The Stones should do a show at The Catalyst in Downtown Santa Cruz!

It is a tiny club, but a lot of big names have played there before.  Including Pearl Jam, John Lee Hooker, Tracy Chapman, Julieta Venegas . . .

(Plus, I used to know someone that worked there.  And, if he still works there, maybe he can sneak me in through the back and I can finally meet the band!  Yay!)

Neil Young has played some amazing shows there down the years. And there's an absolutely stunning Ry Cooder gig from it in 1987 on You Tube.

Are the lyrics clues to the set list?

As some of them are warhorses, then probably...

However, the band havent even started rehearsing yet - theyre not all in the US - so I doubt any of them know what they're even having for lunch tomorrow, let alone what they're going to playing a month from tomorrow.

Couple of queries, any indication as to the Hyde Park prices and how have people found Hyde park gigs in the past, can you hear/ see well enough?

I am prepared to pay circle prices but a friend of mine wants to come and can probably only afford a general admission ticket i.e £60/£70, so I'll be limited to general admission. If thats the case is it worth me going or is an outdorr gig only worth it if your right up close? I paid a lot for an 02 seat in the rafters but at least the view and sound were pretty good.

I dare not ask on IORR as it seems to be a touchy subject.

I saw social distortion play there, probably in 1997….

I've always heard great things about the Catalyst. Unfortunately still haven't made it there for a show.

It's the Stones, so price-wise, all bets are off.

The Bon Jovi show (with Kaiser Chiefs and Bush as openers) on 5th July has GA tickets at £65, a Gold Circle Pass at £100 and a Diamond Circle Pass (now sold out) which was for something like £295. I cant remember.  This was the area closest to the stage. They have various hospitality packages which give you access to either the VIP grandstand seats or the Diamond Circle which are going from £325 to £495.00.

You can bet that the Stones will not be too shy about milking the diamond circle and hospitality packages for higher amounts if they can.

I've been to Hyde Park Calling in June 2009 when Neil Young headlined on the Saturday and Springsteen on the Sunday. It was a really good, well organised festival and you could stand where you want - there was none of this elitist nonsense. They did have seating to the sides as I recall, though. I think there were maybe 70,000 tickets available for each gig. Tickets were about £50 per day I think. Sound was fine, but then again I was relatively near the front. As you may recall, there were huge complaints last year after the Springsteen gig when people said the sound wasnt loud enough and then the music was cut off as the gig went over the 10.30 pm curfew. Its still a residential area, but even so, its a pretty ludicrous set of restrictions for a Saturday night.

I should mention that the Hyde Park shows now take place in the east corner of the park - ie near Hyde Park Corner/Park Lane/Marble Arch. I think the 1969 show took place much further into the park - hence the bigger crowds as well as the trees that seem to be in the way of much of the audience!

A friend of mine met Bill Wyman at his exhibition here's the chat he had with him:

6.45pm to 8.30pm was the closing party for 'Bill Wyman---Reworked' at Rook And Raven Gallery,7 Rathbone Place,London W1.
As expected the closing night did not have the buzz of that amazing opening night i went to on 26 Feb which was attended by Bill Wyman and family,Mick Hucknall,Chris Rea,Mitch Winehouse, legendary photographer Terry O'Neill,Mark Knopfler,Twiggy,Pattie Boyd and random sightings of two football managers with Roy Hodgson(England) and Alan Pardew(Newcastle United).
Complimentary beers here for all.
Bill Wyman and his wife are here.Last time he was busy with celeb friends and photographers but tonight is much more relaxed as he signs stuff and poses for photos.
We have a nice few words with him too.
Us--'Will you be joining The Stones at Glastonbury?'
Bill--'I will 100% per cent be playing Glastonbury'
Us--'That will be great'
Bill---'Not with The Stones but I will be playing with The Rhythm Kings'
Us---'You still a bit peeved The Stones only asked you to join them for two songs at The 02 Arena gigs?'
Bill---Yep i should been involved a bit more'.
Us---'Would you play with them at Glastonbury if they asked?'.
Bill---'Not bothered,they can fuck off'.
Exhibition continues to 30 March 2013.

Mick Taylor hopeful of joining The Rolling Stones onstage at Glastonbury

Former guitarist keen to perform with band on The Pyramid Stage

...

Mick Taylor says he is hopeful that he will be able to get up and play with The Rolling Stones when they headline Glastonbury in June.

As confirmed last week, the legendary band will headline the Saturday night of the festival on a bill which also includes headliners Arctic Monkeys and Mumford & Sons. When The Rolling Stones performed in London at the end of 2012 they played with a number of guest stars including Florence Welch, Mary J Blige and former guitarist Taylor.

Speaking to The Sun about the Somerset festival, Taylor said playing with Mick Jagger "would be great", adding: "I really didn’t think they’d be touring again. But I hoped they’d want to re-create some of the music from my days in the band. It would be a big noise, I tell you."

However, Taylor was not completely sure the band would be able to find room for him during their set. "Having said that, the last time I saw them play live from the crowd was at Wembley Stadium six or seven years ago and to me it seemed that they hardly played anything from the '70s or indeed the '60s."

The Glastonbury line-up as it stands is:

White; Riot Jazz

The Park Stage

Cheers Gazza  Smiley It sounds as if I'll be alright with general admission. The July 14th date falls a day before my 21st so It'll be a good way to celebrate.

Stones returning to stage: Why should we care?

By DAVID BAUDER | Associated Press – 27 mins ago

With Wednesday's expected announcement of a new Stones tour, those words will again signal the start of a rock 'n' roll show. Young music fans may wonder why there's still a fuss over dad's, or grandpa's, favorite band. Here are five reasons to care.

1. LIVING HISTORY: Elvis Presley is dead. The Beatles will never perform again. The Who is down to two originals. Membership of rock's Greatest Generation is fading. The Stones, Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney are links to a special time in music history, and you can still see them in concert. If the Stones' form of classic rock moves you, it's hard to conceive of a band today building such an impressive catalog in the same style. Fashion, and the business, has moved on.

2. LIVE BAND: They'll never admit it, but deep down the Stones surely know they haven't made memorable new music in decades. They have, however, kept their chops and deliver the songs you want to hear with power and precision. You can't find a better Stones tribute band. The Stones are fully aware of their best work; you won't hear a flabby show. The past few times out, it has been more than greatest hits performed on autopilot.

3. KEITH RICHARDS: There was a time, kids, when Keith was a menace to society, a walking advertisement of the evils of drugs. Now he's a beloved figure, humanized by one of rock's best biographies and the model for Johnny Depp's Capt. Jack Sparrow character in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series. He's your cool, crazy uncle. He plays a pretty decent guitar, too.

4. CHARLIE'S FACE: There's no better facial expression in rock 'n' roll than the bemused one worn by drummer Charlie Watts as he takes in the madness around him. Watch Watts when Mick Jagger does a particularly audacious chicken strut.

5. THE LAST TIME: We'll be surprised if this is labeled as some sort of retirement tour; they've been subjected to so many age jokes over the years that the topic itself is old. And these men are in surprisingly good shape for the years of hard living. But Richards is 69, and Mick reaches that age this summer. Watts will be 72 in June. Reality is catching up. Probably even before they expect it, they'll be singing "The Last Time" for the last time.

Rolling Stones set to announce more UK gigs in summer tour which could rake in £40m

3 Apr 2013 00:32
Fans, especially ones with deep pockets, will be delighted to hear the rock legends are going on the road again, with some dates in Britain

http://i3.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article1457526.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/The%20Rolling...
Back: Rolling Stones at the O2 last year
PA

The Rolling Stones are rocking all the way to the bank with a new tour that could land them £10million each.

But fans are again expected to pay through the nose to see the pop veterans, with some reports claiming tickets may cost up to £330.

Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts will pick up around £650,000 a show from the summer tour.

The band are already booked in for June’s Glastonbury festival – and many thought that would be their last outing.

But followers, especially ones with deep pockets, will be delighted to hear the rock legends are going on the road again, with some dates in Britain.

A source close to the band insisted any UK dates would not price out all fans, with suggestions some tickets would be available for £95 which is “cheaper than Madonna”.

The insider added: “Some of the tour tickets are going to be costly but this is the biggest band in the world.

“There will be dates which will suit all pockets.”

The band started rumours of a tour on Good Friday when they posted a mysterious message on their official website.

It read “Five days and counting..” and had a link to a live clip from their comeback dates at the end of last year.

Billboards emblazoned with Start Me Up and other song titles alongside the Stones’ signature tongue logo also cropped up around America, with heavy hints on their Twitter account.

Loyal fans were left dismayed when the band announced standing tickets for the band’s O2 gigs in London last November would cost £375.

The cheapest available – and far from the stage at the giant venue – were £95 and the most expensive, VIP hospitality, went for £950.

Back then, guitarist Ronnie Wood defended the sky-high prices.

The 65-year-old said: “We’ve already spent a million on rehearsing in Paris. And the stage is going to be another few million. And the lights.

“We feel no bad thing about ticket prices. We’ve got to make something.”

But fans who want to see another rock legend, Bruce Springsteen at Hard Rock Calling in East London this June, will only have to fork out £69.75.

I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

How many times have I done this now?
Sat around thinking of getting tickets to a Stones show.
'81, '89, '94, '97, '99, '02, '05....

What will the final dates be?
How close are the shows to one another?
Can I swing 3 shows?
Maybe 4 this time if there is one in DC?
What works with my work schedule, my financial situation, fellow mutants.
So many variables dumped in the tongue-shaped hopper to consider.

I probably won't sleep well tonight.
Especially if I count sheep...

This is what makes me a mutant.

I have 9 million thoughts and fears running through my head, just like Nanker.

Will I be lucky enough to purchase tickets? That is the main question for me.

Ticketmaster's website is terrible.

Apparently Staples is thru Axs tickets now, so we can learn a new interface on the fly, if that's in fact where the LA shows are going to be.

I am trying for the cheapest tickets possible for several shows, and apparently those are the hardest to get these days.

Mick's Twitter feed says that 9AM eastern USA time is when they release the news.
