So, if I haven't made it clear already, I believe we've been given a strong
indication now that (as I have long-speculated) the upcoming April/May
release by the Stones will NOT be an album but rather a covers EP (which
I have given the working title "Swamped"). It will contain the "Zydeco" song,
plus a 1960s Northern Soul track, plus who knows what else...

(actually its been popular in northern England since the 1960s)

clubs, and one of many obscure Soul tracks perfect for the Stones to cover...

But, hey AI, the casting call requires London people rather than those from the North? What gives?

Northern Soul culture and dance remain active and vibrant in the London
metropolitan area as of March 2026, forming a thriving fun scene that
blends long-running traditional events with a noticeable modern resurgence,
especially among younger (Gen Z) participants.

London has several consistent spots for Northern Soul nights, focusing on
rare/up-tempo 1960s–70s soul records, energetic dancing, vinyl-only sets,
and an inclusive community vibe: Rivoli Ballroom, 100 Club, Deptford
Northern Soul Club, and Teddington Soul Club.

Events draw a mix of veteran dancers, scooterists, and new faces. It’s not
the dominant nightlife force it once was in the North, but it’s far from niche
or dying — new nights and promoters keep appearing, and venues report
strong turnout. No strict dress code most nights, but comfortable shoes are
essential!

In short, the London Northern Soul scene is healthy, accessible, and growing
— a genuine subculture with both deep historical roots and fresh energy.

The Stones have often in the past sent me on a rewarding deep-dive into
obscure tracks from various sub-genres, from delta blues to dub reggae, and
so it is now with the Northern Soul parade of non-hits...

Here's a few tracks that have caught my fancy thus far...

Definitely not confirmed, but there are circumstantial indications
that the new Stones vid was filmed at the Rivoli Ballroom over the
past two days. No Stones were involved. Couldn't be a more simple
concept. Open bar, a switched-on DJ spinning (not necessarily obscure)
Soul tunes, one of which being the new cover, a diverse crowd dancing
and laughing and flirting. Messing and fooling around, you know,
like we used to...

First gigs of the Cockroaches were at El Mocambo in 1977, then the Fox in Atlanta in 1978 and last in 1981 at Sir Morgans Cove, Worcester, MA

label’s London address, while the WhatsApp channel description states,
“Making their return after 49 years…” which matches the time span between
those fateful Toronto gigs and this new announcement.

It is reasonable, based on the above pictured time, if youre in London,
at 1:41pm on 4/11, to be watching your WhatsApp, and to be on your
motorbike, or at least wearing your sneakers
