Seriously though I don't begrudge Jerry. After all she's just a good ol' gal from small town Texas, daughter of a truck driver and a librarian, who has managed to parley her talents and assets (such as they were or are) into a considerable position of wealth and power. Loathe him you may but Murdoch is a modern day Caeser.  So, fair play to her.

And while Murdoch came from a more privileged and opportune back ground he too managed to go from proprietor of an afternoon newspaper in Adelaide Australia to the King of world media and in doing so was often a supporter of under dog causes. In Adelaide in the 50s he championed the  cause for an aboriginal man convicted of raping and murdering a white girl who was thought by many to have been stitched up by the South Australian Police simply because he was black, which earned him the ire of the staid Adelaide establishment (and when it comes to staid establishments and having lived there most of my life there is , to paraphrase Nigel Tufnell, non more staid - though Melbourne's crowd are up there with the best of them). I also understand he helped the victims of the Thalidomide scandal by  promoting their cause and of course he upset no end of establishment apple carts when he bought The Times. Admittedly, though, you would have to say Murdoch's only real concern was profit and power but he was not always considered to be the establishment's man (or indeed the embodiment of the establishment) and was , in the past at least, thought to be something of a maverick.
