Hey there y'all! I literally just came back here rn after months to see what Rev is saying about the new song hahah and I'm glad you agree that the lyrics are great, I think so too Cheesy
I was sooo happy to see that it's a blues song, that's exactly the Stones sound I love the most! Not so amused with the whole marketing, the outcome was underwhelming and anticlimactic, I mean the whole website and treasure hunt was fun but it's utterly ridiculous that they won't release the best song in years on streaming websites...

Finally heard the song in full now.

A great raw blues track.

Just a shame that every fan couldn't own a copy of this 12" record.

I was just thinking, seeing how the new album will come out in like 500 different versions again amyway, that there surely MUST be one that has Rough and Twisted included as a bonus song... the Stones money making machine is too capitalist to not jump on that^^

Oh it is? This is amazing to know!!! I only saw some news reports that said that it will only be out on vinyl so I thought it was a standalone single to tease the album in some way but not included in the standard album version

welcome back. Naturally I've got a lot more to say about the lyrics, but
am not motivated at the moment. I'll just leave you with this anonymous
17th century verse, superficially in praise of older women, but written
like Jagger writes, in that the poem is actually about the dangers of
young pretty women...

Hairs of threaded silver, rough and twisted
Artlessly around a lovely yellow face
Amazingly curled forehead, which I pale to see

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So from my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

Also:
PLEASE GOD, MAKE THE WHINING ON IORR STOP. GOD DO THAT FOR
ME AND I PROMISE THAT I'LL STOP RE-POSTING THIS

The talk of this being the final album worries me.

They may have decided that it's getting too much now. If it's true it will be a sad day for music but they will go out at the top..  Hopefully we will see more releases from the vaults.

Got my mine yesterday just down the road from El Macambo. I got very lucky with some help from a lovely woman! I was the guy in the line with my Cockroaches 1977 El Mocambo t-shirt signed on the back to me from Eddie Kramer. Going to have my four listen with a cup of coffee on Sunday morning. Wow! My copy is number 000364. Cheesy I do feel bad for those who tried but could not get one. I was hoping for everyone who lined up and tried, but that was not the case.

I read somewhere that they already got 10 songs left from the last session for the next album, so it likely won't be the last, granted they all stay healthy!

I just found out something that will be interesting for Rev and his prior theory about the streaming of some shows on Netflix, idk if you still have that theory, but: Netflix broadcasted a boxing match from London last night and Ronnie was present, I think they even interviewed him (I haven't skipped to that part yet, I don't care about boxing lol) and in the intro to it, they used the new Stones song (eh Cockroaches Wink )
Maybe this is indeed a hint that whatever they got coming up there will be a Netflix livestream for it! I sure hope so Cheesy

Also I mean obviously this was carefullg planned cause I don't think Netflix only produced the intro yesterday, they used the Stones song with full intention to play it live there for the first time... now I have no fucking clue when the Netflix broadcast started but was it by any chance at 1:41 East Coast time/6:41 London time? Because THEN maybe that clock finally would make some sense...maybe it was the time the boxing broadcast started idk... just trying to find some explanation to whatever the fuck happened or didn't happen yesterday

r-w, thanks so much for this write-up

You gotta I gotta laugh. Playing the new single on Sat 11th for
the boxing crowd, and not for their online rabid hardcore fans lol

i suppose i still have some hope of a Stones/Netflix mini-tour coming together
this year despite, or maybe due to, the world situation. So you're right,
Ronnie and the Cockroaches being a planned part of the Fury v Makhmudov
worldwide broadcast does give a fresh boost to this admittedly longshot idea...

I've screenshot (so you didnt think i was writing satire) the latest
bombshell dropped by our consensus leader and champion...

...

I mean, this is EXACTLY what jagger/richards are addressing in
"rough and twisted", when Mick sings sarcastically about seeking
"guidance" and "teaching" because he's "deaf blind and dumb"

As if !  As if the fucking Stones, in their 64th year of unparalleled
excellence and success, need delusional fans who think they know better,
about marketing and music and everything in the world you can possibly
imagine

As if the Stones need an elderly Norwegian superhero to save them
from themselves lol

Hahah, I just saw Bjornulf's post and my first thought was, Rev is gonna have a field day with that and I wasn't wrong xDD tbh it's kinda petty... I mean sure this campaign definitely was aimed at die-hard fans cause nobody else is willing to wait hours in front of a record store or drive a few hundred km to get to the next one, but as I see it, that whole marketing campaign is constructed as kind of a treasure hunt, it's just a game and I think the Stones and their team mainly want us to have some fan and come together and engage, which is all what happened but since it's a game it's also obvious not everyone can win (i.e. get a record on Saturday), so that's fine with me...

having digital recordings of it online and the perspective of the song being on the album at least is enough for me. I understand that some fans who waited for hours and didn't get a copy are frustrated, I'd be too in that case, but Bjornulf himself didn't even try to get to a record store, so this whole message is like a petulant little kid asking for more candy although he already got plenty

Also hahaha now that you put thw boxing thing like that it's actually kinda hilarious to think of it, that thy'd have played the song like this on Netflix but not on their own fucking website... I think it's definitely part of the message^^

From the versions I've heard, it seems like the thing we have been waiting for forever. The only negative for me, and this is a negative that has existed forever so it's not specific to this, the production is just too clean and poppy. One of my favorite things about Steve Jordan's production is that he makes great sounding records (not every one because his work with Robert Cray wasn't inspiring), and I wish he was given a shot to really produce a track like this. His comments when he was interviewed after Hackney Diamonds was released were telling. That beginning, Mick's harp, and the slide are just gorgeous.

This campaign has certainly divided Stones fans and i can see the point of those who travelled a lot of miles only to be disappointed.

I personally would like a physical copy but I'll bide my time and wait till either the band decide to release more copies (unlikely) or the prices come down on ebay or discogs (which they will eventually).

I heard a few record store employees may have decided to buy copies themselves.  Well this is nothing new as it happens every RSD. If a pot of gold falls into your hands, you're not going to give it to someone else.

Btw after reading some more opinions on IORR I'm halfway convinced that "deaf and blind and dumb" is actually aimed at some of the people there because the fact that some claim that this is a total Mick song and they think Mick is playing all the instruments on it it fucking ridiculous

I mean that opening riff is a Keith Richards signature riff if I've ever heard one and the noodling on the 2nd guitar is stereotypical Ronnie, have they never heard Ronnie play or what? Mick could never do that cause he's not a guitarist in the 1st place, he sounds entirely different... also that jam part in the middle towards the end reminds me of what they do in Rambler and Can't You Hear Me Knocking, this is quintessential Stones stuff, Mick could never pull this off alone, this is Stones greatness and can only be achieved by Jagger-Richards

The Cocky tune might be a stop-gap/ throwaway / different; and the 'album' not include 'Tough & Wristed', like the under-rated 'Gotta Get A Wrist'/'England's Joe Loss' was a tester. Who knows?

Some people have just received the following poster in an email from the
"official Hackney Diamonds email account", whatever that is. I just checked
hackneydiamonds.com and it just bounces to rollingstones.com

The Cockroaches are definitely still kicking asses and taking names

but for what product or event?

your guess is as good as mine

...

Also, FWIW, georgelicks just now:
"It seems we're going to receive what would be a trilogy of albums,
starting with Hackney Diamonds in 2023, Foreign Tongues in 2026 and
a final one in 2028-29, a golden touch to a fantastic career."

interesting...so is it gonna be like a HD anthology album or some connection to HD seeing how they wrote/recorded loads of the songs during the HD session already? I haven't gotten any mail yet altho I'm signed up with like 5 accounts  xD

Also I agree that Bjornulf is behaving like a snowflake cry baby cause he was the one preaching that they owe us nothing when the tour was cancelled (i.e. never announced), yet he is behaving all entitled and demands for more records to be released  Roll Eyes
