I picked it up in a record store. But I live in The Netherlands, so it might be a different ball game. I hope it's available to everyone that wants to buy it right after the release.

I'm very happy with High Hopes. After giving it several spins, I'd say 4 out of 5 stars. There's a pleasant warmth glowing off this one. I understand it's composed from a bunch of leftovers, but it doesn't sound like a bunch of loose songs and is larger than the sum of it's parts.

Now I'm curious if he attaches another US/European tour with this. I really like to hear these songs live.

So far just Australia and a show in South Africa. In an interview he said he's considering some U.S. dates.

Steve van Zandt is unable from April (after the SA/Oz/NZ tour) through June as he's in Norway filming 'Lillyhammer'.

I thought Bruce was very non-committal on US dates in the near future (ie this summer). While he acknowledged some markets didnt get a lot of shows (or any) he sounded like while he wanted to play there he didnt want to get people prematurely excited about it.

The impression I got from a recent interview with SVZ was that he has a shitload of recent songs that he wants to put out (Springsteen himself mentioned that he'd cut about 30 songs a couple of years ago but that when he wrote 'Easy Money' for the project it spiralled in a different direction completely and he ended up writing a new album which became 'Wrecking Ball')

I think its more likely he'll work on a new record at some point this year and then wait until it's out before doing a 'proper' tour.

the amount of projects in the pipeline at the minute are jawdropping. Remasters of the first two albums, a River box set, new songs, the album he was working on before 'Wrecking Ball', unreleased projects from recentd ecades that may end up on some 'Tracks 2' type release.

'High Hopes' is very good. The version of 'The Wall' on it is stunning. Still not crazy about the idea of reworking and releasing new versions of songs that have already been widely released, although saying that, they're good versions (especially 'American Skin').

Its a great time to be a Bruce fan, but for the sake of my wallet, I hope to fuck he doesnt play Europe until 2015.

I saw a rumor that he's already booked for Milan in 2015. So, looks your wallet will be safe until then. Mine however has a few spare dollars. Since he skipped the USA last year.

IT'S EVOLUTION, BABY! LIVE DOWNLOAD PROGRAM DONE RIGHT
Sans wristbands, direct downloads at high fidelity and a reasonable price
On Friday, a press release announced that Springsteen's upcoming concerts would be available as official audio downloads, enabled by USB wristbands available at each show and online. On Saturday, we took a closer look at this astounding new development, considering how fans have long yearned for official live audio, with hopes (and also sources suggesting) that this effort would evolve to match the more road-tested distribution methods and pricing of bands like Phish and Pearl Jam. Today... we do the evolution.

Backstreets has just confirmed that, in addition to the USB wristband sales model, Springsteen will also be offering direct audio downloads through his official Live Nation online store following each show on the upcoming leg, with no physical purchase required. There will be two options for audio formats: MP3 (320 kbps) or FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec). Pricing will match Pearl Jam's, at $9.99 for MP3 or $14.99 for FLAC. Hard to say fairer than that.

This plan is in place for at least each show on the South Africa/Australia/New Zealand leg. Support it, and it's hard to see why they'd stop there.

So, $255/£165 for mixed soundboard recordings of the entire 17-date tour in lossless quality. Maybe they'll even do what Peal Jam did and offer a discount rate if you buy them all. Probably 50 hours plus of music.

Half the price of a Stones nosebleed ticket.

That really is quite something. I can safely predict I won't be going out much this year.

Morello brings a different style to the band.  From the broadcast performances I've seen, he seems to fit quite well.  Has there been a four guitar outing yet?

No (well, not unless you count gigs Patti has been present... Smiley  )

The opening show of the tour in South Africa this Sunday will be the first with the four guitar line up.

Rumour has it you can expect some more US dates for spring 2014 to be confirmed very soon. Possibly next week.

1st show in South Africa. Realize it's the first show of the tour/Leg/Whatever and Morello doesn't know all the songs (another reason not to bring him onboard) etc, etc. But just the fact that the basic setlist formula is the same is very disappointing. If you're going to continue to tour and have guys who have been with you for years and years and so much material to choose from. Why do the same old stuff.  War horses couldn't drag me away

Start Time: 8:13 p.m. (local time)
Setlist
1. Free Nelson Mandela
2. Badlands
3. Death To My Hometown
4. Out In The Street
5. High Hopes
6. Spirit In The Night
7. Hungry Heart
8. The River
9. Heaven’s Wall
10. Atlantic City
11. Johnny 99
12. Pay Me My Money Down
13. 41 Shots (American Skin)
14. Because The Night
15. Darlington County
16. Shackled And Drawn
17. Waitin’ On A Sunny Day
18. The Rising
19. The Ghost Of Tom Joad
20. Land Of Hope And Dreams
21. We Alive
22. Born In The USA
23. Born To Run
24. Dancing In The Dark
25. Tenth Avenue Freeze Out
26. Shout
27. Thunder Road (acoustic)

End Time: 11:21 p.m.

Think its a pretty safe bet that about 99% of that audience have never seen him perform before.

Why would he be expected to play a slew of unfamiliar songs for the benefit of fans thousands of miles away who havent bought a ticket?

Morello does know the songs - he's been rehearsing dozens of them and he played on the Australian leg last year, which had pretty varied setlists.

If that was the sort of setlist he was using when they get to Australia, I can understand the criticism, but I think its pretty reasonable for his first ever show in South Africa in a recording career going back 40 years. The tickets for these shows went on sale long before it was confirmed he was releasing a new record.

SCL, I'm curious about your dislike of Morello.
If it was not Morello, agreeing there has to be 3 electric in this, who would you replace him with?  Obvious, SVZ is making $$ with Netflix, or he'd be there.  Another thing, if he was not up to speed with Bruce, he'd not be there, so IMHO, he's fine & adds variety to the band.   Full disclosure-my son had to tell me who he was, for I'd never heard of him before he began playing with Bruce.  Sometimes, I just do not get out much.
