A few Bit torrents, Dime A Dozen etc. questions

Alert Board Moderator about this Post!
Forgive me if these are some basic questions but about 7-8 years ago I used to download torrents a lot. I haven't done so in about 5 years. The main reason was the last computer I used while doing this got infected with all sorts of viruses. So now I'm looking to get back into this again but would like to try to avoid the experience of destroying another computer. Are any of these sites safer-better then others? Rocks Off has its own tracker correct? Dime a Dozen seems very popular too. Any other? Any fees associated with any of these? Which sites are the best for the Stones?

Again, I apologize if I missed this info somewhere else. Thanks in advance!

if you're on a P{C avoid The pirate bay… but DAD , hungercity and sites that only do bootlegs are much safer than pirated or illegal sites.

Thanks. I'm on a PC. Is Dime free to sign up for? How does one tell the difference between a legal and illegal site? I thought all torrents were technically illegal?

You shouldnt have any problems with the file sharing torrent sites in terms of viruses, etc

Best ones for bootlegs are dimeadozen.org and HungerCity.org and thetradersden.org. Dime is the biggest and busiest by some distance.

Filesharing these recordings isnt illegal. Some artists dont allow their boots to be shared on them (and the sites have a  list of 'banned' artists for that reason) but the Stones aren't one of them.

Membership is free.

We did have a tracker on this site a few years ago which was the only one on the web exclusive for Stones torrents, but we discontinued it due to the fact that there weren't enough people using it on a regular basis to make it worth the host's (originally Macdaddy and later Charlotte) time to keep it active.

Dime is usually full but if you keep checking back a new sign up opportunity usually will appear. Good luck

by illegal, I mean commercially released… adn all the sites i know of are free, none you mentioned cost money…
Read the faq on DaD, they will explain their policy. They go as far as, if you have an aud. recording of a show that has a song released on a live album for sale, they will make you remove that track… they will not allow anything official on there...

Pdog, why do you say that? I use the Pirate Bay all the time, especially for TV shows since I'm outside the U.S. I know it leaves tracking cookies, but I just run an anti-spyware program once a day to get rid of them.  Is there more I should be worried about?

Hey guys-I downloaded a great torrent last night-the only problem is the files are FLAC and I want to import them into iTunes to put them on my iPod. Anyone know an easy way of doing this ( I know the format has to change). Also, I couldn't get the FLACs to even play-what player would you use to play them?

One other thing, the torrent I downloaded was from thetraderden. I signed up for dimeadozen but every torrent I clicked on gave me an error message somewhere along the lines of "torrent not valid due to bencoded" .  What does that mean? I'm using uTorrent to pull in the files.

Thanks again!

play stuff in VLC.....everything plays in that (download at VLC.org make sure it matches your system).
xAct is a great easy to use convert to downscale FLACs so they play in iTunes.

I use the program, Traders Little Helper, to convert flac files to .wav files...its a free program. Since Pirate Bay aquired new ownership in 2010 I haven't had any problems with virius's there.

that may be the answer, It was known for having maleware and virus problems… they also use banner ads to porn sites, so make sure your wife knows it's just for music, mine was laughing at me, since she knew… but otherwise, it looked bad!!!

Hey guys things are going good but on both dimeadozen and hungercity I can't download any torrents and it always says "not valid bencoding". Any ideas?

dadrob,
I'm using uTorrent. I'm assuming that's the client correct? Should I change to a different one?
