The last two Stones tours to mark an anniversary have each had some very special components that made them unique, and both times the band delivered on these ideas and concepts with great success.
For the 40th, there was the brilliant 'theatre / arena / stadium' concept, coupled with the deliberate revivals and debuts of several deep cuts such as "Can't You Hear Me Knocking," "Monkey Man," "If You Can't Rock Me," "Loving Cup," "Torn and Frayed," "Dance Pt. 1," and more.
For the 50th, we got two new songs performed nightly (at least up until Glastonbury), plus the return of Mick Taylor and a few new additions and surprises to the rotation ("Get Off of My Cloud" as the opener, "Goin' Down," "I Wanna Be Your Man," "You Can't Always Get What You Want" with the choirs).
For the 60th, what is left that they could possibly surprise us with? Mick Taylor could return again, and it's also the 50th anniversary of Exile, which they could acknowledge with a small segment in the show, possibly on the B-stage.
They need a new opener other than the usual "Start Me Up" / "Street Fighting Man" / "Jumping Jack Flash" revolving door; "Sympathy" may be a good choice, as the "I've been around for many long years" would be a good bit of symbolism. I also think "Time is on My Side" would be a terrific choice if they work hard at it.
For the encore, I think "Ruby Tuesday" would work well as the first song; it's got an emotional kick to it that, in the wake of Charlie and the general fact that this has to be ending sooner than later, would be a powerful opening.
A spot for an old Chuck Berry, Muddy, etc. blues number would be pretty cool as a way to acknowledge their influences. If they shorten "Miss You" to about four or five minutes, they can fit a few more numbers than usual for a nice 20-22 song set.
Something like this would be ideal:
1. Time Is On My Side 2. Start Me Up 3. Tumbling Dice 4. -- rotating spot -- 5. -- rotating spot - - 6. YCAGWYW -- B-stage Exile set -- 7. Rocks Off 8. ADTL 9. -- rotating spot -- (Happy, Rip This Joint, Loving Cup etc.) 10. Miss You 11. Honky Tonk Women 12. - - Keith ballad -- 13. -- Keith rocker - - 14. Gimme Shelter 15. Midnight Rambler 16. Paint It Black 17. SFM 18. SFTD 19. Brown Sugar 20. JJF
Encore
21. Ruby Tuesday 22. Satisfaction
We know we're getting a new stage design and whatnot, but I do hope they keep the No Filter screens. I'm not sure what they can do visually that they haven't already tried before.
