The rumors that Keith isn't playing much are false. He's laying down the rhythm all over this thing. I'm ready to hear Some of Us live.

So true it honestly gets better and better with each play!! Especially now that I got my equalizer options all sorted out, I am floored, it's so so phenomenal... there's so much going on, all the little details I didn't even catch before with the bland ordinary app adjustments, but oh wow... I'd literally beg every single person who says they cannot hear Keith to please adjust their equalizer options because he is there loud and clear just as Mick said on Wednesday...there are so many little surprises hidden here and there it's amazing and probably will take some more listens to hear them all

This album is oustanding and I stick with my word that it's the best since Some Girls

Best since Tattoo You for me.

Great to hear Charlie again

Yes people who can't hear this must be deaf tbh...I also cannot wait to hopefully hear Some of Us live next year when they manage to schedule this mini-residency tour, the only pity about this is that Mick hasn't been on stage during Keith's songs since the 80s which in this case sucks because them singing together is the best part of the song, but Mick deserves his break, would be great if Keith played 3 songs again, one can dream 🤭

BigM, you say this...

BiggestMistake wrote on Jul 11th, 2026 at 9:13am:
The Plato reference is one modest example of what I was referring to
when I said Mick is doing some clever things with his lyrics that are
sailing over people’s heads because they’re so focused on seeing their
own political attitudes confirmed.

...and then you say this:

BiggestMistake wrote on Jul 11th, 2026 at 10:04am:
Mick’s a limousine liberal.

With this one phrase you've lumped yourself in with the politically
blinded that you otherwise condemn. I know you went on to nuance
it (appropriately) but that particular pejorative is so offensive you
really ought to apologize...

If there is one thing Mick is not its a limousine liberal. That he has
to exist and thrive in a social milieu where the mass media and many
of his peers and colleagues and family are indeed that, should not be
a criticism of Mick but a compliment to his survival skills...

In his lyrics and interviews he has made it crystal clear (to me) that
his scorn is not directed solely in either political direction but rather
at the sociopathic activists on both ends, as well as at the naivete and
know-nothingness of nearly everyone in between...

Anyway, believe it or not, I am really trying to stay away from
any more lyrics. I am so blissfully lost in the music. Please nobody
for a little while say anything so stupid about the lyrics that it
forces me to write this kind of post...

What I've said about the first four singles, and what I've said
for years about ALL Mick's lyrics, will hold true for the rest of FT --
ALL the songs are about YOU (and your fellow fans and listeners).
Your only job is to try and figure out in every song which part of
"you" applies to YOU personally and which to YOU collectively.
If anybody disagrees with that, YOU are in denial. In Mick's lyrics,
"you" means YOU, always. YOU are the one(s) he has loved forever.
YOU are the one(s) that give him the blues. Mick is covered in YOU,
how fucking clear does he need to make it?

Covered in you, coming a bit unscrewed
Covered in you, feeling a bit unglued
I need a place to calm me down
But this town is so noisy
I need to drown my troubles somewhere
You're my love
You're the coat I can't take off
Covered in you

I had to google what a limousine liberal is and I don't think Mick is that... he just speak up against any dumb fucks and shit happening that he cares about, there's nothing performative about it...Mick even said he doesn't like what Bruce Springsteen is doing at his shows...I think it's one thing for musicians to write protest songs, imo they should do so if they have the ability to but to use theie shows for political ralleys is another thing...I meam it might be different in the US atm but when I attended Bruce's show last summer I was a bit irritated about it because in Europe everyone going to his shows hates Trump anyway...

Speaking of that polifical stuff...saw anothee person on Shidoobee say he hopes that Keith didn't contribute to Ringing Hollow cause the US helped him not get arrested 🤣 so another idiot who is surprised like Shocked about the fact that the Stones are woke xD fucking ridiculous

Is it only me or are so many earworm bangers that get stuck in your head on this new album? I mean especially the chorus of loads of the songs, I couldn't fall asleep last night cause my brain was alternating between multiple songs 🤣

I mean:
In the Stars, killer riff and sing-along chorus
Jealous Lover, also great sing-along chorus
Mr. Charm, hilarious lyrics and sing-along chorus
Divine Intervention, amazing guitar parts and earworm chorus
Never Wanna Lose you, catchy af melody that makes you wanna dance
Covered in You, beautiful alao catchy melody in the chorus
Side Effect, great rocky riff+chorus combination

That's literally half of the album, I'm especially amazed how many songs seem to be perfect to be played live as well (apart from those mentioned above, also Ringing Hollow and Some of Us and maybe Rough and Twisted and Hit Me in the Head) so it's not surprising at all that Mick wants to desperately tour, tbh they could tour this entire album like they did in Some Girls times... that's why it's actually the best since Some Girls imo

On Ringing Hollow, unlike my first impression when listening with not so good quality, Keith isn't just providing bg vocals in certain parts of the song but actually singing along for the greatest parts of the song 👌🏻👌🏻

Yeah HD has its moments but it pales in comparison...the lyrics are utterly bland and could have been written by bands like Coldplay or Foo Fighters and also the guitars aren't standing out a lot...FT on the other hand is explosive in many ways, not just the guitars finally being louder in the mix and loads of the songs being really in your face, but also some of the lyrics are daring or really interesting stylistically...Mick's voice sounds good on HD except for the auto-tuning but on FT he is outdoing himself, his voice hasn't sounded this great in maybe like ever tbh, I felt in the 70s it often seemed shot due to drugs and smoking which lend to a unique style of its own but nowadays... to say I'm beyond impressed wouldn't do Mick justice...this album is like a firework, firing on all calibres

Also speaking of the lyrics, I just shared my interpretation of some songs on Shidoobee...curious what y'all think and if you maybe have other interpretations or thoughts Smiley

Covered in You: I thought the lyrics were pretty sad because it seems to be about a very toxic and abusive relationship in which the woman is beating the guy (that's why taboo seeing how domestic abuse this way round always seems to be a bit ridiculed altho it's just as bad as a guy hitting his woman, or anyone abusing their partner really no matter what gender) but then I realised that maybe actually it's about gutter press papers spreading bs all day long (born on my doorstep, because that's where you find your paper, and covered in you as in news coverage) and the utterly ridiculous stuff they sometimes write especially about celebs could be classified as verbal abuse...

Hit me in the Head: another one where it seems it's about a toxic and abusive relationship at first, this made me wonder why Mick would write two songs about this topic on the same record and who hurt him so bad, but then I noticed that maybe it's about working a job you hate in this current shitty economics (wake up in the morning and you wanna make me puke, you take a little chunk of my heart), like maybe someone who has a job they hate and who'd rather do something else they actually love but it wouldn't make them enough money to survive, so they say they'd rather be killed quickly by a blow to the head than die slowly working in a shitty job that's killing them slowly...

Side Effects: almost everyone I've seen talking about it says it's about drugs, and sure, looking back at the Stones' history, especially in the 70s, it seems obvious...but actually I think it's about an all-consuming love that makes you feel like a junkie because that person you fell for is all you can think about 24/7 even tho a love like that of course isn't that healthy when it doesn't let you breathe and still exist as your own person (I got a heart to protect, I hate to be hooked)

Things will get really interesting and volatile when people start debating where FT fits into the rankings. If we take a moment to line up the track listing for Tattoo You, alongside Foreign Tongues, seeing it on the page has an effect.

I suggested on Friday that FT might displace TY in time, shifting the "best since" framework, and I think Revvy then said TY doesn't even belong in the discussion (I'm unclear on whether that's on merit or because it's not a proper album); "best since Exile" should be the new framework.

I don't know if I'd go that far. I'm a Some Girls fanatic, but I'll keep an open mind. I think it would be fun to see SG go 12 rounds with FT after Tongues' surprise 10th round TKO of Tattoo You.

It helps that I'm not annoyed by the sound or freshness of Foreign Tongues like some people clearly are.

(Diplace Beggar's Banquet? Doable.)

I think those people who are annoyed by the fresh sound listen too much to old records from the 60s and 70s because as someone who listens to loads of younger rock/indie bands from the 2010s and 2020s and their obviously modern day productions, I don't hear anything at all wrong with FT production-wise, it's just like everything else I know, maybe those people should open their minds and broaden their musical horizon

I'm gonna make a personal ranking of how mamy songs per album I love/regularly listen to, so that means it will become obvious from that where FT will be placed for me 🤭

Btw addition to the lyrics interpretation: personally I don't believe that Back in Your Life is about some random woman who ghosted Mick ages ago, but I think it's about Mick and Keith in the 80s when they were pissed at each other for various reasons but still loved each other and Mick was probably afraid to lose Keith as his oldest friend and also musical partner over all the crap...so I'm glad that nowadays, ever since approx. 2019 it seems (it already started a few years earlier maybe but since then they only said nice things about each other in interviews), they are totally fine again and are closer than ever and, personally, I'm wondering whether this coincides with Keith stopping to drink heavy liquor and be drunk 24/7 around that same time because I oftentimes had the impression that while boozed in the 80s all the way throigh early 2010s, Keith said really dumb shit in interviews that obviously hurt Mick which he probably wouldn't have said sober

At this risk of exposing myself as someone who knows nothing about anything and whose taste is in his ass (quoting To Live and Die in LA), I have to say I've always found the sound of the Big Four a bit murky (BB, LIB, SF, EOMS). Not a debate I care to get into.

So I did a really fun thing 🤭 there's this app called Moises and you can upload a song and then extract the vocals and instrumentals and then mix it the way you want, e.g. set the voice to 0 to just hear the instrumental version, or turn the vocals to 100 and the instruments down in order to better enjoy the vocals...and I did this for Some of Us, Bad Luck Hideaway, Beautiful Delilah, Ringing Hollow and Side Effects and it sounds sooo good, I'm crying omg

Anyway, here's a link if you wanna check it out:

Yeah, I saw this Ronnie setlist on IORR the other day:

...

They used Charlie's drumming from back in 2015 but recorded the rest new last year

Also how fun is it that Ronnie does setlists for recording sessions as well, I love this...man I really wish they'd finally give us some making of DVD/Netflix docu, I'd pay such good money to be able to see more studio footage of them

Guys I'm in tears 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the way some people are "listening" to songs I cannot even...so I commented on a FB post about that Some of Us demo that I'm glad they didn't put it on Dirty Work cause Mick and Keith's relationship was so strained back then we'd never have gotten those amazing bg vocals by Mick that we got now which make the song as special as it is...then some guy commented, and I quote: according to the credits, Andrew Watt did the backhround vocals 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Has this guy ever listened to the Stones??? How can he be a fan and NOT recognise Mick's voice??? What the fuck?? I couldn't help myself and asked him if he needs a hearing aid... and yeah Andy does provide minimal bg vocals at some part at the end but Mick is doing the heavy lifting here (what concerns the bg vocals I mean of course Keith's lead vocals are the best they have been in ages)

Last evening I tried to create a proper ranking based on how many songs per album I love/listen to regularly...I'm starting at Beggar's Banquet because I basically never listen to the albums before that and only like 2-3 songs on them...

Beggars Banquet: 6/10
Let it Bleed: 9/9, forever my #1
Sticky Fingers: 10/10, my #3
Exile: 18/18, my #2
Goats Head Soup: 10/10
It's only Rock'n' Roll: 4/10
Black and Blue: 7/8
Some Girls: 9/10
Emotional Rescue: 8/10
Tattoo You: 5/10
Undercover: 4/10
Dirty Work: 8/10
Steel Wheels: 8/12
Voodoo Lounge: 10/15
Bridges to Babylon: 7/13
A Bigger Bang: 7/16
Hackney Diamonds: 10/12
Foreign Tongues: 15/15 (I included BLH because they should have included it too)

Totally need to adjust my ranking from a few pages before I realised, so based on songs I like/listen to often and also overall vibes of each album and what it makes me feel and what I connect with it, my new ranking is:

Let it Bleed
Exile
Sticky Fingers
Goats Head Soup
Some Girls
Foreign Tongues
Black and Blue
Steel Wheels
Dirty Work
Hackney Diamonds
Emotional Rescue
Voodoo Lounge
Tattoo You

So FT #6 of all time for me but solely based on % of songs I like, even better than Some Girls, so even #5 for me and therefore best since Goats Head Soup!

I just listened to the original Amy Winehouse song for the first time...well maybe not for the first time...back when she still was out there making music, I really liked her...maybe I just don't remember her version of that song cause it'snnot that special tbh but goddamn the Stones really outdid themselves, their cover is SO much better than the original I almost feel bad for Amy xD but I'm sure she'd love the Stones version!

I also listened again (after ages) to the Stones cover of Beautiful Delilah from the 60s and yesh back then they covered it in their typical early 60s cover style...so I'm very pleased that they offered us something new now with that delta blues version, it contributes to making the album even more varied and interesting

ProfessorWolf on IORR (one of the best and most sane posters over there tbh) shared this compilation of interview and release-related links, what a great post, this must have taken so much effort Shocked

Anyway I noticed here that they all did loads of interviews, Mick the most naturally, but that was to be expected...anyway I hope this will shut up those idiots who claim Keith isn't interested in promoting the album 🙄 just cause Ronnie took his sppt on Jimmy Fallon (since Ronnie had to go back to London for the RAH Prince's trust show and couldn't come on the day he was supposed to come on) doesn't mean Keith isn't interested in promoting the album, probably he just cannot be bothered with Jimmy Fallon's bs...that guy acts like he's on crack 24/7 maybe Keith is just annoyed by him, I know I'd be tbh...(I mean Mick even said in that great NYT interview that he doesn't appreciate how Jimmy always acts like "Mick Jagger on stage" totally exaggerated and that Mick himself of course doesn't act like that...Jimmy just creates a charicature of him...)

If you have the chance, watch it! I first read it cause I didn't realise there was a video, but of course the text doesn't compare to Mick's actual answers, I thought it was so very interesting to watch him come up with his replies... not only his answers, his whole manner is much more candid by now than it ever has been, but I actually also felt like that in comparison to 10 or 20 years ago he also wasn't wearing that aloof and unapproachable Mick Jagger mask anymore all of the time (i.e. play that specific role, since they talked about all the roles he's taking on) and I alwsys had the feeling in older interviews (say 90s-early 2010s) that he put up these walls and wouldn't even bother to give the world a glimpse behind them...now he did basically almost tear down those walls, but I feel he already started doing ao ever since Charlie died... ever since then, we got to see the human Mick more and more, not "Mick Jagger, lead singer of the Stones and best frontman in the world"
