Hyde Park 25th June? - and other European tour rumours

Looks like the Stones could be headlining British Summer Time Festival at Hyde Park on June 25th if this post on the festival's volunteer page  is any indicator.

Elton is playing the day before and The Eagles the day after

If this does happen, wouldn't it be nice if Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor joined them.

I would expect there to be a few UK shows, similar to 2018.
With the ongoing uncertainty over covid from one country to the next, the amount of travelling across borders would probably be kept to a minimum.

Really - volunteers? I think paid employees is a more trustworthy and secure option. I'm sure the Stones can afford and deserve better security.

Its not a Stones show. Its a multi-day festival spread over three weekends.

'Security' and 'volunteers' are two different things.

There are two dates available that could accommodate a Stones show.

June 25th (see above) and Sunday July 3rd.

They played consecutive weekends there in 2013.

Confirmed line-ups so far :

Yes those are the 2 rumoured Hyde Park dates trending now, June 25 and July 3.

The festival and Pit shows are getting too rough! Both me and my friend were knocked down to the ground last year!

Most of these "festivals" have a significant volunteer team.
I was a volunteer at the Woodstock 94...I used to live near the site and my friends got me a slot (they still lived up there)...it was fun...answered questions, pointed folks to bathrooms, concessions...set up the first aid and water stations the night before...assisted with parking...and got to see many of the acts.

The funniest part was the number of folk sneaking in the night before to hide and bury their stashes, fearing they would be confiscated at the gates.

Think I'm done with it too. It looks like the Paris show in July will be at the Champs de Mars, an enormous park/field behind the Eiffel Tower.  Johnny Hallyday did a free Bastille Day concert there a few years ago in front of over half a million people.

These field shows are so fan un-friendly. Especially for a fanbase thats getting older.

Saying that, I was in the pit (Dublin) and Golden Circle (Twickenham) (both thanks to good fortune in the Lucky Dips) in 2018 and it was all good.

Paying silly money to stand a quarter of a mile away in a field to see a Charlie-less Stones will be a hard sell, personally.

Look at us...we have matured (aka getting old) and have moved from complaining about the set list, to complaining about the venues, LOL

However, AGREED...The Stones have played a few shows over the last few years at some (IMO) horrible venues...examples that come to mind...Some former air field on July 4 2017 (Poland?), The race track in Austin last year, the Indy 500 track, Desert Trips...Some park in Rome, Moncton, NB, CA ( I think that was festival seating) and even the Copacabana...Call me old or whatever, but they just dont sound fun for anyone not within 100ft of the stage setup...at least a football/football stadium has a concept of organization, and the PIT, at least in the US have a few folding seat for those who need or lucky enough to claim hours before the show...

Keep an eye out for those TONGUES!!

BV updates the above link as news hits his ears

I hope its a tour that everyone can enjoy...good venues...no massive GAs / festivals (Hyde Park aside)...and I hope they hit up a few smaller places
that can afford all a great, safe experience...fingers crossed for UK/EU!

Austrian press reporting that the Stones will play Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna on July 22 - although I've also heard that it may be on July 23.

Seems that rumour has some legs. Anfield scheduled to host 3 shows this summer and two of them have already been confirmed.

The Stones haven't played Liverpool since March 1971.  When they've played the North West, its usually been Manchester (even though the two cities are only about 30 miles apart and a similar size) and going a bit further east, Leeds or Sheffield.

I hate how that article uses the IORR info from the tour page without giving BV / IORR credit. I just left a comment for the article ( awaiting approval)...everyone should hit them up on principle alone.

Thanks for pointing that out. When I saw the link, it didnt provide an English translation (my Spanish is very limited).  Yes, pretty shitty to just lift what was probably hard-sourced info and not credit it.

Looking at it again, bloody hell, they even copied and pasted the whole 'rumoured dates' part of the IORR page.

Not a popular choice with many of the Dutchies in recent tours, from what I recall.

I think the stadiums in Amsterdam and Rotterdam tend to be used by different promoters and its usually a business arrangement that sees the Stones favour Amsterdam - a stadium that has a reputation for questionable acoustics (it has a roof) as opposed to De Kuip in Rotterdam (saw the last two Voodoo Lounge shows there in 1995 - a fabulous experience all round aside from the fact that it seems that everyone in Holland is a foot taller than me. Even the women)

Announcement should be coming next week! I'm excited even though I'm not sure which venues are going to be easiest to navigate and affordable. The exchange rate has always gone against me in Europe. I don't expect this Russian war is going to help matters, the stock market is dropping because of it. Or it's getting the blame.

Not to be a Debbie-Downer (this time)...but with all this activity in Ukraine with this Nuke power plant ...I see conflicting reports regarding of leaking rads...I can see a delay of any announcement.

I recall the spring / summer of 86 when I was doing my Euro sojourn and many concerts were cancelled in the northern half of Europe as Chernobyl's effects /  clouds fell upon the area. I flew in/out of London / Brussels, but mainly stayed below/south of Paris...and I sure as hell did not go out in the rain. Scary times then...and now.

Fingers crossed...for everyone's sake.

No further political talk here please...just worried about the tour and its announcement

AMS added to list on IORR:

https://iorr.org/tour22/

Thats the 7th or 8th show (depending if they play Hyde Park both weekends)...using the 14 show model they have perfected...halfway there...

AMS added to list on IORR:

https://iorr.org/tour22/

Thats the 7th or 8th show (depending if they play Hyde Park both weekends)...using the 14 show model they have perfected...halfway there...

Sometimes, its been a little more than 14 - although in Europe the figure of 14 is pretty constant!

2013 US Tour - 18 (plus a club show)
2014 Asia/Australia - 15
(1 additional show in Australia was cancelled and the two parts of the tour ended up being 8 months apart after L'Wren Scott's death)
2014 Europe - 14
2015 North America - 15 (plus 2 club/private shows)
2016 Latin America - 14
2017 Europe - 14
2018 Europe - 14
2019 North America - 17
2021 US - 14 (plus a private show)

I'd expect the remaining shows to include at least 1 show in Scandinavia, an extra 1-2 in Germany, another French show (surely they wont omit Paris), 1-2 more UK dates and maybe Italy?

Think it's safe to say that Russia and Ukraine will be off the menu

A factual error here and there but it does state that the tour announcement will be on March 14. (a few days later than what we'd originally heard)

If you get Pit tickets for Amsterdam Arena the sound is good.
Otherwise, is bad...

Interesting...I had read on IORR once, maybe twice with a repost, that it would be THIS Monday, Mar 9...not much traction after that...perhaps they confused Mondays...perhaps a delay due to concerns over the current events...

Gazza - you have to come to a London show. I know Steve isn't Charlie, but he did a great job on the three shows Nancy and I saw in 21 (Nashville, Dallas, Atlanta).

We'll see. Steve's a superb musician and did really well on the recent shows, but ...I don't know.

There's rumours of an Albert Hall show at some point - I've no idea if thats merely someone pushing something they've long dreamed about or whether it has any validity - but if something like that happened, I'd be more enthusiastic.

I remember in 2014 the shows were all at enormous stadiums and fields and I had no interest in going but when I saw they were playing the Waldbuhne in Berlin (a 20,000 capacity ampitheatre) I was all over it. Was really glad I went. A venue like that would be wonderful.

San Siro is due to be demolished soon  and replaced by a new stadium right beside it. Dont know if theres a definite timeline for this, but it could be one of the last chances to see a concert in it.

Saw Springsteen there in 2008. As far as stadium gigs go, its a pretty special place to experience a concert. Italian audiences are great.

A rumoured venue for Paris is Hippodrome de Longchamps, which is a racecourse. Saw them there both nights on the Voodoo Lounge Tour - about 85,000 each show. With Bon Jovi supporting.  Grin

There is definitely a different atmosphere and air to the Stones European gigs. I believe they played the San Siro at least twice before in 03 and 06. In 03, the Cranberries opened, and in 06, Italy had won the World Cup and Del Piero and Materazzi joined them on stage for a celebration with the crowd. The Italian shows are always special. I forgot which tour it was when Mick did Con Le Mie Lacrime.

FromWIKI:

On 24 June 2019, AC Milan and Internazionale announced their intention to build a new stadium to replace San Siro. The new 60,000 capacity stadium, which would be constructed next to San Siro, is anticipated to cost US$800 million and would be ready for the 2022–23 season. The design of the new stadium is said to be based upon the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Guns-n-Roses is also playing there July 10, 2022

Has this been documented anywhere??? :

Mick is said to be gutted to have had to give up on the Eiffel Tower idea

I swear those maniacs on IORR know EVERYTHING...and not just about how the Stones emote, but on how to plan a tour, assemble a stage, tear down a stage...and the inside story on the never mentioned except in sheer hopes, the Royal Albert Hall show many swear will happen.

Yeah. It wont be demolished by this summer, never mind have the new one ready by August!

Its beginning to sound like the chaos when Wembley was rebuilt.  Closed late 2000. Demolished 2002.  New one was supposed to open in 2003. Wasnt ready until May 2007.

Spot on. Yes, 2006. A couple of days after Italy's World Cup win.

Italy's previous World Cup win was  in 1982. The Stones played in Turin that afternoon, with Mick correctly predicting that they'd win that evening's game 3-1. At the second show the following day (on the 20th anniversary of the first Stones gig), the Stones were introduced onstage by a couple of players from the Italian team. Claudio Gentile was certainly one of them.

bv now listing Brussels for July 11, so if thats accurate its safe to say if thats accurate the rumoured theatre show in London (if it happens) wont be taking place on the band's 60th anniversary. I guess the logistics for the other shows made it unfeasible. Either that or they're simply not that sentimental.

So, I guess if that show comes off it'll possibly be between the two rumoured Hyde Park dates (ie, around 29th June) or between Hyde Park 2 and Brussels, (ie around 7th July)

Still expecting a couple of Scandinavian dates and another German show. There are also rumours of a show in Berne.

I woke up to this email:

The fan presale for the Rolling Stones SIXTY 2022 European tour commences tomorrow,
Wednesday March 16, at 10am (local time), through to Thursday March 17, at 10pm (local time).

FYI:
UK is 4 hours ahead of New York.
The continent is 5 hours ahead of New York

The link to access the presale and your code is below.
https://rollingstones.com/tour/

Code: ROCKSOFF

PS: Not a joke, that's actually the code!

Looks like the AXS and AMEX presales are already in full swing.
Travel packages are all sold out for Liverpool. Hyde park tkts for 112 BRP available with Amex pre-sale.
You can even put down a down payment of 10% and pay the rest off in 60 days...for the poorer AMEX card holders, I suspect.
This system just blows for normal everyday fans...

Tickets go on general sale on Friday March 18
.
