The sleuths over at iorr.org have built a very strong case that
we already, three years ago, heard a snippet of the McCartney
track
"covered in you"https://www.youtube.com/shorts/M738X2wTw8U1) the bass does sound great
2) the three Hackney-session tracks we have now, this one plus "Twisted"
and "Stars", are IMO way better than 80% of Hackney. Does this mean
that I was correct that Hackney, as released, was intentionally made
weak and girly, that the album was at least semi-satirical?
Well, of course it doesn't
prove that this was Mick's intent with
Hackney, but it certainly lends some weight to my argument...
Why else hold back such gems ? Why else hold back such great
lead tracks/singles ?
so yeah, I'll stake my claim again. Hackney's music and lyrics were
purposefully disingenuous, intentionally wimpy, and faking being
"not angry", whereas Foreign Tongues is back to our favorite band
being undeniably aggressive and Stonesy to the bone.

RINGING HOLLOW
Well, I was madly in love with you
Before we ever met
I saw all your movies
I smoked your cigarettes
I drove down your highway
To the mountain top
I spent all my money
Putting quarters in your old jukebox
It's ringing hollow
It's ringing deep
It's ringing loud
And there's always a scoundrel
Trying to whip up the crowd
What do you think about that?
The clocks never gonna turn back
Lady Liberty don't look so good
When she's wearing a frown
And I wandered the cities
And I hit all the bars
I drove through the suburbs
And I lounged in the malls
Let the dreamers get the dream they want
My favourite joke
So pass around the fenty
Pass around the coke
It's ringing hollow
It's ringing deep
It's ringing loud
And there's always a king
Trying to pick up the crown
What did you think about that?
They took away the welcome mat
Lady Liberty don't look so good
When there's a tear in her gown
And I drove through the desert
With the dust in my face
And I lived outside of Dallas
Rundown shack of a place
I was handcuffed and arrested
It don't make no sense
Went up to the White House
Shook hands with the president
Well, it's ringing hollow
It's ringing deep
It's ringing loud
When voices are stifled
I wanna scream out loud
Liberty's not looking too well
She's got another crack in her bell
Lady Liberty don't look so good
When she's wearing a scowl
What do you think about that?
What do you think about that?
There's no turning back
Buy me a brand new hat
NEVER WANNA LOSE YOU
Never wanna lose you
Never wanna lose you
Gold dust through my fingers
Watched it pour away
Money, blood and treasure
Where it's gone, I just can't say
Snapshots in my shoebox
Friends I can't recall
Pollocks and Picassos curling up
And falling off my kitchen wall
But I never wanna lose you
I never wanna see you run away
I never wanna lose you
Promise me, promise me
You're always gonna stay
Never wanna lose you
Never wanna lose you
Never wanna lose you, yeah
Don't worry over money
What if they took the cars?
And all the banks went busted
We'd have to sell off fifty old fancy guitars
We could move to Naples
Living in a rundown trailer park
Would we be like boxers facing up and shaping up
And going eyeball to eyeball to eyeball?
I never wanna lose you
I never wanna see you run away
I never will refuse you
Even if this world falls into decadent disarray
Love can be confusion
And nothing goes your way
At least I can amuse you
Like lovers in a play
And love is always madness
Graffiti on the wall
Please don't make me crawl
Please don't make me crawl, crawl, crawl, crawl, crawl
I never wanna lose you
I never wanna see you run away
I never wanna lose you
Promise me, promise me
You're always gonna stay
Never wanna lose you
Never wanna lose you
Never will accuse you
Never wanna lose you
Never walk away
Never walk away
Never, never, never wanna lose
Never wanna lose you
Don't ever walk away
