I was actually sitting in a section last night that SAT thru Keith's set.  I was fuming and muttering obscenities under my breath!

"But I must say, the exact moment Taylor came in with those first few notes of his solo...I thought I was dreaming.  I had never experienced that at a show before.  I was hypnotized and completely in a different place.  Taylor, that solo, and the Stones were meant to fucking be.  Like I said earlier, I was literally in a daze after he left the stage.  I could not concentrate worth a damn for the next few songs.  I was useless.  I was hungover from CYHMK.  Man, I'd love to relive that again."

Hopefully, Justin, you'll relive it through one of our eyes when they hit Chicago, then the East Coast.
What a great day to be a Rolling Stones fan!!!
I picture luxury and GotToRollMe enjoying the jam together and sharing a high five.  Cool

will ya 2  Are you fucking serious?  really?  taylor made smile  Ouch!

Here's my video of...

Can't You Hear Me Knocking

I'm not sure but at around 6:51 when Mick goes and says something to Keith, I think Keith says: I'll have him. It was just one of those legendary shows that will go down in rock'n'roll history. It was that good and I feel so lucky to have been there.

Incidentally, Mick Taylor has been absolutely killing Can't You Hear Me Knocking for years at his solo gigs. I've seen him play some amazing stuff on his own as well. But for now, no more alone stuff please: BRING HIM BACK FULL TIME.

dude ain't slimming for nothing, he is pacing himself. Once he fits in he will get in.

My section totally died during All Down The Line and never recovered.

During Midnight Rambler I heard a harmonica blast that just sounded totally off. Turns out the dude next to me was playing along. I moved.

Totally weird, crazy random moment long after the show. I was walking in downtown with my friends and right on the sidewalk on Olympic between Figueroa and Flower something catches my eye.

It's a guitar pick. Unmistakeable KISS logo. On the other side the Gene Simmons sig. And another one. And another one. 4 total.

How the hell do 4 KISS pics end up on the sidewalk like that?

What the hell?

Was a major KISS fan right up til the 1996 reunion which just makes it all even stranger.

How that's for a review? Maybe I will just let the music speak for itself this time. Get home in about 4 hours, keep your ears peeled.

At the risk of being a smidgeon of a party-pooper here, or at least of sounding a smidgeon of a note of caution, but.... I do hope The Stains don't become a band of endless histrionic scaley solos by the end of this tour.
I'm all for varying and switching up the set-list (and preferably in a way that ranges across the 50+ years) and I love the odd waddling solo - albeit preferably a good slidey Ronnie solo - but, to me at least, the beauty of The Stains exists in the 'air' they leave / allow between the instruments / each other, and their blend of brevity and bounce.

When Jagger is standing next to Ronnie literally WAITING for Taylor to get to the main groove of his solo....you're watching the real Mick Jagger.  Not the performer who's up there posing, making a face or snarling at the audience...you're watching a guy who's up there with his band, and being COMPLETELY in the moment.  You can clearly see Jagger is anxious for Taylor to wrap it up and while Taylor is going nuts on his fretboard, Jagger has got nothing to do except wait for him.  He shares a few laughs with Ronnie and Keith and waits it out, clapping his hands and just listening to the music---something he almost never does on stage anymore.  At one point you can even see him mouth the "Ba da da DAH dah" part as if trying to remind Taylor to wrap it up...for a quick second he almost looks a bit worried (it makes you wonder if THIS was what Jagger feared all along by giving Taylor more songs: long meandering solos?).  The exact second Taylor comes in with that little groove, Jagger turns the "performer" button on again and begins being Mick Jagger again....moves about the stage, clapping to the crowd and pointing and the whole nine yards.  Fascinating as hell.  And fuckin cool!

Thanks for posting Justin...this dude right here just got some goosebumps during Taylor's first few outro notes at 4 pm on a Tuesday. Love it and I hope they add Taylor for other surprises..i.e. Time Waits For No One, Dead Flowers, heck, let 'em bring him onstage for Sympathy '69 style! I could go on for hours, but I'll say that even if I never see a YT clip of MT again, I am pretty satisfied with these 12/13 gigs.

I'm not sure it's for anyone to say what/who/which the real MJ is, swee' Justin.
I'm not sure there's anything particularly special about the moment (which you mentioned) of his concern/anticipation; in the sense that the Stains' interplay always seems lovely and special to me (albeit more subtle usually). MJ seems, to me, to be doing this sort of thing all the time. He's the singer and orchestra-leader, shirley, and he's presumably accepting of a bit of extended-wanking but keen there isn't too much of it, and that structure is balanced with playfulness.

Someone, I think said that MJ 'got a bit lost' or anxious or something later in the show yesterday. If I'm not mistaken, could someone please elaborate / expatiate on this?

I know you don't mean to make too much hay of this, but others will, alas. You're appreciating the off-the-cuff-ness, on-the-edge-ness, which is great. The skeptics are desperately looking for evidence that Mick hates Keith, Keith hates Mick(s), etc. Truth is--as I'm sure you can relate--moments like that are what being in a band is all about. I've seen Bruce looking at Nils during "Youngstown" and "Because the Night," wondering when, and hoping he will, wrap it up soon. If necessary, Jagger is classy enough to privately tell Taylor to keep it tight. Taylor will happily oblige. All will be well.

It was a great night, Bluz!

Thank you LadyJane! Just revisiting the moment by watching the other videos, I can't explain the release of joy once the final note of CYHMK was played.  I was really surprised that I found myself so emotional but it was as if a huge weight had been lifted.  Apparently, this was what I needed but never knew it!  The roar of the crowd explained it all.  We were really touched to have them share that with us.

All good points.  The fact is I thought it was refreshing to see Mick almost without control for those few moments.  He tried to steer the ship a certain direction but the tides were way too strong for him.  It was, for me, something I had never really seen before and was very entertained by!  Because I as well felt like I was going along for the ride and not knowing where Taylor was going.  For a small moment, things were legitimately unpredictable.

It may have been me who mentioned MJ being a little anxious.  But not without good reason, there were a huge chunk of new songs in the set and everyone was on their toes. But mainly, the huge traffic jam on "One More Shot" seemed to have left a bad taste in his mouth for the rest of the show.  After that train wreck, Mick seemed to have been unsure about simple changes in songs like "Tumblin Dice" or "Sympathy For The Devil", needing assurance from Chuck that he was singing the correct parts or even on pitch.  I specifically recall a moment when Mick was confused about when Ronnie's solo came in during "Start Me Up."  He was giving some points and cues even though it was way too early in the song.  He and Ronnie shared a laugh about it.  I also recall at one point Mick making a face in frustration  as he turned over to Chuck for a nod of approval, and Chuck wasn't looking up to give him one.  In fact, I noticed a lot of times when Mick turned to Chuck and Chuck was playing, head down, focused on his work--which I thought was weird because he always made himself available for direction and guidance for all the members throughout each song.  At times, Chuck seemed to almost ignore Mick for extra help.  But I do no mean that in a negative connotation.  It looked to me as if Chuck was handing them back the trust to  work things out on their own.  Just my own observation and opinion there.

I know what you mean.  I've been in those situations--which is why I sympathized with MJ a little bit---but that didn't mean I wasn't enjoying the hell out of it!

Hopefully MJ doesn't tell him to shorten it, almost every performance of this song on the Licks tour clocked in at 10 minutes when Ronnie took the solo.  Last night's performance came in at about 8 minutes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vtILjo26ew

...and that was the case even when "Rambler" was in the set which was another 10 minute tune.

Take another look and you'll see that the uploader pulled a fast one.  That's footage from last night's "Satisfaction" and then he overdubbed it with audio of a live version of JJF.  You can see Keith clearly playing the Les Paul jr there as opposed to his Fender, capo on 4.

The uploader says in the info section:  (apologies for the audio sync... Blackberries really aren't made for quality video recording)
