Mick Jagger: 'Rolling Stones to go on hiatus after tour'

WENN.COM

First posted: Thursday, July 04, 2013

The Rolling Stones will go on hiatus after their upcoming gigs in London's Hyde Park so the veteran rockers can enjoy a well-deserved break after months of touring.

The band spent two months on the road in North America before wrapping up the 50 & Counting shows in Washington, D.C. on June 24 and heading back to Britain for a landmark performance at Glastonbury festival.

They will conclude their gigs with two massive shows in London's Hyde Park on July 6 and 13, and frontman Sir Mick Jagger has revealed they will be taking a period of time off after wrapping the final concert.

Speaking to Pete Mitchell of Britain's Absolute Radio station, the official radio partner for Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park, Jagger says, "It'll be fun... (we are looking) forward to doing these two shows in Hyde Park, the last two shows of... this tour so we're gonna make them the best we can... Maybe there'll be things beyond that, but right now this is the summer then we have a bit of a break."

However, Jagger is adamant fans should not give up hope of new music from the band, adding, "I'm always writing new songs so hopefully we'll do new songs one of these days soon."

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef

21 shows in 2 months for the first time in 6 years and they're taking a hiatus? It took them 2 years to decide what to do for the 50th anniversary tour. Once the machine gears down. It gears back up very slowly.

Oh don't think for one second they don't have the Fall schedule in the works.

I like the way they are doing this.

Two months of shows; a break and then more.

I have faith.

three months off is just a bit of a break. Its not uncommon for them to do that in a middle of a lengthy tour.

The days of the Stones doing 80 shows a year or so are gone.

Thankfully.

Doing this way reduces the risk of burnout and lengthy gaps between tours.

Also gives them time to work on more creative setlists................Oh wait. War horses couldn't drag me away

That ship has long sailed, as we all know.

in fairness, 58 songs in 20 shows is pretty good going.

It just seems less because 17 songs of the (on average) 20 that Mick sings each night have been played at 90-100% of those shows, Keith sings 2 out of a playlist of three and there's usually only a 3 song window (four at a push)  for the remaining 35-40 songs - most of them only played once or twice.

after europe, whatever else they do, the pattern is usually to revisit the USA too… I'm holding out hope they add NYC, ATL, Miami, Denver, Phoenix and romp thru Texas… they can hit St. Louis or some other markets as well, that they haven't bled dry… I'm holding out hope, and hoping Mick reads this and thinks of me specifically…
