I recently got banned from IORR for making the same point.

Whether you happen to agree or not, it is a legit point of view to perceive this 50 and Counting version of Keith Richards as a disgrace and desecration of the Stones and their legacy.

I think he's so bad now that he's actually turned me off, temporarily probably, to the bulk of their music, despite being a rabid fan since 1964.

If this recent activity was just a victory lap, a reasonably priced goodbye to the greatest ever, of course I would join in on the celebration. But pretending like they're still relevant or
even vaguely exciting any longer is too much to stomach, for me anyway. I can't wait til they call it quits, and their legend starts to grow again, instead of being frittered away for
no good reason whatsover.

Ultimately of course, this kind of stain comes out in the wash. Latter day James Brown or Mike Love's Beach Boys are eventually forgotten, like a bad piece of fish,
and only the good things are remembered.

Crossfire Hurricane got it right. What once were revolutionary artists and fans, became mainstream artists and fans, and now are totally reactionary artists and fans.

Agents of cultural constipation, that need to be flushed.

Which is, incidentally, why Jagger shaped the stage like a toilet bowl. Full of shidoobies!

Rolling Stones 2013 U.S. Tour: AEG In, Paul Dainty/Virgin Out, Sources Say

A deal for Australian promoter Paul Dainty and Virgin Music to promote a North American Rolling Stones tour of a confirmed 18 shows has fallen through, and AEG Live has stepped in to promote the shows, sources tell Billboard. The Stones will still roll and an announcement for the tour -- which still has not been officially confirmed -- will likely come before the end of the month.

Billboard.biz said in a March 7 article that Dainty/Virgin would promote the run, and sources confirm that a deal was in place. But now sources say the promoters couldn’t come to financial terms with the band on a guarantee believed to be in the $80 million range. According to sources, AEG got the deal done today, even after AEG CEO Tim Leiweke stepped down on Thursday.

Dainty and Virgin ponied up an estimated $25 million to present the band’s 50th Anniversary shows late last year at the O2 in London, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Those five shows grossed a total of $38,687,010 and sold 73,702 tickets. While that would seem like a strong profit, margins on Stones shows are especially tight, given the huge production values and other show costs; a pay-per-view live broadcast from the Newark show that was part of the deal did less-than-spectacular business, according to sources.

The deal for Dainty to promote this year’s shows was agreed to in principle, and the promoter tried to bring together a wide range of other promoters for financial support, but ultimately Dainty couldn’t deliver a deal that was palatable to the band.

Reps for AEG and Dainty could not be reached for comment at press time

Just my 2 cents from a guy trying to put 2 and 2 together...
Assuming the AEG story is True...
If they gave the Stones what they want as a guarantee, will that mean they will have to raise the ticket prices?
I'm sure AEG takes into account a % of tickets that won't be sold.

...but they own a number of venues (like Staples) so maybe that will cut the actual cost of promoting the show, while also reducing their profit on their tax return which makes it a win situation for everyone except the government (US tax law loophole).

So this may mean some shows might have to be shifted to AEG venues if they aren't booked already.

I wonder what kind of delay this may create for the tour?
Who stole this one? (Seriously) Are you fucking serious? Perverted Mick You rock! War horses couldn't drag me away

On the other hand that pretty much makes the BSC concert(s) at Hyde Park promoted by AEG a lock in, the "sweetener" in the deal no doubt...

If they are pricing at 2012 levels, I'll be interested to see how sales go, considering that a lot of big acts are touring at a fraction of the cost.

Except for die hards, I could see concert goers voting with their wallets. They could probably do a couple of Bruce shows, Neil Young,Dylan and the Who for the price of 1 Stones ticket. Just a thought...................... Tarps may be required Roll Eyes

I dont see the big shock, to be honest. Tour announcement delayed slightly while Stones wangle highest bid they can get from promoter.

Thats $4.5 million per show they'll be getting. On the BTB tour it worked out at a gross of just over $4 million per show - but most of those gigs were in stadiums, which brings down the average ticket price.

So if theyre selling 15,000 seats at a concert, that means an average ticket price of $300 just to allow the promoter to break even. So expect them to be considerably higher.

'Its Only Rock 'n' Roll', apparently. And it shall be played and sung along to without a shred of irony.

In which case, they'll do what theyve done several times in the past when sales have been slow to the point of embarrassment. They'll cancel in dubious circumstances.

Cant see it happening, though. It'll be a rerun of the 2012 shows. Overpriced tickets snapped up in minutes by wannabee scalpers who misjudge the market and get left crapping their pants as e-bay, stubhub and broker sites are absolutely flooded with them.  Promoters and band quite happy to have the secondary market unregulated as it guarantees them the payday they wanted and diverts the task of filling the arena on to the chancers who snapped up the tickets at the expense of the real fans - the end result being a 'who blinks first' game between both parties.

The public won't learn from their stupidity and gullibility last time and will be stitched up by this ruse yet again .

Tight margins on Stones shows?.......whose kidding whom..this is going to be interesting to see sales numbers....if the break even is $300 that will make nosebleeds at least $150-$200 and floors and decent side seats closer to $400.

What's with all the Stones hatred??!!

You think these guys are going to play like it's 1972?? Fuck no.

Time takes it's toll on all of us.

After the ABB tour, I was leery of ever being able to justify forking out big $$ to see them live again.

But what I saw on December 15th on the PPV made me damn proud that they could still put on a show worthy of my hard earned money. I watched the concert with 6 people who had never seen the band live before and weren't exactly Stones fanatics. They loved it. They thought Jagger was amazing and the overall show was superb.

Stay the fuck home if you think it's such a travesty. Another chance for me to score a better ticket.  The real Rolling Stones tongue

The only opinion I give a fuck about is my own. I enjoyed that PPV show like crazy.

If people don't like the band it's time to check out. I never understood spending time on a board where you aren't a fanatic for the topic - in our case the Stones.

To see what's in our future check out a Zeppelin or Beatles board where the past is the only topic.

There was no evidence, that I could tell, of a firesale for the NY/NJ shows last year. I know there were exceptions, but generally speaking they filled the house for no less than the face value of the tickets.
