RIP Mark Fisher.
Didn't he also do the '74 Bowie Diamond Dogs theatrical staging too? which was the first of it's kind, ground breaking in fact.
Maybe it was another Fisher I'm thinking about.

Jules Fisher was responsible for the lighting on that tour, I believe. Probably a bit before Mark's time. His first 'big name' stage design was Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' tour in 1980.

He started working with the Stones on the Steel Wheels tour in 1989. He really had no equal in his field.

RIP.

Mark Fisher - who was a splendid fellow - can be seen several times on one of the 'Four Flicks' DVDs, most memorably dealing with the anality/perfectionism of Charlie W (who has the final vote on Stains' visual decisions) and MJ.
Fisher can be heard saying something like "Once you get going [changing things] we'll be here all fuckin' night".

Fisher made grand contributions to the Stains. He was sort of the Albert Speer to MJ's Hitler and Keith's Göring.

Wot-da-fuk ...? Wow, Mark Fischer is ....dead?? How? Was he sick? He was the greatest stage designer to date. His stages were amazing... and fitting. Futuristic but with character and even a slight sense of traditionalism at the same time. Just an amazing talent and artist/engineer. Stones tours were what they were since 89 largely because of his imagination, intellect, and innovation. That says quite a lot.

It indeed is an end of an era. I don't think he designed their most recent set on 50 and counting did he? If not...who did?

RIP Mark Fischer ... (still stumped and unpleasantly surprised at this news).

Ian

The article says he died in a Marie Curie Hospice which means that he had cancer.

I'm pretty sure he designed the stage for the recent tour.

From RS.COM:

We are all extremely saddened to hear of the death of our dear friend Mark Fisher. The remarkable sets he designed for us over the last two decades played a major part in the success of all those tours. His passion, dedication and professionalism was infectious.

We all loved his dry sense of humour and unflappable demeanour, a quietly soft spoken genius.

Mark will be sorely missed – not only by us, but by every single member of ours, and any crew he worked with.

Our sincere condolences go to his wife and family.
