ALISON BOSHOFF: Rolling Stones get what they want with £50m TV deal for drama series about the iconic band

By ALISON BOSHOFF FOR THE DAILY MAIL

PUBLISHED: 20:11 EDT, 9 June 2022 | UPDATED: 21:09 EDT, 9 June 2022

They are famously fond of making money, and the Rolling Stones are celebrating their 60th anniversary by doing just that — kicking off the UK leg of their tour with a show at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool last night before a string of sold‑out dates, culminating in performances in Hyde Park on June 25 and July 3.

And there's more good news for their accountants: it can be revealed that the band has negotiated another giant payday.

16 episodes to cover ~12 years (out of 60!)??

Would love to see the band portrayed during the 1975-90 period...with the excessiveness and fighting in the 80s...

Anyway, production to start in 2024...so maybe we'll get to see this by late 2025/early 2026...oh what a drag.....

Tbh I fucking hate the idea of it...I didn't even fully watch that Brian biopic cause the trailer alone was so bad it made me wanna cry...I watched some biopic about Uschi Obermeier once that included Mick and Keith and they were portrayed as ridiculous parodies of themselves who only were fighting all the time altho in reality during that time they weren't on bad terms with each other...
And then I watched a scene from a BBC show called Urban Legends or so which featured Mick and Princess Margaret talking at a bar...the guy playing Mick was Jamie Campell-Bowers who literally ZERO looks like Mick

I fear that they're gonna be completely misinterpreted and that it will suck and paint a wrong picture of them and probably involve actors that look nothing at all like them, so I'd MUCH rather have another documentary in the style of Olé Olé Olé instead of whatever crap that's gonna be...

It sounds fucking horrendous. They see this as 'their legacy'? I bloody hope not.

On the surface, this does reek of absolutely awfulness, If not, unnecessary.

I did enjoy the Tommy Lee/Pamela Anderson drama from last year.
It really all depends on the production team and their commitment to quality and historic accuracy.
If it were more of that caliber, then it may gain traction...
Maybe get Seth Rogan and/or Charlize Theron involved...
they tend to have good track record and a good set of eyes for these sort of things, IMO.

I's let someone make a biopic of my life for that kind of money, no matter how awful. Of course, it would also be on of the most boring biopics ever made, but whatever.

1) i find it hard to believe that ANYBODY believes that Mick and
Keith are getting 50 million ANYTHINGS for this project, especially
since so much of this intellectual property is owned by Abkco.
Its a PR number, not a real number.

2)  Mick and Keith are two of the most visually recorded individuals
in history. This fact combined with the complexity of their
personalities and richness of their life experiences means that
no biopic could possibly be "accurate" or "realistic".

3)  So since any narrative about them is going to be deeply flawed,
it just makes sense for them to get a jump on the history-industry
and paint the picture themselves as advantageously as possible.
It will just be a commercial re-retelling of the familiar truths and
myths. Its purpose will be entertainment, exactly like the Elton and
Queen bullshit movies.

4) And that's why I like the Uschi and Brian/Stoned projects so much.
(especially the Uschi one). The unauthorized stuff always contains
fragments of truth too dark to ever be allowed in any official project.

5) Also, unless the series bombs, you can be sure there'll be a
Season 2 featuring a completely bonkers Woody, which i agree
would be a hell of a lot of fun

Here's some further clarification

1) This series will be by the production team responsible for "The Crown".
"The Crown" had/has a production budget of £5 million per episode.
So that's where the £50 million number comes from. 10 episodes of
"The Stones" at £5 million production cost per episode. So yes,
Mick and Keith's take will be a small fraction of that.

2) This production team specializes in "biographical films that combine
fact and fiction". We hope that the series is entertaining. We know
that the fan base's reaction to the fiction parts will be very entertaining.

3) We need to keep in mind that it was the completely fictional
plot points in the "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie that made it
such a successful entertainment, and thereby greatly increased
Queen's catalog sales/streaming. I can imagine that that's the
blueprint "The Stones" will be following.

Elvis (2022). You can't sell a naked-truth Elvis movie, nor
a music-centric one. So, like with Freddy Mercury, you change
enough facts to make the tragic hero seem like less of a problem
and more of a victim. The result admittedly is pretty entertaining,
with lots of state-of-the-art audio-visual razzle-dazzle.

As a public service, here's some comedic scenes from "Elvis"
which sadly were left on the cutting room floor...

via vox dot com:

The iconic meeting between Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon
on December 21, 1970, has drawn a lot of attention over the
years. Pundits have analyzed Elvis's bizarre gifts to the president
(a mounted Colt .45), his unique obsessions (Communist brainwashing),
and, of course, his caped outfit.

The National Archives maintains a record of the historic meeting.
Elvis said, "The Beatles had been a real force for anti-American
spirit." He then claimed that "the Beatles came to this country, made
their money, and then returned to England where they promoted an
anti-American theme."

Elvis's anti-Beatles tirade wasn't just a one-off, either. In early 1971,
Presley took a tour of the FBI offices, and had some words to pass on
to J. Edgar Hoover. After calling the FBI director the "greatest living
American," Presley targeted the Beatles yet again. According to notes,
Elvis said that "the Beatles laid the groundwork for many of the
problems we are having with young people by their filthy unkempt
appearances and suggestive music."
