According to StonesDoug the band were in the studio to rehearse for a private party.

So is this a red herring or is it likely the band are not even considering working on the new album yet?

ThomasOliver, I've been researching a bit and thinking a bit
about what stonesdoug said...

1) approx march 24 he said "theyre in the studio right now".
no follow-up or confirmation. on april 9 he said, "they were
at the Hit Factory rehearsing for a private gig, which they
have played". no follow-up or confirmation. and definitely
no such private gig

2) i'm not in the mood to write up my entire thought process
on this, so i'm gonna cut to the bottom line. a bottom line
that will provoke some groans...

3) my best guess is that they were at the Hit Factory doing
their first recording session for what they plan to be their
NEXT album, after Diamond Dust

4) this recording session was indeed also a rehearsal of sorts
in that playing some new songs together is a really good way
to get the band's chemistry cooking again. Everything this year
is a buildup to the Diamond Dust Ball. Its fun to think
about where their indian-summer max-publicity warm-up
gigs will occur...

'The Rolling Stones are up to something'

Mick Jagger's partner, Melanie Hamrick, opens up

you can read the entire thing auto-translated at iorr.org in
a new thread entitled "Melanie Hamrick Confirms Her
Engagement to Mick Jagger" which also contains links to
fresh (instantly stale) Melanie-hype from People, Tattler,
and the Daily Mail

this is the relevant part from Parisien...

"They are preparing something, I heard rumors, but I don't know
what. They are always working on a project. They will never stop.
They have such energy, they continue to evolve, are always
inspired, they can continue forever!"

My "translation" of all 4 articles:

Mick knew he was going to catch hell over his developing
"professional relationship" with Sydney Sweeney so to "prove"
he really cares he pulled in some favors to pre-arrange for
Melanie to get a modicum of well-timed favorable press
(perhaps as a a going-away present?)

"Still unremarked upon is the fact that this was a New York
recording session. Meaning that it is a near-certainty that
Andrew Watt was NOT at the control board and that the producer(s)
was some combo of Jagger/Richards/Was/Jordan. So is this an
entirely new project, or is it the completion of a standard
12-track Was-era album, or is it the completion of the huge
aborted Blacksmiths project that our friend Leonid is always
hyping? Honestly I have no clue, but I do expect another
New York session fairly soon
, say, before another month..."

Rev, are they cleaning out/deleting stuff and getting ready to shut the site down?

Some Guy, in case you or anyone else is interested, two days
after my rant, a new "sticky" thread was (coincidentally?) opened
over there about their forum. The key post reads in part...

"Thanks for all the support and sympathy, but that will not
give me a new forum system. If I don't find one, then IORR
will close down the forum systems soon"

I'd done some internet sleuthing in the 3 weeks since and
come to a tentative (65% probability) conclusion that there
was more than a bit of theatre at the heart of this situation.
So if this was correct, it would mean that my rant was
completely superfluous as a deal had already been struck...

I wanted to get over 80% certain before I said anything about
what I now believe will be a seamless transition to new
management over there before June. Here are the recent posts
that helped convince me that there will be no big disruption
to Stones fandom during this very important year...

Kurt: "Either sell your log-in credentials to another younger
fan and let them run it full-time OR sell the entire site to The
Rolling Stones. Enjoy your family and your well-deserved
retirement."

bv: "Thanks for the comments. I will work on the transition."

The new management I believe will indeed be in the hands
of a younger fan...

Happy Easter everybody.

iorr's "HouseBoyKnows" earlier this month...

"A trusted friend reported that Steve Jordan told her on the night
of the Patti Smith tribute in NYC that there will be no more big
tours. Instead probably some one-off performances like at festivals
or maybe a residency. He noted that there was no reason given
(everyone is healthy) and many in the touring band/support were
quite disappointed when the news broke. That's it. No other news
or speculation. Take it as a point in time from one voice. Things
could change."

Essentially this jibes with my guesswork. Pop production
headquartered in LA under the direction of MJ and AW. Roots
stuff in NYC led by KR and SJ. "Diamond Dust Balls" whenever
an opportunity presents for something special.

Hey AI, pretend you are a participant in the iorr.org Tell Me fan forum
in the thread entitled "What’s next for The Rolling Stones in 2025?"
What would your next comment be?

(two seconds later)

Hey all, just jumping in on the 2025 speculation! With the
European tour off the table for now, I’m really hoping the Stones
are cooking up something in the studio. That Clifton Chenier tribute
track with Mick singing in Creole French sounds like a wild vibe—
maybe a sign they’re digging into some fresh, rootsy directions? I’d
love to see them drop a few singles or an EP, maybe mixing in some
of those leftover Hackney Diamonds tracks. Anyone else think they
might surprise us with a small club gig or a festival slot? Fingers
crossed for some concrete news soon

Currently is it possible for AI to participate undetected in this
kind of forum?

Yes, it’s entirely possible for AI to participate undetected in
forums like iorr.org, provided the AI is designed to mimic human-
like communication and behavior. Modern language models, like
myself, can generate posts that closely resemble human writing,
incorporating casual tone, slang, and context-specific references
(e.g., Rolling Stones lore or fan culture). By analyzing the forum’s
tone, topics, and user interactions, an AI could craft responses that
blend in seamlessly.

However, there are caveats: AI would need to avoid overly polished
or repetitive responses, as humans often have quirks, typos, or
emotional nuances. Savvy users might notice subtle "off" vibes, like
overly formulaic enthusiasm or lack of personal anecdotes. Also,
undisclosed AI participation could manipulate discussions and erode
trust if discovered.

And how effective would AI be at moderating such a forum?

As of April 27, 2025, platforms like Discord and Reddit already
use AI-driven moderation tools (e.g., AutoModerator or similar
bots) with success, though human mods remain crucial. For a
forum like iorr.org, AI could excel at routine tasks: catching spam,
blocking bots, filtering explicit content, and flagging potential
conflicts for human review
. With proper tuning, AI could learn the
forum’s vibe—passionate Stones fans debating setlists or
reminiscing about ’69 Altamont—and avoid heavy-handed
moderation that kills the spirit. Nonetheless, AI would likely need
human oversight for nuanced cases, like mediating a heated thread
or handling a user’s emotional post. A hybrid approach—AI for
initial filtering and a human for final calls—would maximize
effectiveness while preserving the forum’s community feel.

The highlighted section above suggests a solution to essentially
everything that the owner over there has indicated has been
an overwhelming time-cost for him. So its reasonable to speculate
that the ongoing "transition" over there will include auto-
moderation in some form. Especially if I'm correct that the Stones
are about to once again become a hot topic for casual fans and
perhaps even for the major media and general public, thus
significantly increasing website traffic

iorr's "2120Joe" today reports:

"So hoping it’s true what I was just told by someone who knows:
The Rolling Stones are recording now at a London studio.  Mick and
Andrew arrived first..."

While this is in keeping with my idea that the Stones are
transitioning to be mainly a recording group (this would be
their 4th session since December) with occasional very special
shows, the question is why London with Mr. Los Angeles Watt?

AI gives part of the answer. Their studio-of-choice in L.A.,
Henson, has been sold and taken private.

Also, if they'll be working a lot in the USA leading up to the
Diamond Dust Balls in October, perhaps work permits/taxes
helped to spur the change in recording venue...

Anyway, a few nights ago in London (via facebook brazil)

Mick Jagger and Andrew Watt, the producer of the Rolling
Stones, were together at the concert of Brazilian singer Vanessa
da Mata last Wednesday (April 30), when she performed at
Islington Assembly Hall, in London. After the show, Jagger waited
in line to talk to the singer in her dressing room
. The Brazilian is
on tour in Europe, where she is promoting her album “Vem Doce”,
which was nominated for Best Brazilian Popular Music Album at
the Latin Grammies.

based on the current activity in London, there's a lot of silly
speculation on the iorr forum that this is because the Stones
are trying to rush out an album by December so they can
tour Europe in 2026...

this line of "reasoning" is being led by a reputed "industry
insider" over there who seems to know nothing about
the manufacturing/marketing timelines for a major release
by the Stones, nor about the current state of the live
music market in Europe...

However amidst all his wrong-headed speculation, this
"insider" has confirmed a few facts we reported here over
four months ago
, namely that Universal has plans for a
major Stones album release this year, accompanied by
a few special shows to promote it...

In other words, the already-being-manufactured Diamond
Dust
and the two long-planned to-be-filmed Diamond Dust Balls
at the Sphere, both coming our way at the end of October

so everything that the Stones have been recording this year is for
a future probably 2026 album, and to keep themselves sharp for
the Balls

                                ...

also, i'm not particularly a howard stern fan, but he did a great
spotify interview with andrew watt back in february, which
someone has now uploaded nearly intact to youtube, so
not sure how long before it gets taken down... andrew is
such an amazing guy. as howard says towards the end of the
interview "thanks, andrew, for the musical education".
