The Dead had 3 1/2 tours a year (fall, summer, spring, and Winter up till NYE)...98+% sold out...Stadiums, arenas, and amphitheaters...for a total of 2318 shows in front of 25 million fans (ok, occupied seats).

The Stones 26 million since 1980 (not including 50+counting, 14 on Fire, etc)
Career-wise the Stones have played about 2000 shows

As the cool kids say...Next time JFGI Ouch!

I would say they have. I tried to work it out a couple of years ago and reckoned that in their career to that point they had played to about 36 million people.

So give or take a million, I reckon about 37-38 million.

The Dead have played more shows as a band though as have countless solo artists.

The Stones have played just over 2,100 shows. Cant be arsed looking up a more precise figure. But the first 1,000 of those took place in the first five years of their career, with the 2,000th taking place in August 2006.

Meanwhile, Bob Dylan's "Never Ending Tour" which started in June 1988, chalked up show #2,657 at the end of last year. I reckon his bassplayer Tony Garnier has played on almost 2,600 of 'em.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra still tours, so we may have to re-think this.
