Alert Board Moderator about this Post!
I'm checking fan communities (not just websites) previous to Rocks Off; Undercover is by far the oldest and is active, Like a Rolling Stone (The Brian Jones message board by Gerry Seda) is older and is active however is only about Brian

Sticky Fingers Journal is older but I?m not sure if it is active, I couldn't find their website niether here http://www.stickyfingersjournal.com/ nor here http://home.att.net/~stones/ Does anybody here know if they are active?

Here's the european mirror of the site (so it says)
http://home.swipnet.se/~w-35264/

doesn't look very active with the last news update of may 2002, but on the messageboard there are some threads of 2008.

it's kinda spooky, with a few zombies around  Blank Frigging Stare

Thanks a lot everyone!

What I want is to know if the e-mail list is active, I see the website is not on-line but probably someone who used to get the e-mails can tell us more.  Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

Undercover is still active?

Are most of the posts on it still on the topic of cheese? Thats why I unsubscribed many years ago. If you posted Stones info no one as much as said thanks, but the same four or five people took up 80% of the digest with the same in-joke that went on for years.

I got the impression SFJ was more or less 'retired' some years ago. Issues came out less frequently and I think Skippy may have been ill for a time. Dont know for sure as I was kicked off it sometime in 1999 or so for daring to question his decision to edit my posts where I had the good netiquette to quote another site (eg this one) as a source for a story so that he could make it look like he was the only person to ever post a bit of Stones news info.

I subscribed to SFJ in 05 when the last tour was firing up.
Unsubbed after a coupla days - nothing new or newsworthy that couldn't be found elsewhere.

And yeah, Undercover is the home of longest running inside joke on the 'net.

Did anyone here subscribe to the alt.rock.n.roll.stones newsgroup?

That place was fun at times, although it really was like an asylum. Whatever happened to the crazed legend that was Mary Manning?

I'm a bit distoibed that you found that so easily. Good to see she's done something with her life.

Her 'stonesgirl'  homepage is still online, although only the guest book seems to be updated. She was really big into Stones tribute bands!

That freak scared me off of alt.rock-n-roll.stones.
Sure I'm not the only one that remembers the gory details.

Plus - Google can find anything.

Nice to see that the meds are finally working, though...

I agree about SFJ too much ego by the owner, in fact I was kicked off too probably for the same reason but later welcome, I unsubscribed two months later, the curious thing is that a lot of times I found news copied and pasted from Rocks Off without any credit or link, I do remember we used to change some commas or grammar to the articles just to be 100% sure they were copied and yes, the people there used to make copy and paste and not giving credits, thanks or links.

My question is because I'm making a space at rocksoff.org about Rocks Off history including awards and distinctions and I want to confirm some facts, one I'm sure is that this is the oldest active message board about the Rolling Stones as Undercover and SFJ are mailing lists and as mentioned above, Gerry's board is about Brian, but that is the real oldest message board about stones related stuff.

So the Rolling Stones places to talk in chronological order (active since they started) are

1.- Undercover 1992 mailing list about the Rolling Stones
2.- LARS 1997 (?) message board about Brian Jones
3.- Rocks Off 1998 message board about The Rolling Stones

Of course there’s a lot of websites that started before but without message board or mailing list, for example IORR is older but its message board "Tell Me" started after us and after Shidoobeeland

Mary Manning is actually responsible for the opening up of SHIDOOBEE. We were on the AOL Stone's message board and chat and about 50 of us had started planning on a week-end in Vegas where Bobby keys was going to hang out with us and play one night.
About two months before the trip, Mary got me and a few others banned from AOL for a year. I had to quickly set something up so that we could all stay in touch and thus SHIDOOBEE ( or SHIDOOOOOOOOOOBEEEEEEEEEE as glencar calls it) was started.

I actually remember that weekend, believe it or not. I didn't even have a computer back then. But I had a friend who did and was just getting into all the Stones on-line stuff and kept telling me about it. He talked me into going to Vegas to see this Stones tribute band.Steel Wheels I think was thier name and they hired Bobby Keys to play with them. With some helpful donations from what I remember. I believe it was St.Patricks day weekend 2001. I still got one of the t-shirts Doug was selling. Best $10 I ever spent.LOL. Good show, great fun. I didn't realize that was the birth of SHIDOOBEE.
