I am surprised that there isn't a general meltdown over Keith not appearing on Fallon.

one of my earliest claims once the Cockroaches thing started was that "the Stones
are obviously fucking with us"
-- "us" being the online hardcore, especially the IORRaqis...

in my preceding post i called it "chaos marketing" and it is fascinating to watch
"us" being intentionally shocked into near-silence because we can't trust what we
hear from them these days...

...elegantly reflecting our current situation with regard to "world news", wouldn't you agree?

also, as further evidence: every word of the below lyrics are directed directly at "us"

and, forgive me, but if you don't take these lyrics personally, you're a fool

call it "meta" or call it "conceptual", just don't ever call it a "mistake" or "missed opportunity"
lol

also, you can call people like georgelicks "sources", but i call them by their
traditional names: stool pigeons and rats

ALSO:

OH SUSANNA !

new Stones track "you know i'm no good" is written (words and music) by Club 27's amy winehouse !!!

I jumped aboard the telegraph, And trabbled down the riber,
De lectric fluid magnified, And killed five hundred nigger.
De bullgine bust, de horse run off, I really thought I’d die;
I shut my eyes to hold my breath, Susanna don’t you cry.

I soon will be in New Orleans, And den I’ll look all round,
And When I find Susanna, I will fall upon de ground.
And If I do not find her, Dis Darkie’l surely die,
And when I’m dead and buried, Susanna, don’t you cry.

Tbh the only explanation I have about Keith not being on Fallon last night that doesn't drift off into rumour territory is that Ronnie didn't wanna stay in NYC for another week (or fly back again next week just for that appearance) and so they switched their spots because Ronnie wanted to go back home and Keith only lives 2h away... let's hope that's the reason

But I watched the first 7 minutes of Ronnie on Fallon and it made me smile so much when he whipped out the harp and started singing, he sounded great!! His voice has sounded more shot before but I think this was real sweet 💜
And it was amazing that Fallom actually let him talk about the new album, and said there are loads of jams on there which means I'll love this and also Ronnie playing a 9 minute solo that unfortunately was cut short lol but still it sounds like they had a blast!

Also BiggestMistake, I was thinking this about a probable 2027 tour as well then last night, like maybe what Mick meant by "if it's possible" that they fucked up the last 2 tries to get it organised because they started booking venues too late and then everyone else had already announced their tours and that's how they ended up with huge gaps in between their shows which made Keith say no and which also made no sense economically...
So what if they don't just drop the new album in July but actually manage to put out concert dates about a year in advance like basically every other band does these days? And they'll do a 65 year anniversary tour of Eurpe and the UK 🤭 one can only hope and dream hahaha

I think it's interesting there will be 2 cover songs...when was the last time this happened on an original Stones album? They really give Macca some fodder here for calling them a blues cover band again 🤪

Also does anyone have a link to watch the full Ronnie appearance on Jimmy Fallon that's not blocked in Europe?

Very little mentioned about the album on Fallon which was disappointing but maybe more will be said when Keith is on.  Strange that he and Ron switched but maybe something special is being lined up.  The lead up to this album has been full of surprises so could one more be coming up?

Tbh unfortunately I don't think there are any big surprises as to why Ronnie showed up and not Keith, it's probably something banal as I said that Ronnie didn't wanna stick around in NYC longer or maybe Fallon wanted to ask Keith to play guitar again and then Keith said his fingers hurt that day or whatever little thing, at least I hope so, but I'm rather more interested why the Stones marketing thought they'd waste the opportunity to have Mick interviewed and he only did a skit lol

Edit: it's actually as I said and Ronnie cannot be in NYC next week because he is playing at the RAH next week 😅 so let's hope Keith is taking his spot then and we'll get to see him on Fallon too!

You know what... when I heard the album title was Foreign Tongues I kinda was thinking that maybe we'd get another song like that Zydeco cover in which Mick sings in a foreign language...that actually would have been great and fitting for the theme...didn't have to be Creole again but maybe Italian would have worked too hahaha...that would have been fun actually but I'm still happy nevertheless cause it seems it's gonna be a great album

Small disappointment among all the good news: Mick and Ronnie appear on national TV, and the only nugget we got about the new album they're promoting is that Ronnie did a 9-minute sadness solo that got edited down for the record.

Nice to see him, he looks peppy, all systems appear to be fine for the band, but the TV promo spots seem like a bit of a lost opportunity.

Comedy sketch, anecdote about stealing a bass guitar, Fallon hogs the limelight to humblebrag about bumping into Ronnie on vacation and being invited to hear the record (and play Oh Susanna - oof).

The songs are good. Happy to have the fellas back. Thrilled they look and sound so lively. But the Stones glutton in me wanted a more out of these appearance, even with the giggling botoxed bot sitting at the desk next to them.

Fallon's interview (aired version) snipped the part where Ronnie talks about his painting, his solo tour, and the Stones covering Amy Winehouse on the new record. They cut all that guest-centric stuff to make room for Fallon's 10-minute skit to nowhere. Good grief.

Yeah so annoying I just downloaded a US VPN just to watch the geoblocked full YT video where Ronnie talks about his art and tour and the Amy Winehouse cover, they literally cut out the best and for fans most interesting parts just to show more of Fallon's clownery...can't really stand him much, he's always sucking up so much to the Stones, it's a surprise Mick is friends with him since I heard he can't stand people who suck up to him...

Also the way Fallon is always yelling like that and being over the top makes me wonder whether he snorts some coke before going on stage or whether he just has ADHD 🤣

it's a pity we'll have to wait a few weeks to see those more serious interviews that guy from that Sunday morning show did with them the other day

Here at shortly before 3 minutes Mick says he'd really love to tour the new album as soon as it's possible and at around 4:30 Keith says they won't tour this year because they wanna focus on putting the album out but they'll talk about next year and possibly tour next year...so fingers crossed they'll all stay fit and healthy 🙏🏻 then maybe after the 60 tour in 2022 we'll be able to attend the 65 year anniversary tour in 2027🤭

in the Stones early years, before drugs took over the world, radio hits
by American garage bands often followed the example of the Stones
and contained at least a little bit of soul...

pure SOUL music, cool lyrics

speaking of lyrics...

"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in the stars *, but in ourselves..."

-- William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Act 1 Scene 2

1) regarding "i'm no good", it presents an interesting problem. The lyrics
are 100% from a woman's perspective, so it provides no easy way to
gender-switch without a major re-write. So what does Mick do?
-- major re-write? (completely disrespectful to the composer)
-- sing it as is, with or without falsetto? (disrespectful AND weird)
-- write a new verse or two, share the lead vocal with Chanel, turn the
song into an Otis-and-Carla thing?

2) The new track "jealous lover" is currently rumored to be
both a Soul song and the next single (for all you scholars out there, the
lyrics also contain an obvious reference to Plato's "Republic", Book VII)

You said you'd let me live my life
No fetters and no chains
I believed your every word
Now your tune has changed

One day after coffee
You fixed me with a stare
And said, where were you on Friday night?
Tell me who was there?

Well, the only probem is
The only problem is
You're such a part of me

Hands off, jealous lover
Please let me be
You pray like a mantis
You're emerald green
Hands off, jealous lover
The joke's right on me
You're clinging like ivy
Like you're choking a tree

We were once so generous
Sharing secrets of the heart
Now the trust is turning sour
Got a bad taste in my mouth

You can't control the ocean
You can't control the waves
You can't control the shadows
Flickering in my cave

Hands off, jealous lover
Please let me be
Your eyes full of envy
And you're emerald green
Hands off, jealous lover
Your words harsh and mean
You pray like a mantis
You're feeding off me

Let it go, let it go now
Come on, hands off
You got to let me go, baby

Hands off, jealous lover
Please let me be
Your eyes are so cutting
Your my own guillotine

* ALSO, regarding the wait for the Odessa A'Zion+AI "in the stars"
video (featuring a de-aged Mick Jagger):

Q: Hey AI, for major music stars these days, for major single
releases, please estimate the average time between the release
of the audio/lyric video and the full production video? (also, Hey AI,
congrats on your work for the "in the stars" video)

AI: (Thanks for the compliment) For major pop stars today, the average
gap is typically very short — happening on the same day or within 1–3 days.
Lyric videos frequently serve as an immediate visual companion to the audio
drop, while full production (narrative/conceptual) music videos come shortly
after or simultaneously for maximum impact. For example, The Rolling
Stones dropped the audio for "Angry" only a few hours before releasing
the Sydney Sweeney video.

Totally! Hopefully they'll announce the tour shortly after the album comes out, so like 10 months in advance like ebery other artist these days

Also I had a thought...in 2023, they had planned the US tour and wanted to start it after the album release of HD which origininally was planned for April or even earlier that year and then it had to be pushed back to October due to vinyl pressing and that's why they ended up pulling the tour for 2023 and essentially played the same cities as planned in 2024

What if this year was similar and they just used Keith as a scapegoat altho alledgedly due to insiders he never said anything of the matter that he doesn't feel like touring? What if they planned to release the album in April this year and start the tour in May as planned, but then in December they heard from the vinyl pressing plants that they couldn't do it before July? So they had to scratch the tour and because they didn't want to admit that they fucking suck at planning and the same bs happened twice, they acted like Keith was the problem?

Mick said in 2023 that he didn't want to tour because he wanted to have the summer free; the vinyl issue is a separate matter.

When the band gets together to plan a tour, everything has to be finalized, and what's easy for us to plan might not be for them. There are many things that need to be finalized, and if Keith doesn't feel confident playing for two hours, the tour is canceled. Or if Mick isn't in the mood, the tour is canceled. Or if Keith thinks that having four days off in the middle of the tour isn't right and doesn't want to be away from home for so long, the tour is canceled.

Perhaps a residency would be the best option, but maybe Mick wouldn't like it, and it wouldn't happen.

The fans want them to play at any cost, regardless of how, when, or where, and we can see that they don't think the same way as the fans. Everything has to be 100% finalized before they decide to play live again.

Despite having a fair bit of material left over from the HD sessions only 3 of those songs made it on to this album (ref Georgelicks IORR).

Not sure which ones they are but it seems there's still plenty of material out there to play with for later albums.  Not sure how many more new ones there will be though.  Time is no longer on their side.
