Wild Horses" CD single in spring 1996.

Martin Scorcese did a documentary entitled, "My Voyage to Italy", which is on Netflix in 2 volumes and it is all about his love affaiir with italian films from his childhood, with long clips from all these great great films from early italian cinema.  When you watch it you cannot pull yourself away you get so engaged in the film clips he introduces.  Its really good. I just finished it

It is the live version from the Paradiso in 1995.  I actually went to see Casino in the theatre on a Sunday night, right after the Stripped Television special premiered on MTV.  One of the best versions of Gimme Shelter ever.

Casino rules. Yes, it's Goodfellas take Las Vegas, but who cares. Pesci's character is a fun ride.

You sure? Thats very odd indeed - an unreleased Stones recording being included in a movie.

the film came out in November 1995. the Stones didnt release that version until March 1996 - the TV special for Stripped was first shown in December 1995

Gazza,

I have nothing to prove it, but watch the film and it's definetly the Paradiso version, or one from '95.

Here it is on You Tube go to the 4:16 mark.  It's surely '95.  Mick and Lisa Fischer.

I also think "Sweet Virginia" from the movie is from Stripped.

yep..but "Stripped" had been released a couple of weeks earlier (although oif its that version, obviously it would have been cleared for use on 'Casino' a couple of months previously).

Not doubting your word - just find it somewhat unique that a Stones recording would turn up in a movie some four months before it was actually released.

The film about Andy Warhol's painter friend Basquit or whatever his name is features one of Keith's solo piano recordings from 79 or so.  I've always thought that was the oddest use of a song, since it's a bootleg recording.

It is odd, but it was probably slated to be on the album at one point, given it's inclusion in the television special.  Of course Rip This Joint was in the TV special also.
