moonie ?Baraboo woman charged with selling fake Rolling Stones ticketsLawson
Police say a Baraboo woman concocted an Internet money scheme that involved selling fake Rolling Stones tickets.
Aside from the theft charge against her, 24-year-old Samantha S. Lawson also faces charges of resisting arrest and battery to law enforcement officers in relation to an alleged skirmish that took place prior to her arrest.
In a criminal complaint filed this week, the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office alleges Lawson enticed a Whitefish Bay woman to purchase tickets to see the classic rock band The Rolling Stones through the online classifieds website craigslist.com.
Lawson allegedly posed as a man named Larry Mints, and offered to send the tickets to the buyer after he sent her a $500 by MoneyGram. The buyer never received the tickets, and filed a complaint with police.
Surveillance video at the Baraboo Walmart Superstore allegedly showed a third party picking up the cash. However, when police interviewed that person, he alleged that he was asked to get the cash by Lawson, who gave him the password and necessary information to make the pickup.
Police later confronted Lawson during a traffic stop, and asked her if she had received any money recently. According to the complaint, Lawson said she had received money from her aunt, who she said was named Angela. She could not provide a last name, and police noted that Angela was the same name as the alleged victim in the case.
When officers attempted to place Lawson under arrest, she allegedly became violent, accused them of being racist, and pulled away. She allegedly kicked and swung at officers, who eventually were able to place her in handcuffs and in the back of a squad car.
Lawson was jailed on a $500 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 1. If convicted of the battery charge, she could face up to $10,000 in fines and six years in prison.
