Happy to report that I was at the Liverpool Sound Machine gig Anfield Stadium show on June 1st and it was AMAZING! It was the last show for this venue because they are revitilizing Liverpool and they are building a new stadium. So it was a nostalgic farewell concert for Anfield, and it really was special. Liverpool LOVES PAUL! You can feel the love, Paul is deeply cherished by the Liverpool fans. He's a legend. The police were collecting 'brellies' at the entrance! No umbrellas allowed~ but people were bringing in all sorts of other stuff that the US would have never allowed ~ bottles of liquor and beer & food, no one was checked for guns or knives~ hell at MSG you go thru a metal detector, but in Liverpool it's NO BRELLIES ALLOWED! That still makes me laugh!!
There were 3 acts, all from Liverpool. The Zutons opened and they were cool, they have a female sax player and she was great, they rocked!
The Kaiser Chiefs were next, also very good, they rocked too and the crowd was very familiar with their tunes, most people sang along and knew the lyrics.
Paul started up at 9:10 PM and was introduced as "Sir Paul Mildred McCartney" Mildred?? Thats a girls name isnt it?? OK all I can sday is PAUL can still sing and play and perform, and he gave the caliber of show equal to the Stones on a good day or The Who or Clapton on a great day. PAUL had a great day! He was on top of his game.
Nice 27 SONG SETLIST, the highlights for me are: BABY YOU CAN DRIVE MY CAR, GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE, "This one is for Linda" MY LOVE (he was in tears and so was the audience), LONG & WINDING ROAD, BLACKBIRD was really sweet, first time performed live, a new ballad called "IN LIVERPOOL" he said "I hope you like it" and it was a cutesy little tune about his early years. FOLLOW THE SUN was played with additional encores because Paul said the song is too short, SOMETHING was done in memory of George Harrison, PENNY LANE, BACK IN THE USSR, LET IT BE, HEY JUDE. The encores were fabulous ~ YESTERDAY, Paul on accoustic by himself, and then a medley of A DAY IN LIFE/GIVE PEACE A CHANCE which surprised me since I consider Give Peace A Chance a Lennen song, LADY MADONNA & I SAW HER STANDING THERE. Show was A+ tops, my #1 show of the year.
