I read Lester Bangs review on Ya Yas back in the 70s, and remember how he wrote that it may turn out to be their greatest record. He also wrote that in his opinion "They outdo every studio version", of the songs that were chosen to appear on the LP. Utter rubbish. Don't get me wrong, I love ya yas, always have since it was first released, but how on earth could he compare the live versions to the studio versions? Then as senility kicked in poor old has been Lester said in 1976, that Black And Blue was the first pointless(or some such expression), oh! That's right meaningless album they had ever produced. And thank God! It was a heavy load to bear; for all of us. What? I didn't notice the load. I cheerfully have been unaware of the weight since 1964. Black And Blue wasn't meant to be the fucking Magna Carta Lester. It's Only Rock 'n' Roll; or in this case, It's Sort Of Funk 'n' Roll. You can never top the original studio versions. I don't care whether you're Elvis, or Oasis.
