I saw Ian McLagan tonight playing in James McMurtry's band (Great show, if you get a chance to see it - they're on tour in Europe throughout this month) and got to chat with him for about ten minutes or so. Really nice guy.
Rags - if you're reading this, Mac says hello , told me you're doing a great job and that he misses you.
I asked him about the Faces reunion - he said that the press story about them recording was bullshit and that Flea doesnt want to be part of any reunion. They rehearsed for three days in November - Rod arrived on the third day - everyone got along great and everything went well. He has not heard anything from Rod Stewart since November 18th. Rod knows his number but hasn't been in touch so it would appear there's no immediate prospect of anything. As far as he's concerned, he feels Rod needs a Faces reunion more than any of the rest of them (although he acknowledged the money would be nice!)
As for Ronnie - he's doing OK and seems happy with his girlfriend. Mac is sorry for Jo, however. His alcoholism is something he still has to deal with, though. In Mac's words, "he hasnt found 'grace' with his drinking'. They hung out together a couple of months ago for a few days and Ronnie didnt touch alcohol. Not because the Stones have been telling him not to, but (encouragingly) because he simply didnt want any. He has had a few piss-ups since then, though.
I asked him if he'd heard of any plans for a future Stones album, but he said he didnt know.
