not farfetched? are you trying to ruin my reputation?

I mean, how about the entirety of my thesis? fantastical enough for ya?

rolling stones "kicking and streaming" netflix series

-- one gig per week
-- using venue staging and screens

week by week, a TV-centric itinerary...
1. buddy guy's club in chicago
2. apollo theater NYC
3. royal albert hall london
4. Colosseum Rome
5. Maraya Concert Hall, Saudi Arabia
6. ryman auditorium, Nashville
7. hollywood bowl
8. Rio Plata Stadium, Buenos Aires

-- weekly travelogue/stones history/backstage, plus a few songs live
-- featuring memories of Charlie etc, plus new members Darryl and Steve
-- series compilation with bonus live material, available for purchase
-- also, new LP "royal laundry" teased during series, then released
-- possible extra, april 2026, an EP of covers "swamped"

-- fyi, very important, netflix has 300 million paying households

I'd go with like 30% of those potential venues you mentioned Rev 😅

In Germany on NYE there always are concerts being broadcast on TV channel 3sat and I'm currently watching Elton John and Brandi Carlile in London, playing on stage for their collab album release this April (Andy Watt is there playing with them cause he produced the album) and I was thinking what if the Stones did something like that for the new album in London too, at the O2 or Royal Albert Hall maybe? It would be fucking awesome 💜

Also speaking of Elton, I saw him on his "farewell tour" in 2022, yet he still keeps playing occassional shows 😅 so that's basically what I'm hoping for the Stones now too

On the Shidobee group someone posted about his guess that he bets the Stones are playing a Vegas residency next year and I replied this:

I think they'd rather die than become a boring residency act in Vegas tbh 🙈 rather than a Vegas residency over multiple months (which seems to be the issue for Keith, he just doesn't wanna be away from home over several months and travelling around so mucu) I can rather imagine them play 3-5 shows in NYC followed by 3-5 shows in London, a mini-tour wuthout much travelling, and only in places where they got houses close by (Keith still ahs his beloved Redlands after all and family in the UK, so staying in London for 2 weeks to do some shows doesn't seem too unrealistic)...but we'll see, I just hope we can see them on stage again at least one last time for the album release, that's what I keep hoping and wishing for for the new year 🙏🏻💜

And Keith's daughter Angela literally liked my comment 😅 at first I thought it was just a fake site but it seems to ber her actual legit profile, judging from her posts/pictures/videos and I think someone said before she is on the Shidobee group

I'm taking this as confirmation now that she agrees with what I said hahaha, so let's hope for some London and NYC shows next year 😉

Happy New Year, Keith just posted this on IG "...and I hope to see you in the next one" LOL so now I'm curious what all the doomsday people who already called "the end of the Stones" are making of that 😅

He looks better and healthier now than when he was on tour. Also interesting that he seems to be smoking a lot more weed now that he's quit cigarettes. The slight American in his accent seems to be a lot more diluted than before. Perhaps he's hanging out with more Brits in the last few months.

The President of Argentina, Javier Milei (who used to impersonate Jagger
in a Rolling Stones tribute band), today, after receiving on his X feed a
video of the Stones performing "happy", posted the following...

"X dará señales... Bienvenidas si traen a los Stones...!!!"

...which, in the context of Milei posting a number of successive comments
about how he was feeling good about the year 2026, can be interpreted as...

"X brings me a happy New Year omen. An especially welcome omen if
it brings the Stones to Argentina"

a less interesting concept, from a less interesting band, but still relevant
to our discussion...

"...a scripted series about the rock band U2, who are signed to
UMG's Island Records, the project is in development at
Netflix, written by Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody).
U2 is directly involved, and it's expected to chronicle the band's rise
and legacy. Rumors tie it to U2's potential 2026 tour plans, possibly
as a promotional tie-in, but nothing concrete has thus far emerged."

Tbh I pray to god something like that (a biopic) will never happen for the Stones cause it's only interesting for casual fans but fans like us here who're crazy enough to travel all over the place for them and know loads of stuff about them, won't be happy with whatever screenplay someone comes up with, true Queen fans certainly weren't happy at all with Bohemian Rhapsody...

But give me all the tour/recording documentaries and concert movies please 🤌🤌

We're still waiting for the HD Documentary.

I think it's fair to say it's not gonna happen.

As for a biopic, various projects have been talked about for decades but a proper one has never got off the ground and i doubt it ever will.

regarding the possible Stones thing, definitely NOT a biopic.

i referenced the U2 thing only because it shows that there's a unit at
netflix partnering on an innovative series with an active UMG classic
rock band

Forget bohemian rhapsody. Think more about how the Stones
incorporated travelogue bits and historical bits into Olé Olé Olé, only
this time not released in retrospect, but rather broadcast week-by-week
more or less as it happens -- the historical bits prepared well in advance,
the travelogue bits filmed that very week, and the bits from the gig
maybe live or else as soon as the next evening...

Something like this would be very amazing indeed, Rev... tho tbh as much as I wish there would be live broadcasts of shows, I kinda have a feeling that Mick might feel too self-conscious about putting unedited stuff out there... I mean you can hear on the HD Deluxe version where they edited stuff from the Racket show but I think during the 2024 tour the shows I attended, they sounded fucking great and they totally could broadcast this live but I have a feeling Mick might not be so amused about this because he wants to have 100% controll of everything...

r-w, upon reflection, i agree. the logistics would simply be too daunting
to precisely schedule in exactly 10 or 15 minutes of truly LIVE performance
to end each week's 60-minute TV program...

so I'll edit my last paragraph as follows...

"...broadcast week-by-week more or less as it happens -- the historical
bits prepared well in advance, the travelogue bits filmed that very week,
and the bits from the gig maybe live or else edited in as soon as
the next evening... "

so, let's imagine, the gigs are on saturdays, and the broadcast episodes
premier on sunday evening, giving them 18 hours or so to pick out
and clean up the best 10-15 minutes of the gig for immediate broadcast
(with us eventually getting to purchase, in whole or part, more of these
special gigs)

Yeah guess that would be possible to do if they wanted to do it like that, unless they'd wanna do overdubs, then of course not 😅
Idk tbh I'd be entirely happy if they did something along the lines of the Stripped sessions in the mid-90s where they played in 2-3 places (I think London, Paris and Amsterdam) and then later released the best version of each song on DVD

Only now I'd imagine it to be NYC and London  they could even play venues of various sizes in each of those cities, like one small (Beacon/Albert Hall, one medium (MSG/O2) and one big stadium and then just take the like 2-3 best songs of each venue to make a DVD out of it

It turns out not just U2 but also Madonna has a biopic-type series
stuck in development hell at netflix. The problem seems to be diminishing
returns for the biopic format. The Queen one was huge, the Elton one much
less so, the Dylan one even less, and the Springsteen one was hardly even
noticed...

I think the obvious lesson is that biopics need the star to be dead.
So my guess is that the U2 and Madonna series will not proceed
anytime soon...

However there is a living music star who has just successfully streamed
a 6-part series on disney+ that is not entirely dissimilar to Olé Olé Olé
nor to what I envision for the Stones this year (except the Stones thing
will be week-by-week as-it-happens, far less stagey and egotistical,
far more about the music and musicians and the different worlds we
Stones fans come from)

unspoken theme from Swift's docu-series:  DISNEY PRINCESSES RULE !

unspoken theme from the Stones docu-series: no they don't.

Call me old-fashioned, but there has been no mention of the different elements contained in Hey Niggly Rita on Black & Bloomers - as if, in the last min - elements from the lovely original 10+ min version have been included. If only the whole track was included - it's such a groove.
Enough of this talk of a missing 'Hot' please. What happened to other hotness by the barrel-load?

the Daily Mail today wrong as usual, but inching closer to the truth...

"...the Stones are planning three mini–residencies this summer, one in
the UK, one in the US and one in Argentina"

dead silence thus far           stonesdoug

as for bv, this is what he had to say on Jan 4 about Milei/Argentina
as he angrily shut down iorr's popular "2026, what's next?" thread...

"This thread is closed because it is abused by posts about what
random presidents say and endless quotes of such crap."

Grin

and now on Jan 17, bv has doubled down and exposited further
concerning Stones 2026 and Argentina...

"Dream on. Going price is USD 10 million per show. Plus covering
six - 6 - weeks of pre rehearsals, prod rehearsals and on site
rehearsals. You can not reverse the age factor. I am not a pessimist.
I just base my opinions on facts, not dreams."

Am I enjoying bv digging himself into a deeper and deeper hole?

You bet your sweet ass I am.

Perhaps surprisingly, Argentine media is being careful with how
they are handling the Daily Mail story. Although they have no new
info, what I think is noteworthy is that none of these news outlets
are completely pooh-poohing the story, but rather are treating it
as a mystery, neither confirming nor denying. Thus of course raising
hopes further...

The only source quoted by Rolling Stone en Espanol, veteran
Argentine promoter Daniel Grinbank: "I have no information. I know
absolutely nothing."
