i don't remember the specifics, but some biographer was able to figure out
by mick's school schedule, that it had to be a tuesday, and for some other
reason, it could only have been one of two such tuesdays (and i think
there is still a dispute as to which one). anyway, Time Is On Our Side gives
it as Oct 17, and that's what it says on the plaque, so that's what i celebrate

the plaque's nice, but personally i would have gone with a sorta colossus-of-rhodes
statue that you could ride up inside and look out at the town through the eyes of
mick and keith. an english statue of LIBERTY, as befits these two freedom fighters

As to the importance of the oct 61 date, the best testimony we have, aside from charlie's quote above,
is of course keith's letter to his aunt patty...

"You know I was keen on Chuck Berry and I thought I was the only fan for miles but
one mornin' on Dartford Stn. (that's so I don't have to write a long word like station)
I was holding one of Chuck's records when a guy I knew at primary school 7-11 yrs
y'know came up to me. He's got every record Chuck Berry ever made. He is called
Mick Jagger and the greatest R&B singer this side of the Atlantic and I don't mean
maybe. I play guitar (electric) Chuck style we got us a bass player and drummer
and rhythm-guitar and we practice 2 or 3 nights a week. SWINGIN'."

Is that the latest rumor??

Sounds weird and marginally insulting.
Not sure how those hologram Elvis' and Tupaks went over in the past.

MAYBE archival footage on the big screens as the same songs are played live to honor Charlie...or just footage as a medley of his best moments are played live...(a 4 or 5 song medley)...which would also allow for room for a few other songs during the "normal" concert".

This would be great fodder for additional setlist threads, LOL

2) its addressed to every fan who says any version of "no charlie, no stones"

to such fans, i say, your grief is real (as is mine). but don't think we all must
throw ourselves on the funeral pyre. if you want to, okay, you have my blessing,
but i will have no part in trying to kill off the stones. anymore than i did when
mick taylor was frozen out of the band

3) remember, mick and keith have had months to process this (impending,
then actual) loss - when mick was in england visiting charlie, now we know why,
and we can reasonably assume that keith was secretly there too

4) again, everyone is allowed their emotions. Among mine is gratitude for the courage
now being displayed by keith and mick and steve jordan, defying the quit-mob.
