Are The Rolling Stones headed to the Las Vegas Strip?

By Robin Leach
Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016

Is Britain’s longest-reigning rock group headed to the Las Vegas Strip? I can reliably confirm that initial discussions have been held for The Rolling Stones to play the new T-Mobile Arena before year’s end.

Cuban and Spanish newspapers are reporting from President Raoul Castro’s inner circles that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts have a March 20-21 date, the same as President Barack Obama’s scheduled visit, in a 100,000-capacity Havana park.

Mick flew there last week to make an advance check of dance clubs and music cultural center in addition to touring the capital’s historic center. Even the official Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma covered his visit with photos of him dancing at the Shangri La club!

The DJ there played Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” for the 72-year-old rocker to dance with a group of female fans. Spain’s El Mundo newspaper reported that Keith has said that The Rolling Stones want to play in Cuba.

It would mark the end of The Rolling Stones’ Latin American tour, which currently wraps in Mexico City on March 17 after stops tonight and again Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil, March 2 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, March 6 in Lima, Peru, and March 10 in Bogota, Colombia.

AEG officials from Las Vegas flew to Rio de Janeiro last week to talk with the band about the possible Las Vegas dates. After landing in Bogota, The Rolling Stones get three days of rest to acclimatize themselves to the thin-air altitude at 8,661 feet above sea level.

Having been there several times, I can assure they will need the rest to be able to breathe properly while performing. Their Havana date may well be moved, but only slightly, because of President Obama’s plans to visit the communist dictatorship 227 miles from Miami now that trade restrictions are being lifted.

Cuban authorities do not want both first-time events to conflict on the same dates, as they want to score world media coverage for them separately. Something tells me that The Rolling Stones will slide rather than the president changing his schedule.

After the rock icons’ concerts, the discussions about a fall weekend of two, possibly three shows at T-Mobile Arena would become “very serious.” I was told that Mick and his three compatriots are “very open” to playing Las Vegas before year’s end and that AEG and MGM Resorts International, who run the concert bookings here, are ”ready to turn penciled dates into inked ones.”

This is great.  We are going to bash it in Vegas.  I'll see you guys there.  We are going to banshee.

See you guys there.  You can do any fucking thing you want in Vegas.  It's pro-freedom.  We should meet and bash, booze, drugs, Stones.  Okay.  Cool.

I'm not kidding, about 15 years ago, me and my buddy were loaded in Vegas one morning, and went up to this guy panhandling with a sign "Lost my cash gambling.  Help me get back to Phoenix."  The guy had that sign.  So anyway, we went up and asked him "you got any 'cid?" because he looked and acted like the kind of guy who could get some LSD.  The guy said "watch my stuff" and walked down an alley.  He came back a few minutes later with mondo hits of acid.  We did buy some, like 10 hits. We were only there for 4 days.

Okay, see you guys out in Vegas.  The last remnants of freedom and rugged individualism in America, the stuff that the Founding Father killed for, are alive in Vegas.

Don't do a Lamar Odom on us.

That would be the height of bad manners.

Las Vegas, one of my favorite cities! Yay!

Tips:
24hr bus that goes up and down the strip daily
http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/las-vegas-deuce.php

24hr access to buffet restaurants
https://www.caesars.com/las-vegas/buffet-of-buffets

The one thing, I have yet to do is the helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon and the Grand Canyon Skywalk, a glass walkway nearly 4,000 feet above the floor of the canyon!  Some day!

LOL...A buffet-finder...

Slight fluff piece as it is a Robin Leech article...

I mean...who really uses him as a source...

Anyway...no indication if this is a one-off of a couple of shows...a residency...or what may be part of another NA leg...

Either option is well with me. I see a one off to be easy enough as I think I read ( heard? made-up?) that the stage gear that is NOT leased is stored in the SW somewhere for NA use...Maybe even in a Vegas warehouse...who knows...I dont.

Personally I hate Vegas...but would consider sucking it up if I was able to grab a nice seat during a residency.

Never been to Vegas!

<-----HUH????

That's right lil' buddy….ol' nank has never stepped foot in Vegas, despite the checkered past.  Had a family member that RUNNOFT back in the 70s and hid out in Vegas.  Couple of my family members caught up to him years later.

Maybe me and the misses just needed the right excuse to go.

Stones.
Damn good one.

What's that?  Oh sure, here ya go….

JOEY?!!

You got to go to Vegas.  To see the Stones.  Vegas is great.  You can do anything you want in Vegas, bust stuff, get loaded, jump up and down, wear shorts.  They actually encourage debauchery and hedonism.  It's like some socio-cultural thing out there in the high plains desert.  Americans will have their last stand in Vegas, you will see the high water mark with the right set of eyes.

LOL! Really. Only in America hey? Help me! I'm fucking stacked to the gunwhales on acid. Hilarious. Trouble with hallucenogenics is sometimes you end up in some very scary places.

I was in Limbo, no seriously. In fucking dark, empty, hopeless Limbo for eternity. It was more like half an hour, I'd anethatised myself with fucking pure 10mg surgery ampule Ketamine. What a fucking dip-stick. Dr. Mofo to the rescue.
