Rolling Stones Gear Book
…Coming February 4th, 2014

Rolling Stones Gear – All The Stones Instruments From Stage To Studio.

...

The official release date for the Rolling Stones Gear book is Tuesday February 4th, 2014. It’s taken 9 years to finish this mammoth 672-page book and I thank The Rolling Stones as well as the hundreds of people who helped make this historic document possible. The book is now available for preorder on Amazon or at your favorite bookseller.

Overview

ROLLING STONES GEAR is the first book to historically document all of the Rolling Stones’ musical equipment. It’s also the story of The Rolling Stones, but with a new twist: their history as told through the instruments they used. The book covers not only the group’s personal background, but also every tour and studio session from their inception in 1962 to date, with detailed documentation illustrating what instruments and equipment were used during these periods. Every song recorded by the band, including demos and out-takes are also documented, with input from within the Stones’ ranks as well as from people who were involved with the band. The lavishly illustrated book contains hundreds of photographs and rare images, many of which have never been published, including The Rolling Stones’ actual guitars and equipment, which were specially photographed for this book and are seen for the first time. Whether you are a musician, a Stones fan or just the casual reader, you will learn many new facts about the band from their monumental fifty-year existence.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The shows over the last couple of years probably caused the delay -- more new gear.

Like the tele Keith was playing a bit this last tour -- blonde with rosewood fingerboard -- '67 maybe.

When did he start using that?

Just think if this guy had tried to inventory all The Who's gear over the years.

Its fascinating that the instruments have been documented. I thought they play different guitars for different songs to get a different sound but I didn't realize there is a whole history to it! Can old guitars be as good as new guitars, meaning technology has improved so much over the years, do they get outdated and put up on the shelf?

... do they get outdated and put on the shell?
To most, at least for the guitarists, it's the opposite.
The golden era you can say starts in the early 50ies,
e.g. Fender Broadcaster, Telecaster, mid 50ies Strats, Gibson P90 Jrs. Specials and Gold Tops,
1957/'58/'59/'60 Les Paul and ES humbucker guitars etc. to name just a few.
Some of today's reissues are very good, yes. But I'd always prefer the real deal from that era
over the new ones and so do most guitarists. At least when they can afford it.

It's About the same for the Drums
at least the shells
Heads need to be replaced and hardware, stands, mounts and rims
need to be maintained and/or replace
.
BUT if it's a nice Maple shell say 5 to 6 ply it was good in the 50's and the 40's It's better than the current shells.
ie Charlie set for the Stones and his jazz set.
