My guess is that you'll get five or six songs on the first few dates, mostly early in the set - with SSOH in with the warhorses. After a few shows, you'll probably be down to Angry, SSOH and Tell Me Straight, like Gazza said, and maaaaybe a rotating slot with one other one.

That's how the Stones usually roll.

I'm assuming they'll drop YCAGWYW because SSOH covers the gospel angle.

I think in those places where they play 2 shows (NYC, LA, Chicago) there also will be a more varied setlist cause that's what they did last time too in LA 2021 and London last year....

They already added four new songs to their setlist: Angry, Whole Wide World, Bite my Head Off and Sweet Sounds of Heaven.

I expect two more: Dreamy Skies and of course Tell Me Straight for Keith set.

Another one joining the "Tour Promotor" Team... guys, give us some hope  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Now it's the first time in almost 6 years that I want to travel to see them, just because those four songs from Hackney Diamonds they played live at the Racket and now with those comments and the fact that Mick and Keith will be 80 YO by then I'm going to change plans

OK...Been thinking about this all day...

I don't see any issues with opening up with ANGRY!!
Just get TPTB to maximize whatever airplay there is these days....
And promote the single a bit more than a T&A video...I mean, do people really watch videos anymore...or do they simply "catch" videos?

The opening chords are right up there with,(ahem),Start ME Up...am I wrong???

Dare I say...even substitute Angry for SMU!! (and make room for another song)

There! Said my PEACE

It's actuslly funny that Mick, who always seems to live so much in the present and has his instincts always directed to the future, is so nostalgic in his setlist choices, even tho claiming he hates nostalgia lol, so we'll see what's gonna happen...

Being a front man, Mick always has to keep an audience engaged and entertained. If he's looking out at a crowd that isnt up dancing and singing, he's going to adapt his setlist to ensure that they are.

Its a bit of payback in a way for having such expensive tickets and rarely releasing new material. Its going to be mostly older people in the front rows as a result - and those people aren't buying new music.

Its disheartening to actually read on some fan sites and facebook pages in the last day or so (shidoobee for example) some (and I emphasise its only 'some') 'diehard' fans who presumably attend multiple shows actually saying they dont want to hear new songs.  At all. It's as if the Stones may as well not have existed as a studio band beyond 1981 and their only purpose is to provide the cabaret for a social gathering.

Staggering to think that the Stones have put out their most critically acclaimed album in two generations and a lot of the people who will be down front at their upcoming shows simply don't care.

There isnt a lot of money in new music now for older acts. They're not shifting units like Adele or Taylor Swift and the money is all on playing high priced shows to audiences that are getting older and older.

There's very few veteran acts who go against the grain and play their new stuff and largely forego the 'classics' for the most part.  Bob Dylan and Van Morrison are two that I can think of.

However, they're playing theatres - not stadiums. They dont feel the need to pander to people who only know their music from a greatest hits record.

It's a real pity but the Stones have, at least since the early days, never played many theatres. An argument can be made that it's not worth it for them in terms of what goes into it and the return, but a lot of incredible songs have never been given life because of their failure to play smaller gigs. People talk about the popularity of older songs, but a part of it is that the newer songs only have one life, and that's on the record. Hence, soon after the release, they are soon forgotten- often by the band. If you look at the Roundhay Park setlist in 82, which Mick called strange or odd, there is a reasonable cross section that gives the songs on Some Girls, Emotional Rescue, and Tattoo You life. Of course, at that point, albums weren't released an average of every 10-20 years.

Half of the setlist on that tour consisted of songs from those three albums, released since mid-78. Usually five each from Some Girls and Tattoo You and a couple from Emotional Rescue.

Of course they hadnt toured Europe since 1976.  Back then, they seem to almost totally revamp the show every 3-4 years.

Look at a standard setlist from 1966. Then look at one from 1969. Then 1973. Then 1976, 1978 and 1981. They really reinvent themselves. They did it again next time around in 1989.

Even when you look at the 'old' (ie, pre 1978) songs from 1981-82 its noticeable how many of those songs hadnt been performed in a very long time. Plus they largely ignored anything from GHS and totally disregarded anything from IORR and Black and Blue.

That trend hasnt happened since 2002, which was the first tour they did that wasnt on the back of a new record. They dug deep for the arena and theatre shows on that tour but the stadium shows on that tour were the template for everything since

Really hope you're gonna be right about that!! Would be thrilled to see Lady Gaga in NJ, she's basically the only contemporary pop-radio artist that I like and hearing this song performed by her and Mick live would be incredible

Hope all has been swell in Ellen's world!

Hope to see you again on tour.

I think the real question is which warhorses will be ditched in favour of the new songs? Personally, I hope they exchange Miss You for WWW/Mess it Up+Bite My Head Off, I'm tired of it and it takes away so much time that they could easily use to play 2 new songs instead...also throw out CAGWYW or Gimme Shelter for SSoH...Angry probably might take the spot that 19th Nervous Breakdown had during the last tour...

Sadly don't think this will happen but I could die happy if I could hear WWW, Tell Me Straight and Driving Me Too Hard during a showz those are my 3 fave songs on the record...and in addition to that SSoH and then only Mick and Keith closing with RSB...one can dream  Smiley

OK...been thinking about this for a bit...not too deeply, but serendipitly, during my 25-30 minute commute each day as I listen to the new album.

The following is my list of HD songs and what they can replace in a "normal" setlist.
I looked at about 4-5 setlist from 2015-present to get a good idea of what is being/can be played in 2024.

NOTE:
I am NOT saying these are to replace each song EVERY night...but how they can be slipped into the setlist
to maintain the feel and groove of the original song in their given slots.
This is not a written-in-stone (ahhhh, see what I did there??) opinion...it's just how I feel the
new song(s) may seamlessly work in any given nights' performance.

NOTE#2:
Some Guy
, We may have to debate this over a few beers and BBQ Ribs at Daddy D’z in Atlanta

A substitution of 2-3 songs a night might be OK...some folks think more new songs, some less...(oh no, not the warhorse discussion again!!)
They can actually perform EVERY HD song during this tour, IMO.
I dont feel there are any that will bring the nite to a snore-fest for 5 minutes (Back of my hand...Has Anybody seen my baby, Juiced, come to mind)

I think the rumored small show where they play the whole album would be amazing to see, like they played SF at The Fonda

I would love to hear your thoughts/edits...

"Angry"   >>>  SMU

"Get Close"   >>>  GOMC / 19NB / LSTNT / UMT

"Depending On You"   >>> WH

"Bite My Head Off"    >>>   BITCH / UMT / BS (i know...rip BS) /Satisfaction (if not in the encore slot)

"Whole Wide World"    >>>  SFM / IORR

"Dreamy Skies"   >>>  LIB / DF / SV

"Mess It Up"   >>> MY (can reduce the restroom traffic frenzy, lol)

"Live by the Sword"   >>>  IORR / GOMC / YGMR / UMT

"Driving Me Too Hard"   >>> HTW

"Tell Me Straight"   >>>  Any Keef Song, (maybe paired with Infamy)

"Sweet Sounds of Heaven"   >>>   YCAGWYW  / GS (If the duet is extended for the runway portion
or if Gaga/Taylor shows up / MR (if Mick tosses in some amazing bluesy gospely harp!!)

"Rolling Stone Blues"     >>>    Encore add-on or intimate main set closer
