corrected info

Rev 20 Redlights wrote on May 6th, 2025 at 9:15pm:

based on the current activity in London, there's a lot of silly
speculation on the iorr forum that this is because the Stones
are trying to rush out an album by December so they can
tour Europe in 2026...

this line of "reasoning" is being led by a reputed "industry
insider" over there who seems to know nothing about
the manufacturing/marketing timelines for a major release
by the Stones, nor about the current state of the live
music market in Europe...

However amidst all his wrong-headed speculation, this
"insider" has confirmed a few facts we reported here over
four months ago
, namely that Universal has plans for a
major Stones album release this year, accompanied by
a few special shows to promote it...

In other words, the already-being-manufactured Diamond
Dust
and the two long-planned to-be-filmed Diamond Dust Balls
at the Sphere, both coming our way at the end of October

so everything that the Stones have been recording this year is for
a future probably 2026 album, and to keep themselves sharp for
the Balls

                                ...

also, i'm not particularly a howard stern fan, but he did a great
Sirius interview with andrew watt back in february, which
someone has now uploaded nearly intact to youtube, so
not sure how long before it gets taken down from youtube
(it will still be on Sirius). Andrew is such an amazing guy. As howard
says towards the end of the interview "thanks, andrew, for the
musical education".

3) my best guess is that they were at the Hit Factory doing
their first recording session for what they plan to be their
NEXT album, after Diamond Dust

gossip columnist Revvy Redlights:

"Still unremarked upon is the fact that this was a New York
recording session. Meaning that it is a near-certainty that
Andrew Watt was NOT at the control board and that the producer(s)
was some combo of Jagger/Richards/Was/Jordan. So is this an
entirely new project, or is it the completion of a standard
12-track Was-era album, or is it the completion of the huge
aborted Blacksmiths project that our friend Leonid is always
hyping? Honestly I have no clue, but I do expect another
New York session fairly soon
, say, before another month..."

Blacksmiths is something I’ve always been hyping? Complete nonsense. Blacksmiths was something you made up that turned out to be complete BS. Just like Diamond Dust Balls is complete BS.

Oh no! not you again

Leonid

1) obviously i was joking about your "affection" for my
Blacksmiths write-up. I'm just glad you remembered it.

2) so perhaps its time i repeat my long-standing disclaimer, that
my thing is to be plausible and entertaining in what i write. The fact
that i not infrequently, against all odds, get shit correct is merely
the cherry on top. I mean, look at the title of this thread, written
last December, and apparently about to be completely fulfilled

3) in other words, I do what gossip columnists and intelligence
analysts do, infer what's possible/probable given a limited
amount of solid information. Plus have fun doing so.

4) also, with regard to Blacksmiths, the idea was for a roots-
heavy, covers-heavy project. Very much like the two things we
know about that have emerged so far from the "Keith sessions" in
NYC, Zydeco Sont Pas Sale and Waiting for My Man. Its not
implausible to imagine that there's more such work stockpiled.

summary of recent rumors

apr 30 -- mick and andrew with vanessa da mata in london -- confirmed

may 06 -- "Stones recording now at a London studio. Mick and Andrew arrived
first. Keith last Wednesday and Ronnie, Steve expected soon" -- unconfirmed

may 06 -- "Recording expected to be finished in May. Familiar studio reserved
through June" -- unconfirmed, 2 straight months? highly unlikely. and what
studio in London is "familiar" as of 2025? NOT Metropolis, which they have only
used for overdubs, in one of the small rooms

may 06 -- "Mixing in June, album release late Nov or early Dec" -- unconfirmed,
ridiculous, June way too late for this christmas

may 09 -- Mick doing a vocal overdub at Metropolis in one of
the small rooms -- confirmed

may 10 -- "Jagger was playing acoustic guitar singing some words and many
LaLaLa’s-song ideas! Maybe 30 second simple tune clips for further work.
Short rudimentary undeveloped tunes only on acoustic with undeveloped vocals.
Left plenty of room for Keith and Jagger to finish in person." unconfirmed,
but at least somewhat realistic in terms of what could have been going
on at Metropolis. The whole band there? no way

so my conclusion remains: this recent activity has nothing to do with
the album we're getting in October, except that leaking this Metropolis
stuff is serving as a kind of appetizer for what's actually on the menu.

Probably already discussed, so apologies if so...

Over the weekend, I watched the documentary / feature Rough Diamonds.
IT wasn't too bad, but a bit haphazzard. One part I noted, after the HD premiere / announcment, Jagger mentions that in December 2022,
they recorded 23 songs for the album...and "finished" them in January, whatever "finished" means in this case.

With HD having 12 songs, that means there's 11 songs that are FFSO.
Perhaps not good enough for the initial release...we have not had any extra songs released...
or perhaps simply held back for the next album....

I have no inside info, so this is just an observation...thoughts??

The latest from the "Manager and Publisher" over there...

"I have been working on "IORR v2" since Jan. 1, 2024...  The
next step of this transition will be to find a new board of directors,
a number of persons who do have time and interest in moderating
and taking care of the IORR policy for the time to come. The IORR
board would be approx five - 5 - people...  The first task of the
new board would be to choose a new forum... I would like to have
the new forum up and running during the next 30-60 days, then
"old iorr" will be "frozen" shortly after..."

There's a lot I could say, but I don't want to get myself into any
more trouble...

...so I'll confine myself for now to one simple comment, that I find
it impossible to believe that it is mere coincidence that the forum
over there will be undergoing dramatic, and very possibly traumatic,
change at the very moment the Stones are launching their post-
touring era
with the Steve Riley single.

Steel Wheels, thanks, first confirmation we've had of the whole
band being in London, recording and/or rehearsing*. I still don't
think that the whole-band activity could possibly be at Metropolis,
because of how un-private it is there, but wherever they are/were,
this is imo super news

*
Does this mean that I think there is now a decent chance that the first warm-up gig(s) for
Vegas will be in London? Yes.

And presto! just like that we can add to the London hype...

Prepare to be blown away by Rolling Stones Unseen,
the groundbreaking exhibition that unveils 100 never-before-seen
photographs from The Rolling Stones’ 1963 genesis. Captured by
visionary photographer Gus Coral, this jaw-dropping collection
takes you back to the band’s first tour, a time of untamed energy,
gritty stages, and pure rock ‘n’ roll dreams. Hosted at the iconic
Dockside Vaults, Ivory House, London, E1W 1AT, from June 3 to
September 10, 2025, this is history in the making. Tickets start at
just £10, including a house beer, wine, or soft drink to fuel your
journey back to ‘63. This isn’t a normal exhibition where you walk
around in silence “appreciating the past”, this is a reminiscing
party! Have a drink, take some selfies and get your dancing shoes
on - expect non stop Rolling Stones music throughout!

Good to see that Darryl is going to be on the new album.

I know he isn't an official member but has been the bass player almost as long as Bill Wyman was so he's the next best thing to an official member of the group.

It took nearly 20 years for Woody to get the Full Stones treatment...
Jagger had him sign the papers in the air on the way to DC for the VooDoo Lounge opener.

i'll offer a different summary of the article...
1) its an interview from March, presented as if its new
2) ronnie does not say anything about a new album,
only the journalist does
3) the journalist does not say "at year's end", but rather
"later this year"
4) since the interview was in March, "later this year" includes NOW
5) ronnie is in fact currently NOW with the Stones in London
recording/rehearsing as needed by Mick/Keith/Andrew
6) and certainly nothing in the article refutes my claim that they
have a completed album coming out this year (HD2/Diamond
Dust
) and are currently recording material for still another
album after that
