My night of Glitter and Doom.
First I would like to say what a great venue the Ohio Theatre is. Perfect place for my first Waits show. Even though I know many do not care for Tom, I highly recommend seeing him. He is an acquired taste though.
Waits is an incredible performer, interacts very well with the audience. The man has a great sense of humor. Although, it is not the same type of life show that many of are accustomed too. Tom was back to a twenty-five song set last night (I belive so, just by going on our recollection of the songs played). Highlights for me included "16 Shells from a Thiry-ought-six" and Tom doing his preaching routine on "Jesus Gonna Be Here". But, the true highlight was when Tom took to the piano for "Innocent When You Dream" and "Lucky Day". I would kill to see him play the piano and sing in a smoke filled bar. The show closed out with "Time". I was stunned, as it took me about thirty seconds to get out of my seat to show my appreciation to Mr. Waits, for an incredible night.
As I said before, this was my first Waits show so maybe I am overreacting somewhat, but this the best show I have seen in years. Or maybe it was becuase I got to spend a weekend with a friend I rarely see anymore (as we are both Waits fans). Or maybe the show was really that damn good.
After the show there was a get together from a Waits fan club at a local bar. Many agreed with me. However, there were a few who had attended other shows on this tour, who were setlist bitching about Tom not mixing up the set.
If any of you are planning to see Tom, you'll love the show.
Anyway I'm awaiting the photo of my "encounter" with Tom. I'll post it as soon as possible. Gotta run now. If I think of anything else, I'll post it later.
