Thrilled to see ER remains in the set.
Will we ever see MT do more than ONE song?? UK fans will in Hyde Park but USA??? Not sure.

I've yet to be convinced that we will. I doubt we'll get anything different than the US.

In fact, whilst I expect Taylor to play at the three UK dates, as far as I recall, there wasn't any mention of him when our shows were announced. Unlike the American tour.

I think a lot of people were persuaded to pony up those high prices because of Mick's involvement in the tour. It was a good way of attracting lapsed fans. Seriously - how fucking difficult would it be to let him play on about three songs?

Can only assume that he's getting the same treatment that Bobby Keys related to in his book when he said that the amount he gets paid per show depends on how many songs he plays on. And as we know, this tour is being run on a very tight budget and profits are already minimal.  Roll Eyes

"All Down The LIne" is also up from the same poster---(thanks!)

It's a fun one.  Mick is having a ball.  Pretty cool to see him enjoying the tune:

God they sound good. Ronnie is on fire!

Half (11 songs) of last night's setlist comes from the 1969-74 era. Yet they choose to use him on one song.

Rolling Stones Feature Tom Waits on 'Little Red Rooster'
Gravel-voiced singer joins rockers onstage at Oakland show

The Rolling Stones had hinted at the possibility of a few surprises on their "50 and Counting" tour, and they produced one last night when Tom Waits joined them onstage to sing "Little Red Rooster" at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The rockers dug into the blues classic, which appeared on their 1965 album The Rolling Stones, Now! A minute into the song, Waits emerged from the background, taking control of the mic and adding his unmistakable gritty growl.

The Rolling Stones Offer Plenty of Surprises in Los Angeles Tour Kickoff

The Stones' tour continues May 8th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. They kicked off the outing May 3rd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where guests included Keith Urban and Gwen Stefani.

Love the Tom Waits appearance. Thats how it's done.

As for MT: I can live with the fact that he doesn't play on every song, but just the one (and apparently always the same) song sends the wrong message. I'll be in heaven when the Stones decide to tour mainland Europe somewhere later this year WITH the master and I'll enjoy the 10 or so minutes he plays along, but there will be a voice in the back of my head saying 'there's a GREAT guitar player backstage probably more than willing to throw in some extra weight...

Oh well...for now I'll even be happy with just a European Tour. I'll even buy a ticket if they swap MT for Dave Matthews (just kidding...please don't!)

Two years ago, if someone had suggested the Stones would actually tour with Mick Taylor again,
and that Tom Waits would be a guest star at a show, I would've thought they were crazy.

Sure there are still things to kvetch about - what the hell's the deal with dropping "Love In Vain"
after the club show?? - but there are still amazing things happening. I'm more psyched than I
have been in years.

It's all over the press, with headlines like "Rolling Stones $600 tickets gather moss."

Look's like Keith's famous quote that he'd play in public till people people didn't want to hear him anymore, at which point he'd go back to playing at the top of the stairs where he started, might be coming true.

Oh no! not you again

At $85 a pop, if the sell 17k to 25k in an arena, that still is around $2 million… only a tard accountant would fuck up a profit… now if the only reason to tour was money, and more money than before… this isn't happening. This isn't a not for profit deal, but they knew going in, this isn't about making money either. Bottom line, there's no great bottom line for the band, this isn't an altruistic adventure either, but they are making money and creating an economy for a few hardworking people. They could have just done nothing...

In fairness, Tom Waits has probably never appeared at a concert attended by 20,000 or at a concert shown worldwide as a pay per view event.

So, I think you've done OK.

Incidentally, I may have missed this - was there a fan vote choice for Oakland? Was it 'Dead Flowers' ?

ROCK subculture

Quote:
...  Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood.  The Rolling Stones.  Synonymous with rock and roll.  They rocked Oracle Arena in Oakland, California last night for two and a half hours.  There were more people than seats (more on that later) and (mostly, well initially) very expensive seats at that (and more on that later too), but it was a remarkable night to witness one of the most (and last standing) legendary rock bands of all time plow through 23 songs.  Sure, some will point out some occasional sloppiness, but I always heard a bit of that in their studio recordings.  It’s the Rolling Stones.  They more than make up for some lack of precision and complexity with enthusiasm, and Mick Jagger has moves like, well, him.  He possessed fans in the audience of all ages who mimicked his moves with pure glee.  And really, any time Keith Richards did much of anything, the two 52-year old women sitting to my right could barely contain themselves.  I quizzed them about this deep into the set, between songs, and one of them said, “the fact that he’s still alive and standing there is nothing short of a miracle”.   Some miracles are self evident, and others are in the eye of the beholder.  I think one’s take on the show last night is likely more about and reflective of each person as much as it is the show itself.  Each person’s connection with the Stones and what they mean to him or her.  Given the reactions from the crowd, I would guess a majority found it nothing short of miraculous, and certainly unforgettable.
