18 shows probably means 8-12 cities.  If they're playing something like the higher end of that estimate, I'd imagine there must be a decent chance of it.

Cant imagine too many cities getting more than two shows, though. Surely LA or Chicago would be the only possible candidates. Vegas at a push.

Christ, no. The days of me going to the US to see the Stones are long gone. Far too expensive and too much of a risk of them cancelling. Plus, I've too many other plans and financial commitments for the summer anyway. I'll be lucky if I get to one of the Hyde park shows. The first one (rumoured for July 6 or 7) is a possibility, the one rumoured for the following weekend isn't practical.

" It isn’t the first time, of course, The Rolling Stones have switched up promoters between tours, regardless of history.  Michael Cohl worked closely with the band for years after winning a promotion deal that the late Bill Graham expected to continue.................... it’s not known if Cohl was in the running for the 50th anniversary shows '  "

Michael Cohl burned his bridges on the night of October 11th , 2006 . Brrrrrrrrr..........

http://www.iorr.org/tour05/chicago4.htm

" I may not have the words completely accurate, but early in the show at Soldier Field Mick said, “Thank you for coming out on what’s a horrible fucking freezing night. You guys are my heroes”. As I layered on 3 coats and long underwear (the only other show I wore long underwear at was Ames, Iowa in 1989), I wondered for a millisecond if it was all worth it. When Keith kicked into You Got Me Rocking, it was clear it would be all worth it. This would be a different night, with cold temperatures keeping any marginal fans at home. It was around 36 degrees at show time, with wind chill in the low 20s. You Got Me Rocking was a great choice for an opener. Why do we read protests any time this song is played? It is streamlined rock and roll at its most efficient, has great audience participation, and a brilliant Keith solo. Because it is not from the lates 60s or early 70s it is automatically trite or cliché? Just because we were blessed with this song in 1994 does not diminish it. The clarion chords to start are unmistakable, and seemed to get this die-hard cold weather audience pumped up like no other song could.
While the crowd was small (Soldier Field was little more than half full, with large tongue banners pulled over empty seats that could have been sold), the cold weather was a great excuse for low attendance. The fact is, it could have been 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the place would not have been much more full. This prior weekend FoxNews Chicago had reported ticket sales were unusually slow, with only 26,000 seats (capacity for the concert around 55,000?) sold as of 4 days before the show. Maybe that’s what happens as this was the band’s 9th show in Chicago in a little over 4 years, the housing market is down and that home equity spending money has dried up, and they are still asking $450 for the best seats. But the light attendance and crap weather did not matter: everyone there was completely prepared, heavy coats and a mind set as if they were going to a football game (American football, played in cold weather and extreme climatic conditions). While the crowd was smaller than any ever at Soldier Field, through many shows, expensive tickets, and nightmare weather, this crowd was boiled down to hard core Stones fans and those there were ready to rock. The Rolling Stones seemed to understand this completely, realizing what a unique night this was, and pushed extra hard to make this show excellent. The wind off Lake Michigan was harsh, making special stage effects unneeded. When Mick stepped to the edge of the stage or on the side walkways, his long coat was taken by the wind to dramatic effect. Mick did the whole show in fedora, it was that cold. Early it was fun to see Keith struggle with his cap, the strong wind about to blow it off, until Keith took charge and pulled the skull symboled cap down hard so it was just above his eyes. Ronnie had a big scarf but seemed to be freezing still. Someone should recommend a hat for him: they help more than anything else in cold temperatures. This was my 109th Stones show, and the cold temps and ½ full Soldier Field made it absolutely unique. It was more lovable than any I have seen in 2006, except for the Radio City Music Hall show.  "

Rolling Stones Settle on Promoter for Arena Tour
Sources: Band will make between $4 million and $5 million per show; top tickets to cost $500-$600

March 21, 2013 10:51 AM ET

The Rolling Stones have chosen AEG Live to promote their upcoming North American tour, according to concert-business sources privy to the tour negotiations, after the concert giant made what one source calls "a real crazy offer" to outbid a coalition of promoters including Australia's Paul Dainty and veteran independent companies in U.S. cities. The Stones will receive between $4 million and $5 million per show, which likely means top tickets will cost $500 to $650 – slightly less than what the band charged for the priciest seats at its shows in Brooklyn, Newark and London in late 2012.

As previously reported, the tour will include 18 North American arena dates. A source close to the band told Rolling Stone the tour is set to kick off on May 2nd. The Stones will also play London's Hyde Park in July, and may add European festival dates. It's possible the Stones might expand the tour even further later in 2013, but the band has no concrete plans. "Are the Stones going to do anything after this? I doubt it," says one source. Adds another source, "Look, anything's possible. But it's Mick and Keith's show, so we don't know."

The Stones were planning to go with Dainty's group until Tuesday morning, when a lawyer for the Stones called AEG executives and granted the bid before lunch. AEG tentatively plans to announce the tour in early April. Sources for the Los Angeles promoter – the world's second-biggest after Live Nation – declined to comment.

The Stones, who haven't done a full tour since 2006-2007, grossed $18.3 million with their four North American shows last year, according to Pollstar. After the 2012 run, which included guests from Lady Gaga to the Black Keys, the band seemed energized. "This thing wasn't enough," Keith Richards told Rolling Stone in early January. "It would be dopey to bring things up to this level and say, 'Well, that's that, 50 years, bye-bye.' Really, all you're going to have to do is wait for an announcement."

I don't think they'll play NYC. Not unless they do Brooklyn again. MSG is being renovated and wont be available for a few months, apparently.

(Edit - someone read this post and pointed out to me that MSG is still being used in the next couple of months for NBA and NHL games, so scratch that remark - I guess its possible after all!) Think there'll be more shows in the west than in the east this time.

In which case, so much for bv's claim that they'd range from $400 - $50.

If there are tickets in the latter price range, there'll probably be about two of them per venue. It just looks a 'generous' range at face value until you see how many are in each category.

18 shows is all they've signed for. Unless they come back after mid-July, the American leg would need to be over by the weekend of June 21-23 as they'll be at Glastonbury at the end of June and in London the first couple of weeks in July.

No back to back nights, remember - and the number of days off between cities has been increasing with each year.  To play 18 shows by around June 23, they'd need to start by no later than the second week in May.

I will bend over and go regardless.....I'm 60 years old now who knows the future. I would enjoy another Stones show (specially with the vigor they showed in NYC in 2012) more than most things I could do with $500.........but everyone has their own thresholds..just have to get a wheelchair for Some Guy so we can roll up front!

May-June.

That's a list of 18 concerts Dan is speculating they could play  - not the dates they're likely to take place.

The Stones don't do two nights in a row - let alone 18! Not since about 1964 anyway!
