Rolling Stones 50 and Counting Reunion Show!

Did anybody else catch the Rolling Stones
50 and Counting Reunion Show on TV yesterday? Two
hours of nothing but the greatest Rolling Stones
collaborators and kindred spirits. For a while I thought
I was watching a preview of the upcoming Stones Grrr DVD.

There was of course the three biggest stars of the 50
and Counting tour: Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Katy
Perry. And as if that wasn't enough, they also brought
back a star from the Stones golden age: Justin
Timberlake.

To add to the fun, there was an appearance from Ronnie
Wood's young proteges, One Direction, and a song especially
penned by Bruno Mars to honor the essence of the 50 and
Counting tour, "Gorilla", and a homage to StarFucker
from the one and only Miley Cyrus (Yes, I am old enough
to remember Mick Jagger offering his ass to his audience
in 1975)

I just want to express my gratitude to MTV, who I thought
didn't care about music anymore, for honoring the Stones
with this very special special!

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef

actually i was more heckling the Grrr stones

but also the VMAs. bruno mars at the VMAs...

...

and his recent post-Grrr album cover

...

and I actually like Bruno Mars, although he was awful at
the VMAs. but I saw a vid of him and his band kicking
ass at a club show in Paris. there are a lot of immensely
talented young musicians in the bands that back these
pop stars, but we're in an era where young audiences
generally don't want to know about anything but the
front person.

It took the Beatles to break us out of our last stardom
trance and put collaboration front and center, where it
remained, thanks mostly to the Stones, until Michael
Jackson and Madonna took over.

How we're gonna break the spell this time remains to be seen.
