Seems likely they'll be playing there 2022, maybe for broadcast...

Jagger reads a passage from WH Auden:

Distance and duties divide us,
But absence will not seem an evil
If it make our re-meeting
A real occasion. Come when you can:
Your room will be ready.

His faux posh accent sounds like his dodgy acting. I just wish he would use his normal voice, it's much more powerful and distinct when he speaks normally. The guy has the most distinct voice out there with all kinds of kinds of interesting tones and inflections, he doesn't need to put on this affected  and trite sophistication.

LOL I was about to change it to "Hey Mick... Your faux posh accent sounds like your dodgy acting" and post it (probably crediting you LOL) in his account but declined

Mick didn't get to choose the Auden quote. He was simply asked to read it.

So he played the naughty schoolboy and used a silly accent to gently
send-up the pretentiousness of how they're handling this anniversary

If you were still in grade school, you would have gotten the joke immediately

LOL. If you had, I would be approached at the next gig by a couple burly toughs and asked to leave.

Marianne Faithful:

I remember going to a dinner with Wystan H. Auden.
In the middle of the evening Auden turned to me and, in a gesture
I assume was intended to shock me, said, "Tell me, when you travel
with drugs, Marianne, do you pack them up your arse?" "Oh, no,
Wystan," I said. "I stash them in my pussy."

This was the same dinner where the politician Tom Driberg tried to
convince Jagger to stand as a Labour candidate, punctuating his
offer by fondling Mick under the table.

Quite a few sources say that Bob Dylan ripped off Auden's poetry
repeatedly, including rhythms and verse structure...

And more than one source claims that Paint It Black was inspired by
Auden's Funeral Blues, especially the last verse...

So we know Jagger knew Auden...

And so now we know another reason why Mick read the poem that way...

Because thats more or less the way the poet himself would have read it...

(i think this highlights one big difference between me and most Stones fans.
When Mick does something off-putting, rather than immediately pulling out
my jealousy gun and shooting at him, my first instinct is "hmmm, i wonder what
Mick had in mind". Amazing how much i've learned that way)
