Internet Providers Now "Tracking" Torrents Etc

Looks like a new law is allowing the ISP's to watch for illegal downloads such as concert torrents. Initially only warnings but once they have the data I suppose all bets are off. My hunch is the internet companies are more concerned with high band width users than bootlegs etc but guess we all need to think about the ramifications of all this....

they are only concerned with bandwidth, but won't hesitate to turnover your info if subpoenaed.
I have said it before, i will say it again, use a VPN (virtual private network) worth every fucking penny. Mine is a server in NYC, and the owners are in Russia. Sure, they can be subpoenaed, but it's a big hassle, and not worth the the trouble… It's also an added layer of security you can use for your wifi devices on netowrks you're using other than your own…

I saw this in the news the other evening...I meant to ask one of my professors about this and what she would recommend.
I have her for 2 information security classes this semester.
We are just hacking away at each others virtual machines and eves dropping and doing all sorts of shenanigans...

I have to be able to ask her in a way that does not incriminate me or the school...
as per a signed statement that the hacking tools I learn to use will not be used w/ malicious intent, etc...

I figure if i just want a VPN I can just ask for an opinion either way, right?

Anyway...gonna restrict my DL until after spring break when i can talk to her about it better...
