Kelly Thomas, was a homeless mentally ill man who was beaten and killed by a group of Fullerton police officers.  Two of those officers were acquitted in court today.

I don't understand.  Any rational human being who views the video footage can clearly see that the officers abused their power!

P.S.  Ironically, Kelly Thomas' father is a retired police officer, and he is now suing the Fullerton Police Department for the death of his son.

What I don't understand is if he really loved his son, how could he allow him to be homeless and hungry.  Why not bring him home? Clean him up?  Feed him?  Try to get him the medical help he needed?  Some counseling.  There is no cure for schizophrenia, but with proper treatment many patients have gone on to live happy productive lives.

This case makes me ill as well.  Unfortunately with our jury system a juror has to have either not heard of the case or not read/heard enough about the case to form an opinion prior to being placed on the jury.  In high profile cases, and this is just the latest example of this, it is nearly impossible to find truly qualified jurors who haven't heard enough about the case to form an opinion.  So the pool gets narrowed down to folks who can't be bothered learning about what goes on in the world around them - at least what is beyond their own nose.
