Well, my first post here will be about the release date as we're going to celebrate its 50th

The first announced release date was May 7, here a clipping I scanned some days ago from my Rolling Stone magazine (Issue 107, April 27, 1972)

Then it was moved to May 12... but guess what, it was moved to May 26 to have a simultaneous release date worldwide

This clipping with special thanks to our friend Nico Zentgraf showing the announcement in NME May 13, 1972

IT WOULD BE a mistake to read this album as an epitaph. After all, a two-record set is a pretty ambitious undertaking and the Stones have always been at their best when least ambitious. The last time they overstepped their natural boundaries, they produced the relatively lousy Their Satanic Majesties Request, but then they followed it up with "Jumping Jack Flash," Beggar's Banquet, and "Honky Tonk Women." A Stones fanatic can only hope they'll pull themselves together after this current minor fiasco and prove once more that they are indeed the world's finest and most durable rock and roll band. I still cherish my collection of Stones records somewhat more than my Harvard diploma, and until they put out another good one. I'll just have to content myself with all that great dopey stuff on the AM radio.

See the impeccably reasoned Modus I added. Plundered My Soul?...is it best to expose the newbies to commercial revisionism? Though if we're talking history, maybe there's an argument for including revisionism. Maybe PMS as the sample, and Rip This Joint replacing Rocks Off.

Considering the album title, is there a sense throughout that Jagger would have preferred self-Exile in the US to the south of France? Maybe that comes out in some songs.

It's a record of parts: themes of band history, broken romance, and longing for America.

In 2009, PHISH "wore" EXILE as their Halloween musical costume, performing the entire album.

In 2021, they actually played their future selves and performed what is expected to be a future album...a Sci-Fi Soldiers themed event...complete with a comic book version of the show included to all ticket holders.
