Losing in the playoffs is a worse feeling than not making the playoffs at all.  I know.

Can I join the Nation? I have a Steelers hat and shirt, seriously!

I have no problem with that.  I'll have run it by Moonie, just to see if he feels you are ready.

Not sure.  Does he have the requisite poise and moxie to be a member of the Nation?  We may open the books up in 2009, but he needs to make his case nonetheless.

This crazy season could get even crazier. Chargers win coupled with a Ravens win means Chargers host AFC Championship. Tell me who would have bet on that a few weeks ago.

I will be supporting the Stillers this weekend.
Not being in the playoffs for the first time in six years
is a strange, unusual area.
Seeing the opponents left in the AFC, Stillers & Titans will
fight for the Conference Championship.
San Diego Super Frauds are not going anywhere.
Baltimore took care of The Phins, however, Jeff Fisher
is too smart not to get to the next round.
Upward & Onward!

Has a 4 or 5 seed ever hosted the AFC champ game since they put in the system of 12 teams making the playoffs?  I know the Colts were #3 two years back when they hosted the Pats.  Then again I've been alive for about half as many SBs as most of this board so I don't know jack.

Seriously. I mean seriously. The Chargers are a legit team. They were considered a Super Bowl contender at the start of the year. Got off to terrible start. But while Norvell may have the worst skin in the NFL. Dude can coach. He got them farther than anyone thought last year and now has them playing the best ball of any team in the playoffs. If nothing else the 6 points might be worth taking.

You should include '06 also, under Schotzie, for he as well
had a good regular season record with them.
Nevertheless, they are frauds.
Unless it's only the Pats who can whoop 'em in the tournament, given the last two years.
I do like Sproles, Tomlinson is a perennial crybaby.

Post your predictions, in the following format.  This is going to be an awesome weekend of professional football.

Titans 17, Ravens 14 - Ravens deserve to win, but Flacco throws an interception on late drive.

Panthers 28, Cards 10 - Cardinals get blown out.

Eagles 21, Giants 20 - Eagles get good lead in 2nd half and weather a late Giants surge.

Steelers 14, Chargers 7 - Steelers play better, but have trouble scoring until late in 4th quarter due to struggling Roethlisberger.

I know.  I just meant he will struggle against the Chargers this Sunday.  That concussion has put him into George Walker Bush III territory with respect to decision making abilities.

And there I sat, in my spacious den, watching the first college football game I've watched in at least 5 years.  Nominally, the two best college teams there are.  Pretty lame, Milhouse.

The Lions would wax either of them.  If they could stay awake.  That Tebow guy, though.  Holy fucking Christ, he has it all.

moonie, here's where my $$ will be and some gratuitous comment:

Ravens 17 - 14  - Baltimore is the dark horse for the whole Super Bowl shebang imho. Is it just me (or their uniforms) but they look a team apart  from the rest

Panthers 31 - 14  - I didn't expect Arizona to beat the Falcons and despite the fact they did I doubt they will trouble the P.s

Eagles 24 -21    - I could be accused of betting my heart and not my head here as Phil. are my sentimental favourites - punter Sav Rocca is a good ol' boy from Melbourne Victoria - but I'm not. The Eagles look good and the Giants ain't so big... they're just tall, that's all. (See week 14)

Steelers 21 - 14    - Pitts. should manage this without  raising too much of a sweat which is good as  they will  have some work to do next week if it is,indeed, to be Nation time.

i have been a sports fan all my life

i first became aware of and generally understood how NFL (or "gridiron" as it was known) was played since the mid 60's and have had more than a passing interest for over 25 years - we've had the super bowl telecast live here since at least 1983

these days with the internets and Fox sports on TV it's not too hard to keep up if your interested

I love the game -  quintessentially american perhaps - a beautiful combination of  technical precision and brute force - you just have to learn its rhythms

if you like aussie rules and rugby union it's not too hard to appreciate your game

The night before the Division playoffs begin and the NFL thread falls almost to the bottom of PG1... Ouch!......Well wake up. Because here are your sweet charmed locks for this weekend:
Tenn -3(Tenn D will eat Flacco alive. Collins & co wear out Ravens)
Car -9 1/2(Big number to lay. But the slipper doesn't fit anymore AZ)
Phi +4(Tough call. Looks like nasty weather in Jersey. Tough to beat somebody 3 times in a year)
SD +6(PLucky Chargers keep it close. Steel Wheels squeak out a win)
