If you, like many folks, haven't yet bought tickets to the upcoming Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson double-bill at Champions Square on July 20, now's your chance. Live Nation Entertainment, the promoter of the tour, is running a special through June 7: Six tickets cost $66, plus service charges and fees, via Ticketmaster. That's 6-66. Get it?

Suffice to say, if such a promotion is necessary, tickets likely aren't flying out of the box office. To see two acts that headlined arenas in their '90s heyday, you're paying $11 per ticket – less than the typical cover charge at Frenchmen Street jazz bistro Snug Harbor.

Kid Rock, another '90s act past his prime, famously charges $20 for his summer tours. Such cheap tickets stand in contrast to the triple- and near-triple-digit prices most arena acts charge fans for the privilege of spending 90 minutes in their company. But Rock et al are not offering cut-rate deals strictly out of the goodness of their hearts: Without any current radio hits to spark sales, they hope rock-bottom prices help make tickets more attractive.

That said, the six tickets for $66 promotion is pretty extreme. Neither the Pumpkins nor Manson are the commercial forces they once were. They've teamed up for their 23-date The End of Times co-headlining summer tour not necessarily because they like each other – although Manson and Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan are supposedly buddies -- but to make for a more bankable package.

Manson is touring in support of his recent CD "The Pale Emperor," a comeback effort following several fallow years. The Smashing Pumpkins are hitting the road in support of the band's eighth studio album, "Monuments To A Elegy." Neither album will come anywhere close to matching the respective acts' most successful releases.

When tickets first went on sale for the Manson/Pumpkins concert at Champions Square, they were priced at $69.50 for reserved seats and $29.50 for general admission on the venue's broad back staircase.

Through Sunday, June 7 at 10 p.m., fans can buy six tickets for less than the price of a single reserved seat from the initial onsale. And yes, the span of the 6-for-$66 sale includes Saturday, June 6, aka 6-6.

Live Nation is offering the same 666 deal for its Slipknot and Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem tours, the latter of which features Slayer. It's apparently going to be a tough summer for hard rock on the road.

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef
