The legendary Rolling Stones are planning a huge return to Knebworth this summer.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood are set to play the massive venue and hope they can repeat their iconic 1976 gig.

Some 39 years ago the rockers played a 28-song set to more than 120,000 people with some fans saying it was their best ever.

According to the Sun the rockers are in talks to come back to Knebworth but want to avoid clashing with summer festivals.

Apparently Mick, Keith and Ronnie are up for doing the gig, but it's drummer Charlie who needs persuading.

A band source said: "Their last gig of the summer is July 15 in Quebec, so it gives them around a month or so before Knebworth to fine-tune everything.

"The band want to make sure they don’t clash with the bigger UK festivals so the most likely date they are throwing out there is August 15 — the Saturday before the V Festival.

"Nothing is a done deal yet. But if they pull it off it’ll be a huge gig."

Mirror Celebs have contacted reps for comment.

The usual rumor-mongering and "Charlie needs persuading."  LOL

I understand that Charlie has already booked a couple of weeks holiday in Butlin's around that time with Shirley and as he pre-paid up front to get a discounted rate, he doesn't want to lose his money if he cancels.

Hahahahahaha. What I love about this is that I am sure there are some people who will believe this. Even better is if a foreign journo gets a hold of this and publishes it as a "source close to the band."

I find this story a bit hard to believe, to be honest. Its pretty much came out of nowhere.

Wouldnt say its totally ridiculous or implausible, but the speculated date is just 11 weeks away, and in the UK thats generally a very short time frame to announce a show of that size - especially in a remote location.

Unless theyve suddenly decided to wind up touring for now, I'd have thought a stadium show like Wembley next year would have been more likely (its also been rumoured) - they can charge far higher prices for a gig like that and be tucked up in bed afterwards with their Ovaltines by 11 pm watching Match of The Day on BBC1.
