The IORR hell is finally over - What do you guys think of my films?

Alert Board Moderator about this Post!
I'm not here to only rip on IORR, but I certainly had an intense run with them, and it ties into the story I'm about to tell if anyone is interested.

So, to make a short story longer than it needs to be let me start by saying this topic is immersed in a crossfire hurricane which was induced because I have this film, the main subject at hand.

There aren't many people (if anyone) to dicuss concert film with, whom seems to be reasonably knowledgeable, or has a single clue about the Stones in general, combining the two and asking around seems to be a lost cause. So I'm really hoping anyone here is interested in helping me investigate what I have, simply out of sheer curiosity or otherwise. I have gotten as far as I can with knowing its back story but not very - you can only go so far with these things.

I started asking around and it looked like the only place I'd come to any conclusion at all is from the members of IORR, I have known about this forum for a long time, not just recently in favor of my film investigation.
First thing I tried was joining, which turned out to be impossible. The admins sent me in circles with their broken sign up form, and did not help me in anyway.

Instead of joining, as many times as I'd attempted I decided it wasn't happening and that I would selectively email members of the forum instead.. Trying to find someone to discuss this with. Well turns out the members didn't treat me any differently, acted like I was crazy.

To surpass all this, it eventually led me into joining the Undercover mailing list. This was the worst mistake of all. I'm not going to quote any of the conversation here, unless we all get discussing this and if anyone is curious. Basically it led into disaster very quickly, I was instantaneously told what I had was of no interest to any stones fan.

Was this out of jealousy or pure piss-takery?

Explaining to these people all of the film I had was complicated because, this email would have been very extensive and sent all around multiple times to everyone, taking up a large amount of space and things would have got confusing. So to make the explanation easier, I'd made them all a YouTube video with text explaining what I have instead of having this large email sent around multiple times.
Understandable right? Not in the least.

It all got pretty hilarious to be honest.

Anyway since I came here for the same reason I came to them and to generally have other stones people to converse with, if anyone is interested in seeing what I've got film wise I see no reason why I should re-type it outside of the video I already made explaining it,
Although if you feel that it would be easier to read I would have no problem discussing it here.

By all means I encourage any and all opinions
I hope one of you may know something about these mysterious films. To add to the mystery of the ladies and gentlemen travelling concert film, I put up another video shortly after where the stones themselves exclaim they'd lost it.

I hope this forum can find a place for me here, best wishes.

- since I'm new I see I can't post a link until I post this so I'll add the video link in the comments.

My stance on Emotional Rescue could be answered in the same light as if I were asked, what is your stance on Black and Blue?
A bit hard to answer, due to the fact it is held in high regards to me
But I shall try my best.

Despite the inevitability of a Keith work needing to land on every album atleast once, I may as well start here by saying Dance Part 1 (and 2) has got something going for it that other tracks do not in the sense that is it has more of an original Slave version feel to it both in its length and repititon which I appreciate. I am not one for Keith numbers in general, besides the humor factor but I like the 75 feel that Dance brought to Emotional Rescue. That being said I feel the same way about Send It To Me which is superior to Dance. Send It To Me is up there along side She's So Cold and that says alot considering She's So Cold was always my favourite track on Emotional Rescue. But that just tells how much send it to me is up there in my opinion, in more than one way.. Emotional Rescue itself could be held higher than all, and mostly is although I feel just as strongly for the aforementioned.

Now from here if I went into my own actual reasoning as to why things would get complicated so I suppose I will leave it at this.

Emotional Rescue was like a middle man between Black and Blue and Tattoo You. 75-6 seemed to bleed over through these three albums in a way that somehow married them altogether making them nearly impossible to seperate in my opinion. I could certainly see every single song on Emotional Rescue being played live in 75 very easily and it would've been great to say the least.

But anyway having a stance on something with many avenues is complicated because you can't just pin it down to saying, yeah this is it. My opinion is I like it or I don't? Maybe about particular tracks but not the album as a whole nor the era.

I hope you can understand all that.

Sorry for any inconvenience; but the problem is not us (Gazza and I) the board is giving wrong passwords or something is happening after the password is given. That’s why we have a thread in the section “Important Messages” about how to fix this problem and it is as simple as email me

Oh no no no, it wasn't your guy's fault whatsoever! Complete different forum I was talking about here, that being IORR.org. You weren't the problem at all you were very helpful and more importantly I'm posting things lol, that wasn't even possible with IORR. I have no complaints about Rocks Off thus far at all or its admins. But I appreciate you trying to help and it wasn't even your problem haha see that's the difference IORR wouldnt even go as far as giving a response of any type. Again not you guys at all I'm just glad to finally be posting on a stones forum without instant ass holes

Yeah again to clarify that quote was about trying to join IORR.org not RocksOff.
Everything else I was saying was about them also, along with the "Undercover Mailing List" which is a complete joke.

IORR??- So, we just do what we want and they just do what they want. And, there’s no point going on comparing yourself. You can prefer us to them or them to us. It’s just diplomatic, you see?

New opening scenes for L & G would be interesting to see.  The monaural theatrical version that I saw a couple of times in the 1970s began with several minutes of "dead air" footage, filmed in the darkened arena before the show.  I suppose the small lights (and lighter flicks?) visible in the dark, and the too-muted audience chatter, were meant to psych up theater audiences, but they didn't come off as anything but boring and meaningless.  Can't remember if this gaffe footage was replaced or shortened for the Eagle Rock release, and I would have to change HDs to find out.  But it sucked.

Some Guy : I was not comparing I was just letting ya'll know what happened and why it led me here in a way that would also combine the back story to my film and lead up to that ultimately being the conversation. Yap Yap : perhaps you're the only one here whom knows what I'm talking about.. These supposed "fans" on IORR hate any and all things said about the stones period if its coming from you as if its sacrilege.

That can be understandable to a certain extent however it didn't even have to be about the stones with them, it could've been about the damn whether and they were out for blood.

Andrews 27 : Yes there were two versions released for theatre in the early 70's as mentioned in my text video. The monaural version was released after the quadrophonic version as a completely seperate company made it outside of Dragonaire Ltd. Which was the company that won the rights to release, use and so to speak produce the quadrophonic version. This company was created purely for this film, so as you can probably guess, after this film was shown in theatres, the company no longer existed.

So having this version is an oddity. Mine does begin black, however it shows on the film that it was created by Dragonaire Ltd. The blackness with this text doesn't last very long at all and switches right into a frame of Mick from a side profile that is completely unlike the Eagle Rock dvd version.

With this being said as far as mine goes, I am curious to know how the one you saw "sucked" even if it was mono I know it would've been a hell of a lot better than having the Eagle rock version played out on a TV.

You don't have to explain its suckiness if you don't want I just think that would've been worth it, atleast even just to see it larger, anyway.

This is pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing it. I was aware of the 'quad' version of L&G (although I've never seen/heard it) but the rest is new to me.

I'm particularly intrigued by the short 'second concert tour' film. I take it its from the mid 60's?

Gazza I appreciate your interest,, yeah too bad we all won't really ever know unless alot of us teamed up to aquire the mass amount of equipment to play it, now who the hell has all that I've got not a single clue.

Yes you're pretty on with that, I believe it was sold in a catalogue in the late 60's however what is in the film itself is clearly from 1965. I have no idea whether this 8 film is the first footage which was captured that day or something else entirely

It's certainly of interest to me more than the others also because it's just such an oddity, I personally watched it (without the audio) which is on a seperate reel, and it has stuff that I haven't seen anywhere.. I've been an avid stones fan and youtube (or otherwise) comber and I've seen all there is out there unless someone has something like I've got which would be a miricale to be able to compare this to.

Currently I have no way of copying this film digitally either along with the others. It would take a lot of equipment

I know of some super 8 footage from Fresno in May 1965, but from memory its in colour and quite distinctly an outdoor performance.

edit - found it on youtube. The audio is synched from other shows. The original footage is silent:

Saying that, the spring 1965 tour would actually be their third American tour, not the second. The second US tour was October-November 1964. 'Second Concert Tour' seems a bit vague though as they'd obviously done several tours in the UK prior to that.

I take it this was filmed from the audience?

It takes an immature film stylist to think audiences who want a rock concert movie will sit through about four minutes of almost black, almost silent film before the stage lights finally come up on screen.  Hal Ashby, whatever his 1980s excesses, didn't make that mistake on Let's Spend the Night Together.  The blackout screen was an artsy move (some Warhol influence?) but a solipsistic choice: better in the director's head than it ever seemed to audiences. Cut that opening to less than a minute, and nobody would notice.

The rest of the film, as we know, doesn't suck.

My commentary has nothing to do with the quality or historical value of your alternate print.  I was just curious if the blackout screen was in your print also.

Gazza: Yes you're right that is a bit vague, I thought the same. Yes the performance shown on mine isn't outdoors, although I still haven't got the pleasure of playing the sound track. I think mine they were in the US, I would love to sync them together eventually, finding a projector with the right audio head is complicated especially since this audio isn't magnetic tape. Love the audio on that fresno one you shared though makes me want to do something myself with it. I can tell you it looks most like the NME show, however again it is not Mick isn't wearing a white turtleneck in mine. It must have been somewhere in America in 64. I can't say it's an audience shot, it is clearly a proshot of some sort. It has a documented feel to it, and not all of it is of the performance itself.

Andrews 27: Yeah I get how you mean now. I was under the impression you thought all of it sucked which struck me as odd momentarily haha
Yes Hal is a man that certainly knew what he was doing with his artistic visions. Seeing any concert in that light is preferable to me, and LSTNT is perfect when it comes to 80's stones. Hampton colosseum holds a special place as LSTNT's evil twin, in my eyes. But the energy which was captured just wasn't the same being that it was telivised and all that.
Wembley seems to have been filmed by a hammered gorilla but ya know, it can't always be perfect.

Back to L&G my print doesn't have the blackout screen you're speaking of, I agree that is unnecessary. The Eagle Rock DVD version is the same way and as many 100's of times I've seen it I think I've only sat through the blackout that leads to the silver tongue and wings logo about maybe 10 times.

I always skip it
