Title: Cardinal Fang Q's
Post by liv on Aug 6th, 2016 at 3:33pm
I just stumbled upon rocks off a few months ago in the hopes that someone on here was close to my uncle Jimmy Whitley, or better known Cardinal Fang. It was really shitty having to go back into all of his stuff and finding all of these people that he's touched and what an impact on people he had. If anyone has any stories or anything like that, that'd be kick ass.

We exhchanged bootlegs, not just Stones but a lot of Frank Zappa

He was the winner of a trivia about the Rolling Stones, the last part of the trivia was live, he really knew about the Stones

This is him with the prize, an original by Fernando Aceves, this trivia was in 2003 and trust me it was a hard one and he was number 1

I think CF was before my time on this board, but I remember hearing some complimentary posts for him.

Looking forward to hearing more about him.

Fang was one of the greats. This board was poppin in early 2000's.

Sadly , Joey's drivel drove out many of the good ones.

The good Cardinal was one of the most knowledgeable dudes in a board chalk full of knowledgeable dudes and dudettes. I was very sad to hear of his passing!

Amongst many other communications we had over the years, Fang and his good buddy Syph contributed several songs to a Stones "Cover" album I put together over at the other board that must never be mentioned......not only did Fang and Syph contribute 3 or 4 Stones covers, but he also wrote a song about the board's influence in his life. I'm not sure if the audio is still up or not (just tried it and it doesn't work on my computer) but here is the link to the song:

Peace out! and best wishes!

Jimmy was a great, great friend and a Stones expert.

I still miss him, his posts and emails.

RIP Cardinal Fang...may the Good Lord Shine a Light on you.

I "met" Jimmy on Lew's board in Jan. 99. My niece and I flew to Sacramento for a Stones gig in February and we just got to say a brief hello to him and Syph. Jimmy worked all day and the logistics just didn't work out.
When I expressed interest in the whole bootleg thing, he burned some music and videos for me so I could get started trading. He would not accept anything in return, not even blanks to cover costs. That opened up an amazing burn and trade and gift of bootlegs for me for many years.
The next few years we communicated both on the boards and email.
In 2005, we met for a weekend of fun and craziness in San Francisco with SheRat, Pdog, Payphone Al along with Susan. Fantastic memories that will never fade.
We had sporadic email communication for a time but eventually lost contact after that.
I cherish my cd copy of Angels of Wonderland that he a Syph recorded. When he sent it, he made sure to tell me ahead of time that I was mentioned in the recording as being old school.😊 It's one of the first CDs I put on my IPod and it's on my favorite playlist.
I always considered Jimmy a good friend. May he rest in peace.

Rick

Bring 'me in. Strap 'em down. Let's rock and roll.

Jimmy was a smart, good, funny man.  One of this board's greatest posts was his analysis of just who was playing guitar on Highway Child.  I miss him.  I appreciate he reached out to me in PM's at some tough times.
