I will be seeing them next month. First time seeing them that I won't be GA (my wife isn't into standing for over 3 hours).

They always put on a good show....except maybe for Las Vegas....then again, that was a show in itself Nolte - The Rocks Off patron saint

Fogerty is a part of that it seems, and Grohl is in Austin too...

I have to admit, I actually like "Uno!" and "Dos!" from the new trilogy. "Tre!" is OK, but I've only listened to it once.

They kind of lost me around "21st Century Breakdown" (and some of "American Idiot")--I like when they have fun. I still go to "Insomniac" once in a while. I still regret not going to their show when I went to Lollapalooza in 2010--I watched Phoenix instead. I heard/read Green Day's set was pretty stellar.

It's all a matter of personal taste. Phoenix writes songs that sound like they don't understand English, personally I feel their sound is obnoxious, as for Green Day, while I love their old stuff, 21 Century Breakdown in my favorite record by them. Having seen 100's of bands live over the past 45 years, Green day's live performance ranks in the top 5.

Icona Pop is in Austin this week, you should go see them.

I saw about 5 mins of Green Day at Lolla 1994 then went and laid down in the poetry tent until it was time for L7.

definitely one of the best shows I have been to… they played over 2 hours, only off stage for a minute for the encore…
I got a bad video and worse pics to post…
They played so much old stuff, after playing a good amount of the new stuff, only do you know your enemy was played from 21st century breakdown. ended with american idiot stuff and played 5 songs from it at least. they played an hour of dookie and pre-dookie. billie even busted out old blue, a guitar he stopped playing b/c he thought it would get fucked up.
They did a hysterical medley that was basically shout shimmy, with a few songs like stand by me, hey jude thrown in the middle… billie can get the crowd to do anything, it's great. I was in tears laughing watching these kids sing along so intensely during hey jude, when billie did the soft scream part, I nearly dided… he is a combo of elvis/bono as far as capturing the crowd. he looked great, glad he went to rehab, he sucked at being just dry, and can't handle drugs, hope he found his power source… their best years are still in front of them… so funny as a band….
this is the opener, 99 revolutions, like i said pretty crappy, saw about a dozen people around me recording… I'm sure there's good vids of this on youtube. There was a pint when billie had been playing, he was leaning fwd, guitar sunk low, the lighting was dark and my angle like the pic and vid was looking down on him, truly stoic… it was very intense, like the london calling album cover… the real highlight was a girl onstage he was dancing and doing sign language, sounds cheesy, but I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff… she was so happy, they dragged about 3 kids onstage, who were so happy, one was def. crying.

SXSW 2013 review: Green Day delivers glorious night of music

There was really only conclusion to be made after watching Green Day perform on Friday night:
Billie's back.
Vocalist-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, whose substance abuse problems landed him in rehab and momentarily derailed his East Bay punk-pop band's career, was in herculean form during Green Day's showcase at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival.
His vocals were on spot. His guitar licks were sensational. And, most significant, he was back to being the charismatic, playful and exuberant frontman who millions of fans fell in love with in the first place.
It couldn't have come at a better time.
Although there was no official proclamation, it certainly felt like it was Green Day Day in Austin, Texas on Friday.
Besides the concert -- Green Day's first major performance since Armstrong's rehab stint -- the day also featured screenings of both new Green Day documentaries as part of the SXSW film festival.
The first was "Broadway Idiot," a highly polished documentary that recounts the path of the band's "American Idol" musical from its conception to its debut at Berkeley Repertory Theatre to, eventually, a hit run on Broadway. The second was "Cuatro!," which documents the recording of Green Day's three new albums -- "Uno!," "Dos!" and "Tre!," all of which were released in a span of just over two months in the fall. Both films were extremely well received by audiences.
Yet, fans reserved even greater enthusiasm for the nightcap, roaring at the mere sight of Green Day taking the stage at the lovely Austin City Limits Live! venue and only growing more rambunctious as the evening progressed.
And Armstrong still had them all beat.
He was a regular whirlwind, basically from start to finish. Yet, his energy was focused and everything he did benefitted the show. This was definitely not the Armstrong who caused such a scene in September at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas. This version resembled the Armstrong who helped push Green Day to new heights after the release of "American Idiot" in 2004.
The rest of the band was right there with him. Bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool combined to once again form one of the best rhythm sections that punk-pop has ever known. And the band's fourth member, guitarist Jason White, provided plenty of truly heroic leads.
Yes, Green Day has a fourth member. According to what was heard in "Cuatro!," as well as what was listed in the film's credits, the longtime sideman is now officially a member of the band. And, yes, it will take some time (probably years, actually) before referring to Green Day as anything other than a trio sounds right. (Old habits die hard, you know)
The set list was a delightful mix of longtime favorites and new tunes. As expected, it was a treat to hear the band run through such old hits as "Welcome to Paradise," "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Know Your Enemy" and "Jesus of Suburbia." Yet, it was nearly as fun to hear the quartet perform selections from the three new albums.
And it was really a blast to watch Green Day get under the covers — performing a number of snippets from such well-known hits as Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child o' Mine," AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" and the Beatles' "Hey Jude."
In all, the concert served as evidence that Green Day is ready, willing and able to leave all its troubles behind and just focus on rocking crowds. So, local fans should definitely be excited about seeing the band perform at its big homecoming show on April 16 at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley.
