Most people could give a shit about lyrics. Stray Cat Blues is wrong on many levels, but fans don't care either. Hell, Bill Wyman got a pass from fandom after fucking a 13 year old.

Heroin came out in '67, stray cat came out in '69, Lou reed wrote songs about the seedy side of New York City, the hookers, drag queens, Andy warhol's whole scene which included drug addicts, The Velvet Underground did all this first.

Written by Lou Reed in 1964, the song is one of the band's most celebrated compositions, overtly depicting heroin use and abuse. Critic Mark Deming writes, "While 'Heroin' hardly endorses drug use, it doesn't clearly condemn it, either, which made it all the more troubling in the eyes of many listeners".[1]
